That said I always try to deal with what we have and take the positives from it - the current Q system is clearly geared toward matchmaking, and I still get a full room of drivers around my rating and close to my Q time nearly every time I race.

In EMEA ;)

Matchmaking isn't quite as good over here, unfortunately. If I go load up Race C right now, it's pretty likely that I'll get matched with A+ through B and qually times 1:36.xxx through 1:40.xxx.

Yup, and no one gets to spend 6 hous qualifying to get that perfect lap for the race. It’s even for everyone then. :)

Yes I'd like it as I think I'd benefit, as well as it being a good idea too and you could change the matchmaking as well, so when you get those mixed Sr rooms, you can be like sorry you are Sr A so you can't start ahead of Sr S no matter how fast you are. :mischievous:

The disparity is interesting. I would have expected EMEA to be the most active region, but I would have thought NA wouldn't be so far behind. I always thought Americans were all car nuts, and with Brazil etc in the mix you'd think there are plenty of petrolheads in the region to fill the servers up.

There are a disproportionately high amount of fast Canadians around, though, which warrants further investigation. Cold outside, I guess?

It's not that "matchmaking isn't quite as good," at least in terms of the algorithm it's exactly the same everywhere; it's just that EMEA simply has far more players than any other region. Same reason the fastest leaderboard times are always from EMEA, it's not that Europeans are naturally faster drivers, they just have a larger pool to draw fast drivers from.

More than half the guys who race dailies can't match their qualifying time anyways so just qualify in the META then race in the car you're most comfortable in. I've won more races than I can count because I was in a car I knew all too well while chasing down META meanwhile they are a good .500 sec off what their advertised times are.

So Europeans are to Gran Turismo Sport what Texas is to football

It would be interesting to know what the average qualifying times were by region and by dr.

I agree with the points above about making qualifying like the FIA races - qualify with the car you are going to run. Also makes for a bit of fun with the tyre ware during qualifying and trying to get that one decent lap (I always fail with that!).

Oh next week looks cool!

Just popping in to jump on the FF balancing complain train.

The RCZ is a crap car to drive, and the way it is now, on top of all the negatives that come with its balancing, I think it encourages less experienced people to use it, compounding the problems it causes times 10.

I like Gr4 cars, so pretty annoying, especially when I can crush my laps times on first try using the RCZ with no practice.

lower dr lobbies make less of a difference, but it still throws a monkey wrench into every corner.

So what's the line on which cars for A and C races? I'm gonna guess:
A will be the Mazda Roadster because, why not. Don't think we've seen it in a while and I think it'd be fun.
C Because it's a garage car, I'm thinking Bugatti VGT. It's a gift car or it's only 1 mil and I don't know that I've seen it in a daily.

Autopolis ... KM.

More competitive at Seca than I expected but still bleeding DR like a sieve. It's a garbage race track, good driving track but like Brands, really tough to pass.

The disparity in Group 4 is crazy, I was half a car in front of an RCZ coming out of the lat corner and it was a full car length ahead of my REX by T1. Like really??? Silly.

Mmmm only done two online races in the Honda/Toyota formula cars, I’ve improved a lot since and I’d love for another go! Hope that’s on the way.

don’t know why but the flow of the those cars just feels so good for me!

Seeing as the Viper is the car to use this week, I decided to make it a new livery. :)

P2 - P5 on Fuji for me today, P1 to P6 within 8 seconds. It was a fun race, decided to not defend or be too agressive a couple of times to protect the gap to cars behind, didn’t turn out too well as I bled some positions. But given the racing was clean I still end the evening with a good feeling :D

Found a whole bunch of time at fuji. Got down to 1:38.9 but didn't get enough time to perfect. Blipping the throttle on curbs and long curves.

Edit: Broke my 20k DR. Never thought it would happen with that last round of dry runs. Only took 3 fuji races averaging 1000pts/race.

Not sure if it’s just me but I’m not really keen on Laguna Seca. It’s too flat and the first section in particular is so slow. I tried it in the TT and found it suffered terribly from understeer and just couldn't get going. I might give it another go in a real wheel drive car as I hate the RCZ but I'll probably be too far off the pace.

I don’t particularly like Fuji either but I’m not bad at it. I did two races, the first one I started 12th with door number 5, so I knew it would be a tough race. I got a penalty for hitting someone who braked way too early, then a penalty for corner cutting and then another for hitting the wall in the pit lane so I rage quit for the first time in a long time.

I went back to qualifying and got my time down to 1:38.155 which was enough to get pole. I opened up a 4 second gap within 2 laps and had a very comfortable race which was a huge contrast to the last one.

I would have thought with a larger pool of players you'd have better matching.
Larger pool does give better matchmaking, @roamingbard13 is in north America.

It would be interesting to know what the average qualifying times were by region and by dr.
Average Q times will be the same, but there'll be more drivers at all speeds in EMEA.
One difference though is that in a less populated region it's easier to gain DR up to the point where one is being matched against players of equal rank due to the wider range of skills in each race. In a busy region you'll be matched against drivers mostly the same skill level as yourself and will gain mostly the same DR from each driver you finish in front of. Because it's more common to be mixed with drivers higher ranked than yourself in less populated regions (or at quieter times of day) there's more opportunity to beat much higher ranked drivers and reap large DR rewards.
My main account is Asia/Oceania which is nearly as busy as Europe. It's a real struggle to gain DR for me on my main. I have an American alt account and it generally sits 3 - 7K higher in DR than my main even though I race it less often and without concern for DR. I'm driving the same cars (mostly, there's not as many cars in the alt's garage) in the same races and running more or less the same lap times on both accounts, the difference is entirely in the matchmaking and times of day that the races are run.

Man I’m getting scared of entering those high speed harpins at Fuji! I’ve been off my game so I don’t trust myself and brake early, so I’ve been giving away the inside to people in my draft pretty much.

lol this seems to really confuse people and gets alittle funky, but been clean!

Had some really good racing with people here, and recognize some folks, and building bonds seems to really help.

Being off my game and my controller analog getting funky (uh oh) I’ve been bummed out from a few spins, simply because it’s been fun racing! But... then I find a new friend!

So tonight, good clean racing in mid-b.

(just people I was racing, seen plenty of carnage lol)

goodluck!
