You would not be the first one to do that :scared:. My trick on my first ever race C at Bathurst quite some time ago was getting caught out by how slow you need to go to negotiate the chicane at pit entry. I hit the wall and was re-spawned on the start/finish strait. I ran our of fuel just before Hell Corner :rolleyes:. A lap of the Mountain at 80kph is.... exhilarating :crazy:.

Did that twice in the same race during an FIA last year :banghead:. Re-spawned on the start line after spinning on the grass, went round again and purposely slowed right down so not to do it again...spun on the grass again and took another 10 seconds to crawl into the pits. 6th to last.

A few months ago I moved into a new home only to then realize I had limited options for internet. I was forced to use satellite internet which as you probably know will not work for online gaming. So for the past several months I have just been practicing the daily races running laps to try and stay "up to speed" as I wait for another option for internet here. The other day I used my Verizon hotspot to connect and noticed that the connection was decent but saw my NAT setting was 3 and PS4 displayed a message saying I may not be able to connect etc. I tried "testing" my connection on the tab in the Sport mode but it said it was not available to try again later. I didn't try to connect to a lobby or enter a daily race but wondered if anyone else may be using this or if I'm wasting my time trying.

Can't say I understand how the match making works. My new (2nd) account (started it this week) is now a DR B and SR S. I've won 7 races this week too. But tonight, at the Nordschliefe, I got 3rd, 4th, 2nd, 3rd; 2nd; 2nd, 4th, 3rd and 9th ( taken out by a guy at Aremberg who was behind me and 1.2 seconds behind before I turned - he apologised after, he must have lost it and ran the grass, into me).

The thing was - I am being beaten by some much faster drivers. Like these two - from Japan, ezupi, qualifying time 08:03.511, he's now back to A+, he was there most races, and in four races, TRL_holl01 - an Australian - qualifying 07:59.304, Star player, ok he's dropped from his low 60,000s, but jeez ... he runs a race time of 8.31.3, or 8:31.4 (his worst time poor guy). They were both there in front of me at the same time in a couple of races. I've gotta say, its not easy for me to win a race at the moment, with a humble 21,000 DR, a B driver, against pretty quick drivers. Thank God I am not using my main account ... I don't get the match making ...

By the Mountain, I feel nothing. For in my own beemer, every nut and bolt is broken....Yeh mon. It be another day on de Mountain wid de 'erb and all of @Pigems dubs :p. This week, aside from the ritual sacrifice of a Mustang to the Mountain spirits for the first race, I've been going with cars that i haven't race much, if at all online. Today's victim was the M6. Couldn't beat my Supra time, but I felt better in my own skin with the M6. No pesky DR/Bs to push me around. P7/19 on a mix of DR/Cs and Ds. I could see the guy behind me was one of the people who pushed past me yesterday.

Auto drive cuts out just as I was at the exit to Murray's and the dash for crash into Hell Corner begins (cue the opening music for the Mortal Kombat movie...). A couple of people stuff it and I gain a couple of places. By the end of lap 2 I was in P4. Lap 3 I bounce off the kerb entering the chase and end up mowing the lawn. That drops me back 4 places. With dirty tyres I get sideways at Murray's and loose another couple of places :scared:.

I manage to scrub the tyres clean and the chase is on. Somewhere along the way I picked up a 2s SR down penalty for being rear ended at Skyline or the dipper, or somewhere around there :crazy:. I got the fuel light warning at the end of lap 4 so pit at the end of lap 5 in P7. The hards were still performing well. I changed to mediums anyway, because as we have previously established, my driving is a bit shyte and I don't trust myself to be able to make them last the whole race. I came out of the pits P8 and the guy in front was one of the people that pushed me off yesterday. He had fresh tyres too, but he became a road block on numerous occasions. I harassed him for the rest of the race and had to back off every time we came to The Cutting, the Esses, Forest elbow, The Chase, Murray's Corner and Hell Corner. He was such a road block that I just couldn't get a run on him to get past :crazy:. I had to keep backing off, but a few times even that didn't prevent a collision :banghead:. After 3 laps of this I finally managed to get beside him up the inside on Mountain Strait headed to Griffins Bend on the final lap :eek:. He reluctantly conceded after he realised I was not going to back down :mad:. By the time I got to Skyline I had a 5s gap. I cruised past someone who had spun at The Chase and finished P6 :D.

The guy I did laps with was driving a Ford GT. The M6 had no issues keeping up. Even with my crappy driving, tyres and fuel consumption seemed to be good. SR went up 2, and I got all the DR I lost yesterday back... with a few hundred more :dopey:. Another day above DR 1 :).

I can't recall any people instantly leaving the lobby in any of my games since the update. Did it kick you back to the Sports Mode menu with a disconnect message or without? I used to have the same problem and went into a habit of restarting the game after every race but since the recent update, I haven't had to.

It said network error, and booted me from joining the race. My connection is fine, so it was something on their end. It only happened once out of about 10 races.

My connection is very finicky (gotta love WiFi) so I'm consistently checking it and I've found the connection test button only works when you enter for a qualification lap and exit.

Since the Green Hell is my favorite track I raced a lot this week, so here comes the two most exciting races so far in a video!
In the first race I've put enough pressure on my opponent to make him do a mistake, from then I just had to bring it home.
In the second run I was under pressure and got a penalty after going a bit wide, things have mixed up from then...

Matchmaking starts with SR. First the system tries to fill a room at 90 to 99 SR. Most fast guys are usually at 99 SR, it's cleaner at the front and they often have uncontested races, easy to build/keep SR. To fill the room any DR will do, so it depends on how many entries there are for that race in the 90-99 range how far down it will go in DR. If there still aren't enough people to fill the room, then the system will start increasing the SR range for matching. It will go as far as A+/S to D/E in the same room.

When there are more entries than slots in the 90-99 SR room, then it will split the room based on DR. The lower part will get put in the next room, which can be increased with 80-89 SR or lower to fill that room. Which means that any fast drivers in the 80-89 range will be at the top of that room. Hence I call it the sweet spot for fast drivers and also why it's easy to regain SR when a fast player drops from 99 into the 80-89 range. They'll be matched with the slower half of the 90-99 room.

This goes on down the SR ladder until all entries are put in a room.

Qualifying time only determines the starting order once the rooms are made. Those that don't qualify start in order of their DR after all the qualifiers.


The system can cause some weird flukes. For example when there are plenty D/S players in the 90-99 range they will get moved to the next room. If that room is not quite full yet, the highest DR from the 80-89 range will be added first, which can be an A+/S. So you can get a room with A+/S on pole and the rest D/S.

haha typical spanish driver in the first race... you're lucky he did not go as dirty on you as on the other drivers (from what I see in the mirror...).

As for the second race, the belgian driver pushes you from the inside in one of the last turns, it's weird he did not get a penalty, I have had the same situation two days ago, and the guy got 1.2 s penalty.

Also, you're way faster than me overall, but at 16:25 shouldnt you be in 2nd gear ? I have the feeling I have a better grip, and faster exit speed, I normally shift just at the exit.
 
Any predictions for next weeks races? How about:

Race A: Tsukuba - Mazda Eunos Roadster One Make
Race B: Tokyo Expressway South Inner Loop - Group 4
Race C: Autopolis - Group 3

Full on Japanese week.

I'm basing this prediction on nothing but wild speculation and the fact I can see PD doing it :lol:

I love driving around Bathurst and its has been very good to me this week. 12 races, including 5 wins and 9000 Dr points gained which now puts me into A+. I have stayed away from the McLaren F1 and used my goto the AMG '16. Usual story faster across the mountain but lose out on the straights. Fuel saving has helped me out alot so far.

This. i qualify in the Mclaren but race the AMG, it's more steady on it's feet with wearing rubber.

Had fun this week at Bathurst despite the reset,picked up 4 wins, two seconds, a third and a Reset in 8 races.

So last night my second race i qualify 6th, guys in 1st through 3rd are a solid second quicker than me in qualifying. I am aware from a previous race that the white mcLaren in front of me is a rammer with zero racecraft. Long story short, i make a key decision on lap 1 to let two guys fight and not stick my nose in, they take each other out, two other guys fall off the road and i hang on for grim death for the win despite some pretty poor lap times, i just couldn't get in a groove.

The last lap and a half i knew i was in bug trouble, the guy behind was flat out quicker than me, the mclaren is a beast in a straight line and he had fresher tyres. So i decided to go full blown defensive, no swerving or blocking just a defensive line (he was carrying a 5 second penalty too so i could have let him pass TBH).

The black Mclaren should have won the race, a) he pushed his nose in at reid park (just insane) on lap one and caused a collision and then when he caught me at the beginning of lap 8, instead of lining me up at forrest's elbow he tried to barge past across the top and ruined his momentum. With fresher tyres and the speed of the mclaren he'd have EASILY passed me, easily, on both laps 8 an 9. but he had zero racecraft.


 
No, the spannish driver wasn't dirty, he was just out of focus, the other drivers from the second race are different story. The dutch went crazy, touched me and went into the barrier and because of the touch the system felt that I punted him, the belgian driver didn't get a penalty because I stayed on the track. If I were to go off by purpose after the touch he would have get the 3 second probably, but thats not my style :D

It worth to stay in 3rd gear because the more you change gears, the slower you are. It takes too much time to change gears in road cars. And the EVO has a turbo, it has a big torque from low RPM
 
I'm really loving Race B this week. Despite being DRB, I've been able to dial in a few corners almost matching the trajectory of the top regional time. (Tricks like that crazy flat out take on Flugplatz where you put two wheels in the grass and then cut hard right using the access road for traction to make the turn.) So it's been fun making corners and blowing past people. Even at DR A other drivers only seem to be taking 1/4th of the major turns on an optimal line so it's been fun to see what corners they have dialed versus my own. It's really hammering home how under the limit I'm actually driving.

And I did get it! I qualified 2nd once again in the 14:30 race behind an RC F, 3 tenths down on qualifying time. The first two laps saw me make four passing moves. Two of them were around the outside of turn 2 and ended with me going too wide, hitting the wall and losing a bit of time. Still very clean though, there was no contact whatsoever. I caught back up on both occasions because the Supra is really strong through the mountain section (and such a blast :D) and moved past on the Conrod Straight. I outbraked myself on lap 1 and the RC F went back into the lead; on lap 2 I finally made it stick. I proceeded to build up a 4.2s lead by the pitstop phase as the Lexus battled a black Supra for 2nd. The Lexus went for the undercut on lap 4. I pitted on lap 5 with 14L left, the Supra who had taken over second place had 20L and gained over a second on me in the pits. The Lexus' undercut worked (he'd probably saved quite a bit of fuel), but he binned it at Hell Corner while I came out of the pits just behind him and fell behind. The last person to stay out pitted at the end of lap 6 and I inherited the lead again, while the Spaniard in the black Supra assumed 2nd place. The gap fluctuated at 2.7-3.3 seconds until lap 9, when I decided to drive more cautiously to avoid messing up. I didn't bottle it and captured the W:cheers:

And look at this competition! This win gave me more than 1500 DR, boosting me to a new peak of 44786!

Also, this screenshot illustrates something I really like about Gr.3. If the track is not R8-dominated like Maggiore or Suzuka, car diversity exists even as you get closer to the top. It's more immersive when there are different cars on the grid :)

The McLaren is a very good car without a doubt, but it's not the OP beast I (and many others) thought it would be on Tuesday. It's not the most common car in races, even though it holds the top 2 spots on the EMEA leaderboard right now. In fact, this results screen contains more RC Fs than it does F1 GTRs and there's even a Peugeot VGT in the mix.
 
Did one race after work last night and it was not a story i want to tell. It was ugly, and i was sloppy so i just did some laps after that. I am still trying to get better at the ring overall so mileage is key.

This morning was the first morning this week i was really able to focus and attack the ring with a fresh mind and body, and coffee. Put down an 8.10.324 with an optimal of 8.08.558, which i will no doubt be chasing all weekend if the races aren't clean enough for my liking.

Edit: another lap or two before work... i just shaved it down to 8.10.122 on my first lap and was over a second ahead 3/4 of the way through lap two before a stupid mistake. Oh well, to the brewery i go....

I went out this morning and embarrassed myself. :crazy:

So bad I quit just to end the misery. At one point I was doing donuts like an idiot trying to go straight. A nice driver was doing his best to avoid me, let me by twice, stayed away but I just kept screwing up. Apologies to that driver.

I have a tough time recovering after I make a mistake. Always lose my focus. I need find a way to work on that.

I did a bunch of Nord races around noon, all bumped off at least once during the race. Sure, I get back to top 5 or podium each time, yet what's the point of starting up front if I just have to drive from the back anyway :banghead:

Also plenty of unfair penalties, for example

I can't pass any cleaner than that, 3 sec penalty and red S.

Oh well, love the track, hate the system and the dirty players. DR is going back down, yet it's meaningless anyway with a broken penalty system and matchmaking that almost never has enough entries to consider. At least no boring driving out in front races, that's something.

For race B I seem to have leased the 7th on the grid. I usually gain or lose one or two positions. I get more confident in the car but not faster. For Q I am stuck with an 8:31. I have absolutely no idea how others get :20‘s or even :10‘s

For the single C race I tried what would happen when starting on hards with a meager setting of 4. Turns out with the Porsche you reach the end of lap 8. Considering the fact that 3 got me to the end of lap 7 that means setting to 5 could enable me to run a no-stopper. The hard tires are generally very conserving and (at least with my style of driving) are rarely worn, only a very narrow red bar on them. Started 9th and finished 9th (was on 7th before the pitstop).

I really, really, really hope PD will implement Penalty Zones for Race C/races wirh tire-wear and fuel-consumption. You get bumped out of the way by drivers showing off their 6s or even more penalty banners. It‘s ridiculous and I am generally a fan of instant chastise.
 
Answer to my own question about F1 understeer. Be gentle with the throttle, very gentle. 2:02.3xx
Did one race C, got pole and finished 3rd Lost one pos in pits and one at last lap. Did go litle wide on the T4. top 3 finished only 1.6sec apart.
Good and clean race.

I'd say the grey Lancer was racing without radar. You can see that they turn in on Sven as they approach the kink, and then they're panicked by the other Lancer taking advantage and go to the grass.

There's a red proximity meter on the speedometer. I've using this week but never noticed it before.

I'd advise against changing the fuel map for race C. Regular pace with a bit of short shifting (not a problem at all for me, since the Supra likes to be short shifted) should be more than enough to carry you to the end of lap 5. Even if you do pull off the no-stop, you're losing so much time running on fuel map 3-4 and hard (?) tires that you'd be better off just pitting instead. :)

Oh since Bathurst is a track I can accept but never really love I‘m not into winning this week. It‘s more about tinkering around and see what‘s possible in regards of settings and driving style. :)

It's been there since the beginning and it should have alerted the car I was passing as well as his screen darkening on the side I was passing.

@GTP_TO Blue You are correct, he got spooked. He did have 3 bars, but he clearly steers himself off. Close up of the mirror:
