Damn that is impressive!! That was my first clean race ever, mind you only had the game 2 weeks.
@Sven Jurgens anywhere I can go to watch some of your replays? Love to watch and learn from the best, been my strategy so far and seems to really be helping.
Your best bet is to race on Tokyo and save the replay after, chances are I'm there lol. I hardly ever upload full races since it takes so long on my slow upload connection. This is my 'channel' where I dump all my short clips I link here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3RAb-ykTZI-JRXclw7yWLw It's 99% complaining about the penalty system
General tips, slow in fast out always works better and gives you options to avoid cars bouncing off walls at corner exit. When in doubt, take the inside in T1 and stay on the inside. Don't try to pass when the car in front is right behind another car, you won't have anywhere to fit in and will only slow both of you down in the next corner. Only pass at the final hairpin if there is another car ahead you can draft otherwise they will simply pass you again on the straight. Don't pass too soon on the straight to get a good slingshot, unless the car in front is already drafting another car, then stick close.
It's really all about reading the traffic and positioning yourself for success. It takes a lot of experience as no two drivers are exactly the same, situations change all the time depending on cars, traffic, lag, emotions. Watch out for those that just got a penalty and stay clear of two battling cars until you can safely shoot past both.
Try to avoid braking in slipstream, position yourself just a little on the inside for maximum braking while giving the person ahead 'the fear' that you're setting up a dive bomb, they will usually brake late. Then if no traffic behind carefully move back to the racing line while braking for the optimal line through the corner. Passing on the outside often works better than on the inside for the simple reason is that, if the outside car turns in on you and bounces off you get a penalty, if the inside car doesn't leave you room, they get a penalty. And always keep half an eye on the mirror while braking, it's better to let a dive bomb through than get wrecked. They will screw up later.
Radar, radar, radar. When in traffic in a corner I hardly look at the road, keep my eyes peeled on the radar to keep equal distance to all the triangles around me. It's a top down racing game in traffic
It takes a lot of practice to be able to adjust each corner on the fly, to take it from any entry speed, any entry line, slipstream, dirty air and get the intended exit point. Hence I don't value qualifying much at all, conditioning yourself to take the corner at the same line same speed over and over is only detrimental to racing other people imo. My braking points, corner speed and lines through corners change all the time so watching a video won't help all that much.
One thing I rely on when blindly jumping on a new track is the blinking gear speed indicator. The correct braking point for any entry speed is usually about 2 blinks after the indicated gear shows in red. (Last week's race B was an exception, there it failed horribly lol). That's useful when you get one of those BS penalties and now approach a sharp corner at a totally different speed or start at different positions on the way to T1 like at NGP.
Practice, practice, practice. Not qualifying gives you the most opportunities to learn. Starting in front and driving away from the pack doesn't teach you anything. From the back you mostly get easier passes, but also some fast drivers that fall behind due to a crash or penalty, maximum learning opportunities and maximum fun
Good luck!
