Really enjoying Suzuka this week. In Asia, the 99SR lobbies have been really clean racing. I’m finding the ability to adapt strategy on the fly makes a huge difference. My qualifying time is generally putting me mid pack so I start the GTR on Mediums. If the first lap is chaos (I am still amazed by how many cars go off at T1) and I jump a few spots with clean air ahead I do a 5/5 split. If I’m fighting with cars mid-pack I do a 1/5/4 or a 1/4/5 to try and get some clean air and maximize time on Softs.

To date I’ve gained 4,500DR.

Complaining about things in the after race chat is a good way to make me go look for them, I'd probably miss them otherwise as there is too much chaos and non-action to look through. ;)

I'm the same, lol. I can't ask for better reference points.

I'm liking there's a strategy, staying away from dumb drivers and herds along with clean air is pivotal. One race I stayed 9 laps on softs because my gap was surprisingly increasing with a 4 sec lead after pitting. I loaded the replay and there was a cat fight between 3 drivers behind which only lent to increase my gap. I'm not exactly good at Suzuka and it feels like I'm only finishing well due to shenanigans of others.

This actually means you are good at Suzuka. Too many drivers are able to set crazy fast qualifying laps but cannot actually race that track in a smart way. So much time is lost by people who think they can pass in zones that are suicidal.

Understanding the nature of the sectors on the course and managing your exposure to bad positions is the key to Suzuka race craft.

Glad it is the Alt I have taken out on the road today. Alsace is a nutters paradise at the moment. Keep getting divebombed on the sharp left before the bowl turn. And I know to look, but the last one the guy was 0.7 behind.
Maybe possible in some worlds , but not here. And of course he continues on while i get a 3 second penalty. I am driving as clean as I can, and have only in my mind caused 2 collisions, both misjudged with the accordion effect at the corners. Both caused no crashes.

Despite my best evasive efforts I am getting it wrong when the spinning car re-enters the track, or been run off when I had to leave room for the over eager bomber. SR starting to freefall as the rooms get worse. Might have some good video clips though.

Edit: Just got wasted twice by a guy trying the ford GT here. After the obligatory lap 1 penalty they were near me, crashed on the curb while beside me twice. Penalties to me both times. It is at least an unpredictable adventure. Lap 1 penalty was me getting loose on curb and nipping someone as I spun. I earned that one

And that is reason #1 why I avoid Alsace like the plague. Reason #2 is I can't drive either direction to save my life.

I'm more than happy to do the Super GT races at Suzuka this week as the Lexus suits my driving style, and Suzuka is a fun place to race.

Good morning friends,

Last night late I had a chance to sit down and play for the first time in quite a while.
I ran B race a couple times.
I didn’t qualify or practice. I ran my RS01.
In the second race I started ninth then got to fifth by end of lap one. I spent a couple laps catching then took fourth but as soon as I did so I was rammed off track. Meh.
Nice move Farva...

These combos this week are great.
The problem is I have essentially lived my best gt friends alt handle out for real recently. Surreal but...it might be a while for me to get back 100 percent...

Some more videos, to be far to this driver while they could have avoided some of the incidents I can see they (the brit) were annoyed at finishing 18th when they were in a decent position at one point early on. :indiff:

Also in the middle of all that they got done by the pitting car penalty. :banghead:

This one is so annoying, I've been done by it too, although I got a 3 second penalty, it is usually 4. :ouch:

Well as always if you want to race you need 99 sr.
B race is proving that to me now. At my current sr there’s group 3 cars, on an excellent track for them, there’s me, looking to have fun races, but there’s no one else in my races who is like minded at sr B and C. I’m just playing to play, relax.
I’m not going to farm sr on C race. I’m just gonna play. I’ll use whatever car I want, drive however I feel like.
I’m thinking my main is retired for good.
I’m thinking many others feel the same.
I am seeing them at low sr.
I’ve seen guys go off onto grass, cross the whole track, smash people off and continue with no penalty at all. I’ve seen the same driver do this several times in a race and not get penalized.
I’ve no idea why they won’t go to a shared fault penalty system.
Honestly, I’m not ever racing seriously again on main unless the pen system is completely reworked.
Thing is is I haven’t cared and just raced alt only for a long time now anyways.
But, after not playing at all for a few weeks, then returning back and seeing what it is...man...
Don’t get me wrong, yes, there’s fantastic racing to be had in GTS on America’s, but only if you are at top .5 percent.
Now, average B B America’s room is still fun to have access to for a quick race whenever you want no qual or a half assed qual. It’s fun. But it’s not racing. It’s a video game, and that’s ok.
I do have a serious question for myself tho and that’s if I had the dough and everything what’s the attraction of ps5 and the next title?
I’ve never played these before Sport so trial mountain has no nostalgia for me...
Gts servers will probably be kept on quite a while...
I don’t care about bolting on an exhaust virtually onto a vid game car.
To me GTS far as setup menus features etc is fine.
The one thing that’s always held it back is a wonky pen system that tries to assign blame instead of doing it the better way and blaming both drivers or all 3 etc.
Why would someone like myself want another title?
Honestly I won’t fall for “NEW IMPROVED PEN SYSTEM”
I dunno, just playing dailies on an anonymous scrub account is about the most I can invest in this.
Don’t get me wrong that’s still fun, but it’s not racing.
I love the quick hit sprint race format of the dailies.
I’m not a person who can do a more “sim” private lobby of say 40 laps on a track.
To me sprints are enough.
I don’t even know where I’m going with this.
I respect anyone who does play serious and tries to see what they can achieve, but I already did that and know where I stand overall if I put in the time and effort, and it’s not easy at all.
I guess going forward I plan to stick on gts as long as possible.
After that who knows...
Only thing I know is this: any online racing game is only as good as it’s rating system and pen system.
Better physics is secondary to the most fair competition possible. Graphics, sound, all of it.
I think on dailies there’s many players who feel as I do.
Imagine this game, as it exists right now, with a rating/pen system that was more advanced and actually clear about the reason for sr downgrade or penalty.
Imagine it with Industry leading pen system, that 80-90 percent or more of players like and understood.
If you can imagine that you see where I’m coming from.
There’s no need for another title for online at all.
They just need to scrap the idea that blame can be assigned. They need to start fresh.
One race from a person with a long history of FairPlay should not result in significant sr down.

It’s really the Achilles heel of GTS, this system (mess)

Took the Lexus to Suzuka, improved my qualifying time slightly.
Had some SR repair to do today after a bad late night race yesterday :scared:
Stretched one race to 9 S 1M, misjudged the gap behind so as I exited pits P4 caught me, kept it tight but they didn't take the outside, the S's were close, had the racing line so held it until the end.
My favourite idiot of tonight's racing..... I'm P2 starting L6, P1 pitted & exited behind me, hold my line but he keeps bumping me through the S's makes a stupid move gets a 4 sec penalty for pushing me off, then destroyed by the pack, ha. No patience or real race craft. I quite enjoyed helping to ruin his race

I just installed the 1.62 update. There is an additional Information notice titled "Online Penalty Adjustments Notice (November 13)".

Quote:

On November 13, adjustments have been made to the system issuing penalties in the 'Sport' mode and Lobbies of Gran Turismo Sport. The details are as follows:

[PENALTIES]
- The penalty judgement algorithm in regards to light contacts and collisions between cars during online races has been adjusted.

Sounds pretty vague. Anyone have anything more specific?

I haven't tried it yet, or seen any evidence but I can say with confidence that it is probably worse.

I screwed up and crossed the line in warm ups, so my plan to run from the back in race C and rebuild my alt SR is now an attempt to run away from the pack. Will let you know. Very low SR room so if I dont escape the new system will get tested.

Edit: and it seems to have eased off slightly on the slight tap bits, but I wasn't involved in many, just one slight bit on lap 1. Saw a couple that didnt result in penalties, but will hold off on a full verdict.

On further note from others on discord we might be closer to the Laguna seca debut system, where any type of side contact gives a penalty. I ran my races mostly alone, and didnt see this when watching the replay. Anyone else got anything?

Race A for next week is at Tokyo Expressway Central Outer Loop. Given that it's the one track I can keep up with the best of the best and GT7 seems like it will come before we see this track again in Weekly Races, I may have one final run with my main account (and almost certainly have it blown up in my face through no fault of my own).

Just had two Race A’s, minor contact in both, still SR downs.

The whole Aus server pings are terrible this week, makes it very hard racing when cars are jerking all over the place!

I don't know if it's worse but it's still odd. I've got 4 small clips I've found from a race I was in and it is not getting things correct still. Will add them here shortly so everyone can see.

Also got dc'd just before the rolling start began in one race. :ouch:

Good morning friends,

Yesterday I raced quite a few in the RS01.
I found though as my dr was running top of b and sr at b that at some point people wouldn’t stop hitting me.
I switched things up to the MUSTANG.
No more issues getting bullied but you really gotta be good with the lines and smooth steering and brakes.
I took a bunch of seconds in the RS01 and won twice in the pony car.
The RS01 does better than one might think with its great aero qualities and agility, but people just seem to like hitting it off for some reason.
I haven’t tried the 458 Italia. Last time I used it I felt it still had handling issues.

Good luck!

It means an automatic 10s penalty for every incident, including light contact, followed by a disqualification warning after 1 collision. Fault for collisions will still be attributed to the wrong car.

/s (though I still think it'll wind up behaving similar to this...)

Ha. “adjustment”.
Well they’ve been tinkering for years now with a system based on a flawed concept.
I feel like this scene here would be me in person with the devs.
Substitute “retainer” with “overhaul”
Far fetched tie in maybe with this vid...

I just think stop tinkering. Rebuild it totally from the ground up.

It looked like everyone was kicked while still in the pre-race warmup. P1 was the only one in the race and everyone else got -5 SR.

Maybe the new penalty system adjustment was really to just give everyone the clean race bonus.

For the record I got it today in a Race where I got a deserved corner cut penalty, don't think that is a clean race either or it shouldn't be at least. :indiff:

Last time they essentially shut the penalty system off, it turned out to be better than what we just had. So, who knows maybe this will work out for now?

No earlier I still saw a penalty to the car in front because the one behind bumped it and a slight side tap give one and then loads of worse behaviour was ignored by the system.

The only thing I didn't see was a penalty of more than 1 second but they are probably still there for when you bump someone who then pits or you get smashed way off track by an idiot because of course these are mega crimes.
