I’m tempted to start qualifying with bumper cam. I prefer racing with cockpit for both immersion and spatial awareness, but I’m sure I’m losing ultimate quali time with it.

I tried bumpercam for a Race B session. Just the Warm up. Having used it since GT1-4 and never since GT5P- today, felt soooo weird. Like I don't know where the car is. How far back are my tyres to the apex? my closing speed, seeing more of the road than what's way ahead when in cockpit view.
My now 48yo brain, gives props to my then 26yo brain.

Try the WRX, it doesn't care about a bit of grass or kerb either and I'm 0.5 sec faster in it than the 911.
Audi is still faster but it hates grass :lol:

I’m going to try the R8 and WRX tonight, I’ve only driven the 911.

I haven’t used it in ages, I recall it being usually a little quicker for quali, but I hated how limited visibility was for actual races. For instance if you are car 3 of a train, you won’t know that car 1 is spinning till it’s too late since all you can see is the bumper of car 2.

I finally have some time to race tonight, it’s been a long week. I like whatever it is they changed about the RBJ, I’ve knocked almost a second and a half off my Suzuka time already. :)

Thanks. Oh really? I thought for sure it was the back, it doesn’t get nearly as loose when turning at high speeds now. Thanks for the info. :cheers:

Edit: I got it down to 59.3 a few laps later. Off to Bands now to see how the Porsche has changed with the update. :)

Actually my question was: What do you do about these people?

Dive bombs happen at the front as well. The question is, do you avoid a dive bomb and let the diver through unpunished, reinforcing their idea of making a 'good' pass. Or, let them hit you and let the penalty system give them a slap on the wrist while possibly ruining your own race. The fact is, he kept doing it in the next 2 races (perhaps longer, I had to go) so obviously he thought it was a valid strategy since most people try to stay on the road when getting dive bombed, thus no penalty.

Same answer. Qualify.

The fact of the matter is that those aggressive moves are often coming from people who aren't that fast or that good. They are lunging for track position. The higher up your starting position (and rank) the less you have to deal with them.

There's always a jerk or two out there. It's unavoidable.

If there is one driver that is repeatedly giving you a hard time, take them out hard and suck up the SR blow. If you meet them again, they will be more apt to leave you alone. I have several people on track that were a little more aggressive with me than I would like. I made it obvious that I will not be transgressed without major repercussions, such as always running them off track. Eventually, they yield and ask for a clean race. At that point, I always oblige.
 
Suzuka T1 is cancer. I got punted off there three times in two races (after starting 4th and 3rd!), and the only time any punishment was applied, I spun into the infield and got stuck behind a South African with McDonald's wi-fi.

Sooooo, the Porsche went from a decent amount of lift off oversteer to Mega Understeer. What? I saw that @Tidgney posted a video about the R8 understeering as well, I haven’t watched it yet though.

I just did 10 laps each in both the Porsche and R8 and didn’t spin out once on exits, and got had basically zero lift off oversteer. Yet I went off the outside on exits over well a dozen times, I don’t go off the outside on exits, I spin cars out. This is gonna take some getting used to. :lol:

Edit: @AUTISTICBOYX I had the BB at 0 for my 59.5, and I know @Oshawa-Joe had his at +5 for his 58.3 lap.

Aggghhhhhhhh sooooo flipping close. Got home early today and decided to try the R8 at Brands. Got my personal best down to 1:22.385 with a messy lap. Love the R8 btw.

Next few laps 1:22.4’s over and over and then suddenly I’m up .5 by sector 2, this continued till the final corner where I botched it......each sector apart from the last was a personal best with a optimal time of 1:21.651.......lol so infuriating. Gonna keep cracking at it tonight, 1:21’s are very soon for me. The R8 is also really consistent.

OK. I've found that -5 is optimal for the esses and T1, +2 at degner2 and spoon.

Synopsis: adjusting the brake bias to the rear makes it very tailhappy which can be used to your advantage at some parts but mostly you want to minimize sliding and keep momentum. Hence in on the esses you want -5 for the best turn-in and none of the slide; at degner 2 you want to throw the car sideways a bit to exit at 130 km/h and keep momentum thus +2 felt good here (a little bit of tokyo drift lol). Spoon is very tricky - enter with a high speed and keep 180km/h for as long as you can, gradually slowing down and then sliding into a fine arc +2 here as well.

I'm on a pad so results may vary!

Tilt controls here. -3 for t1. 0 for the rest. +1. For the hairpin. Maybe the chicane but I haven't tried.
59.1 so far. Got room for mid 58 for sure
 
Went for a bit of Goodwood recon for next week as I'll probably have a bit more time to race then.

I thought I was going to hate it, and with another group I probably would, but I think Gr.4 is actually a good choice around there. It's all a bit BTCC and I think the Gr.4s fit the right mould for it.

I get a feeling the Trophy will end up as meta. But I ran the Huracan and it felt good to me.

It's very much a momentum track. If you can flow then you'll be very quick indeed. But step on the grass and you'll lose a lot of time and places. To that end it might not be penaltied too harshly track limitwise, you really won't gain anything from running wide but it will be quite easy to knock people off T1 and T7(? depending on what you want to classify as a turn).

Chicane of death is a 1 at a time job. If you haven't finished making the pass out of the previous turns then get out of it. Not worth a penalty, either way.

Penalties and gardening will affect future sprint races here. But with 15 laps to play with there is quite a lot of time to recover and for others to make mistakes.

Fuel and tyres will be interesting. It is a bit of a power track but again its more about momentum through the sweepy corners to my mind and not necessarily raw speed, so you can probably short shift or run mix2 and save time in the pits, mediums will not last the race so you'll have to change them lap 7 (compensating for the fact you can only simulate with max x10 tyre wear) or Lap 8 if you're good and not losing too much time. Hards might go all the way if you want to run higher fuel useage and save time changing them.

As for hot lap times... I don't really know what'll be good. Lambo race sim, I was running high 1.19s on mix2 always in traffic. So call it 17s in QTT environment if I'm being generous? But I haven't actually given it a go, I just went strategy sim. I'm normally a good 7-8 slower than top time, its not like its a long technical track where you can lose/gain a lot but smoothness will be key. Top times around 10-11s?

I'm readily expecting that to be way wrong and accept I'm very slow. We'll find out.

That may be of interest to some, anyway. Anyone else had a run around? What did we experience?
 
Only 1 big issue with the R8. A complete lack of mirrors in cockpit view .....seriously???

How are we supposed to race blind?? Gotta live by the radar which is pretty bad. I get it PD you want the interior accurate, but we lack peripheral vision so give us a virtual mirror like bumper cam so I can at least gauge the cars behind me.
 
Ok, so after resetting myself, last night from B/S to D/E, I've got back to B/S in 9 B races. Proof that you should never trust anyone's ratings. Because they can change so rapidly, they are irrelevant.

Of course, if someone is DR A, they are good. And if they are A+, they are extremely good. SR is mostly what I'm talking about.

Kudos to the 2nd place egane for leaving me room on the inside T1. It was ahead, but didn't turn down and I braked early enough to not run wide out of the corner. Still slight contact(hence no Clean bonus). T2, same. I braked early enough just in case, but P2 decided to follow me on the optimal racing line. From there, it was a two horse race.

Made sure I took different lines at corner exit ,by using the Scirocco's tuck in and 3rd gear punch. Kept the Megane out of my slipstream all race.
 
DR is kind of relevant for me. Helps with the matchmaking. I like consistency to measure improvement. But it's nowhere near perfect.

I would rather have a selection of competition for each race. "Easy", "Medium", Hard".

That way 1st race in the morning I could start with "Easy".

And for S/A+/A drivers who choose "Hard". Maybe there could be instances where it says "No races are available in that category... Join "medium" race? (Y/N)" so they don't need to risk huge DR losses due to unpredictable matchmaking.
 
Disco'd from the RBJ. NIce. Small grid(12), but mix of B-A+ players. three of us at the back with no Q time.
