Hey everyone,
McLaren F1 is a beast car.
Question for those who race it on Bathurst... You have to brake earlier because of middle-of-nineties brakes, but how do you cope with rammers and late breakers ?

SO M-M and race hard or save fuel and use one set of Hards?
Work on qualy time because Bathurst is a tough one for overtaking, then m-m and try to save tires a bit because they can be dead at the 5th and 9th lap and that's the best time for overtaking if you have the tires to pull it of

With a tight track and lack of overtaking space I bet car choice is less of a factor. I haven't driven Gr. 3 in a while so I have to see what I'm comfortable with. The Aston is always good so I'll start there.

Studying worked.... last night i beat my previous best around the ring by like 5 seconds on my second lap, followed by 5 or 6 laps of terrible driving. I was to tired and really sloppy once i tried to beat that time. No time to really try this morning but hopeing for a short day at work today, so well see what i can do this evening.

Saving fuel doesn’t seem to do much good, the leaders are so far ahead by the end that it ends up being a waste of time unless you’re really good/fast while saving fuel. I was pitting on the end of lap 5, that’s as far as a tank goes in the Lancer I was using. :)

I'm still trying to crawl myself out of SR B but I got lucky on Race B yesterday. One idiot lost position and then lost his mind and decided to cut right across the Hocheichen esses at the start of the course trying to ram the car that passed him. Thankfully he missed ricocheting off of the wall and into the grass. From there a penalty carrying guy behind me kept drafting into my rear and then braking to the outside to dodge me as if I was brake checking him. He did this three times until he finally caught too much grass and spun off of the course.

Ultimately I scraped a wall and drove through some sand but I got away with 7th place and promoted back to SR A.

The Evo is fun to drive but it's traction pulls too hard to the inside when the weight evens out on the exit. That moment when the front wheels finally make full contact is pretty dramatic and would throw me off a few times.

By the way: is there a prefered way to negotiate the dipper at Mount Panorama? No matter what car I use or which line I take, the back of the car gets light and the car yaws to the left.
Throttle smash ... I can do it with the Atenza and the Supra GR .... Takes some getting used to but, getting it right will allow the car to slide and follow the cambers, whilst maintaining the momentum, I've learnt.

I joined two races with my cats primary account.

Nordschleife, No Q, started 7th, finished 7th, Blue S up to 99 (I fell back to 12th over the lap, but passed three and the other two went off the track).

Then Bathurst: I decided to use the R8 on hards with a fuel mapping of thee, starting from 11th. It seemed to work since at around half of lap 4 I still had a half filled tank. But then it emptied quickly and at the end of lap 7 I got a „0.6 laps left“ warning. I was 5th at that time and after getting fuel for the remaining two laps (no tires) I was at 10th. I got passed by two McLaren of which the latter one ran out of fuel in Lap 9 at Murray‘s Corner. So I gained one position and finished as I started: 11th.

Driver agressiveness makes it look like those who used to push through the Field in the Beetle now use the McLaren. I don‘t want to insult anyone but a certain „Let me throuh, I‘M FASTER LET ME THROUGHBANGBANG“-attitude seems to be a common character trait of these drivers (at least in the EMEA-region).

Since my tires were still very good at the end but fuel was very tight, I wonder if I could get along with my fuel with a mapping of 4 or even a different car. Maybe I‘ll try tomorrow.

Oh, and I finally manage to get through the dipper. Trailbraking and gradually shifting down starting at the top of the hill did the trick. And not being too slow a that corner is important, too: If you are, the car will yaw to the left. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I hadn't planned on racing this week. It's been a great two weeks for getting some mission challenge and track experience stuff out of the way. In fact the races were so bad lately I figured PD may be trying to help Codemasters; the week Dirt Rally 2.0 is launched PD manage to give everyone here a reason to find something else to play. However I happened to take a look at Bathurst and did 3 or 4 quick laps. Nothing special I set a quali of 2.07 dead. EMEA top 10 were all in the 2 min flat kind of region if I did not read wrong. However when I look back at Kudosprime from running at Bathurst in the dark a couple of weeks back my time was 2.05 and the top 10 were 1.58's. Am I reading things wrong or are people running 2 secs slower there this time round?

I think we were allowed Soft tires in the dark at Bathurst maybe? But I can’t remember for sure, I did a 2:02.6 that ended up in 500 and something’th place in NA so I’m thinking it was on softs.

That would make sense. I expect to be behind most drivers but I was afraid to race if I qualified so bad I was 2 seconds behind myself.

I’m 2 seconds behind my time from that week as well so I’d say you’re all good man. 👍

I've seen this a couple times from different people.
I had no problem with its braking. I was racing against an RC F and a fast Jag. I brake as I normally do. No brake bias. I didn't get rammed and I was in a pack at the back. Used RH and RM compounds.
I race all my cars with stock settings(DS4 user) and I'm an average DR B player.

@Pigems: Nice, now all I have to do is get used to the McLaren so I can stop doing things like this:

Bathurst:

Dragon Trail:

It is absolutely without doubt the best car to do a 360 in.:D:lol:

Hey, at least you’re not doing things like this. :D

Edit: Got my Mountain time down to 3.5 in the McLaren, which is only .9 behind my time from the last time we had this combo at night on Softs in the GTR. I can’t get over how hard you can push this car without it spinning out, and I’m still 3 seconds behind the leaders.

There isn't much you can do to control the punters on Bathurst using the F1, it's a slow car going up and down the mountain and some people aren't aware of the **** brakes on the F1. I got punted a few times last night by impatient people ridding my bumper on the hill while braking; I sometimes let them pass me if I notice their pace is superior to mine, just to avoid both of us losing time. Most of the people I've raced, however, are pretty good at keeping a safe braking distance during the race (in DR A and SR S lobbies).

HElp with bratwurst race c qualy!!! Have looked my replays and top replays, I lost time at the top of the mountain, is it me being pussy, or is there something that i just cant fiqure out??? 2:02.596 is best for now.... Tips, suggestions, abything?? :D

Been trying to race but getting screwed every time. Punted like 5 in a row now split between race A& B. Probably going to be dropped down to DR-C next race. Super frustrating because it's out of my control. :irked:

I have time for a couple races before my kids get off school, and the Nord is surprisingly clean today (so far)

I got two wins, first race a triple star win, second just the clean race star. The Argentinian on pole made a mistake, got 0.5 sec shortcut penalty for it, then later made another mistake where I passed him. He caught up for the straight and passed me yet lost due to his penalty.

Next race seemed to go the same. This time he had a 0.8 sec penalty, kept his head cool and drove clean again. I was right on his tail at the final section, a bit too close and tapped his bumper at the right before the end. He did not go off, I didn't pass, yet also didn't feel like I deserved to take the win from his penalty. So I waited for him to finish first. Clean driving needs to be rewarded, besides half a year ago I would have gotten a 10 sec penalty for that. Thanks to his draft I shaved 3 seconds of my best race time, from 8:41 to 8:38 while starting from 2nd and waiting at the finish, so I was more then happy with that :)

Fourth race I started 3rd. First messed up so 2nd took his place. The pole sitter slowed me down yet kept in control enough to keep me behind. First got away, yet I took second due to his penalty. He was swerving on the straight to stop me from passing, pretty pointless when you have a penalty....

Last race, starting second, rematch with the one that got away. Well he got away again. I'm always slow in the first part, lost the draft straight away. I finished in 8:40, not bad for me, he finished in 8:33. 3rd was 11 sec behind, it was one of those watch the gaps grow race. I'm glad I was in the front anyway, 7x red S, a red A, a neutral, tons of red dots and a lot of bickering afterwards.

So close to DR.A 29,654, one more (without getting punted) should do it.

So apparently you can still lose DR even if you win a race.
Interesting game design

Do you have an example for that? I've heard this before yet never seen it myself. Even a race where I was A/S and the whole room D/S (weird matchmaking fluke) I still gained a couple points, 1 point per driver that finished.

Were you back in the lobby after the race? If you leave (close app) or get disconnected before getting back in the lobby it counts as a loss. I won a race like that where I finished 2nd, first got disconnected during the countdown and I was promoted to first. It still showed him with a time split at -10 seconds. In the lobby he showed as DNF.

Also note that if you were disconnected from a precious race that the results of that loss do not get updated until that race is finished. So if you start another race in between the results mix up.

Looks smooth and the line is solid 👍
You can gain a bit of time with a wider line into T4, and using a bit more curb in general, but I'd say you've got a good grasp of the track.
I also suggest working on carrying a little more speed through the uphill corners to keep that momentum up. Try to use a little less brake and a little more lift-off to turn in and wide lines to get on the power as early as possible.
Good luck

It has to be a disconnect... Even in lobbies where the DR gap is massive, I've never seen it happen. Maybe there were network issues and not everyone was visible on the track/results?

I wasn’t disconnected from any race at all.
It’s weird I know.

What does A+ stand for.... Not race craft. The race I did just now we're coming towards the straight. I'm in 4th, close behind 3rd with an A+ driver behind me sticking his nose in whenever he can draft a bit closer. Instead of waiting for the straight to pass me and possibly the car in front of me as well, he decides to stick a nose in in the double corner before the straight slowing us both down, letting 3rd get ahead... He still can't pass me as the draft to 3rd is still strong enough to stay ahead of him, just not enough to make a pass for either of us. Had he waited, I would have draft passed 3rd at the start of the straight and he would have draft passed me before the end of the straight. Racing is more than simply putting your nose in.

A+ simply stands for, can qualify well. So many A+ fall apart when they're not out front.

Ugh disconnected. Weird one, all the cars suddenly crashed and stopped. The game let me drive on for 20 seconds, then disconnected. bye bye DR.
