Heck last night late I entered an A race. Alt. I started fourth. Lobby greetings were great between myself and the third place and second place starters. I only raced a bunch here early in the week.
Anyways race starts and I cover inside which allowed fifth to slip by on exit. No contact from any of us. Third, raced him wheel to wheel no touching at least ten times before. Great racer.
Lap two fourth cuts inside turn three, bashes third.
Turn six I rub by his inside into 4th.
Chicane, I get too deep on entry and end up cutting exit taking .5
Rather than slow, (that was my biggest mistake in race). I end up trying to take inside on third on last turn, and taking it two wide, no contact.
We slow, fifth takes fourth into turn one and is holding middle track on entry. I brake early, rub by him on exit. He cuts track entry turn five and bashes by, I stay on track though and nudge his rear on exit of turn six so he runs a bit wide in sand and slows.
I serve my pen and guy takes inside turn seven, but I’m close through Schumacher and fly by him on the left turn before the right onto the long back straightaway.
On the right, he he’s able to shove his left front into my right rear by an inch and he’s on the floor upsetting my little car and try to pit me.
Obviously now we are slowed locked in a door banging frenzy. Somehow he gets ahead and the fella I initially had trouble with is coming round my outside fast so I release steering a touch, he goes on grass but gets by.
So now I’ve got two dirty guys just in front of me going into chicane.
I make a combo billiard punt, hitting them both into ghost reset taking 3 seconds but still retaining my finishing position while they fall to eleventh and tenth.
I actually like no damage because if someone is dirty and you know where to punt you can punt them into next week for revenge.
I hate dirty racers and cheaters, but as
@Rexracer702 pointed out you could easily take people completely out with little damage to your self with a smart nudge here or there.
You think cheaters would not learn these tricks and use them to full effect?
The pinball collision effects have pluses and minuses, but with real damage these people who lose control and careen across track in front of you would end your races instead of just causing a minor pen, not only that but often you can catch people who bash and take revenge. Plus real damage plus graphics of it plus crazy crashes would encourage people who like to see those things visually and cause them. I think the game makers made a good choice not having all that in there.
As it is you can punt someone going fifty at 200 and there’s no explosions etc. Just penalties.
I do get pissed at cheaters...
And I have no problem taking them out...
The other thing is imo full sim is not what you want for fun online racing. You don’t want your driver to die in a crash ending the game and having to restart.
You don’t want oil all over the track from crashes and coolant and hydraulic fluid and random mechanical failures and car running poor because of unknown problem and to be required to troubleshoot mechanical problems and have to do maintenance on the cars, at least I don’t.
I want a fair race pitting driver against driver. Let’s face it except for a very few we are club level racers at best and few to none of us could handle these racecars irl.
So, for a fun game against real people no imo a hardcore sim is no good at all.
