Daily, weekly and monthly rivals

Today's Daily is a Hot Lap at Mugello in a Bentley Continental GT, in the rain. Standing water isn't much of an issue for the Bentley at this track, but the slippery conditions mean you'll be sliding sideways through the turn and right off the track if you go in too hot. Brake early and get it pointed in the right direction before getting back on the gas.

The new Weekly event is a Pace Setter at Silverstone GP in a Formula X. A very fast track in this car, of course; just be careful of understeer in some of the faster corners and watch the wheelspin in the slow turns. Your KERS is best used starting at the top end of 5th or so where the air resistance starts to kill your forward drive (especially once you hit 6th). There are plenty of long straights to take advantage of, so don't waste it.

Today is a Pace Setter at the short Yas Marina South Circuit in a Mercedes CLK-LM (with the sloooowest rolling start ever, for some reason...). The CLK is very tail-happy on acceleration; you'll need to carefully modulate the throttle through all the sharp turns here to keep up your momentum without spinning, especially in the first left-right-left complex. Don't drop the hammer until you're pointing in the right direction and no longer steering much, or else it'll swap ends (and it will still try even in a straight line when you hit the torque peaks in the first couple gears, so be ready to countersteer when needed). It's a pretty fun run, but your attempts do go by fast here, with ~55-second lap times, so it might be worth trying some offline practice before diving in.

Today is a Hot Lap at Monza in a Jaguar F-Type SVR. Road cars aren't really a lot of fun at Monza, and the Jag corners like a boat, so even the chicanes aren't very satisfying. Just don't brake late, as this car does not like to stop.

Today is a Pace Setter at the short Knockhill International Reverse in a Mercedes-AMG GT R. This one's pretty fun; pick your braking points just right to get the Merc to rotate through the first hairpin and the tight second turn, then keep your momentum up by cheating the chicanes as much as possible without putting more than two wheels on the wrong side of the blue-and-white curbs. Try to put in a solid run before you really start pushing the limit, though, as your ten runs go by fast and it's easy to make a mistake and cut one of the chicanes just a little too much.

Today is a Hot Lap at the long Monument Canyon Mesa View layout, in a Porsche 961 GT car. This car isn't great on this track; it doesn't like the bumps, and it just plows straight ahead whenever you touch the gas, which makes it hard to get through that series of 90-degree corners in the first sector, and especially that tricky double-90 with the kink in the town.

Today is a Hot Lap at Bannochbrae in a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Racing. Very fast and stable car on this track; just watch for that bit of understeer in a few places, like the village chicane (use both footpaths and make it as straight as possible, as the car doesn't like to change directions quickly at high speed) and the last corner before the start/finish stretch, which is deceptively off-camber.

Couple different tracks than the usual today. The new Daily event is a Pace Setter at Jerez, which I don't think we've seen in Rivals before (or at least not recently), in a BMW M1 Procar. The M1 is a bit tail-happy at high speeds and this track has a lot of high-speed corners, so it's a pretty fun challenge; some are easy and flat-out, some are flat-out but demand exactly the right entry angle to avoid following your sliding rear end right off the road on exit, and some require varying small amounts of lifting or braking to get the entry speed just right. There are a few tighter corners and chicanes as well, but those aren't too difficult in this car.

The new Weekly event is a Hot Lap at Lake Valley Outer Long, which I don't think we've seen except in one SuperTruck event a while back. Honestly, the SuperTruck was a lot more suited to this course than the Porsche 935 GT car they give you here; this thing does not like the bumps and hills on this layout and tends to just go flying around randomly at a couple key spots (particularly coming out of the underpass into that hard left-hander), which makes it tricky to put in a consistent lap. The laps are very short as well (well under 40 seconds), so it can be hard to get into a rhythm. The rolling start puts you at a really awkward angle for the first turn, so that's tricky as well.

Today is a Pace Setter at Zandvoort National in a Lotus Type 49C Cosworth. This car likes to be driven a little aggressively to get good rotation through the corners; don't be afraid to use some trail braking and let the rear hang out a bit to slide around the apex. Also, don't forget that this is the National layout; the left-hand sweeper at turn 6 (Slotemaker) ends in a very tight right-hand hairpin immediately at the exit, so don't go flying through that corner at full throttle like you would on the GP circuit.

Today is a Hot Lap at Barcelona GP in a Ford GT LM GTE. The GTE car is surprisingly neutral in terms of handling, tending just slightly towards understeer, but it still rotates well enough through the corners and can carry plenty of speed through the long sweepers here. Just choose your entry angles properly and arc it across the apexes. Don't enter the tighter corners too fast, though, especially on the final chicane, or that bit of understeer will bite you and kill your exit speed.

Today is another brick braker. why? They could do so much more with Rivals on this game.. it's really all that it has left going for it unless its going on Game Pass.

Probably because efforts are now on the next game,

Coming up to its one year from launch and it’s barely improved or looking like it will improve, Rivals has literally added to the games longevity.

Today is a Hot Lap at the Indy road course in a Ginetta LMP3. A slower prototype, but very stable and easy to drive. Turn 4 and the following chicane can make or break your lap here; watch for the bump entering turn 4 especially and don't let it take you too far off your ideal exit line.

Are we sure there will be a PC4?

Today's Daily event is a Hot Lap at Interlagos in a Renault Megane RS Trophy. A rather slow road car with a fair bit of understeer. It's important to get those first esses and the last sharp corner before the frontstretch right, or it will cost you a lot of time. Don't trail brake here, either, as it unsettles the car and starts all the tyres sliding, which will cost you a lot of momentum; brake early and then turn in (and watch the understeer under acceleration).

The new Weekly event is a Pace Setter at Zandvoort GP in a Ferrari 488 Challenge. A bit more slippery than the other spec Ferraris, but still fun to drive. Try not to put too much wheel into it while accelerating hard on corner exit, or you'll break the rears loose and lose a lot of forward bite. Similarly, the slick curbs can cost you some acceleration, so don't get up on those too much. Be smooth through Zandvoort's twists and turns and you'll get a solid set of laps.

Today is a Hot Lap at Lake Valley Outer Long again, but this time in a BMW M3 Sport Evo Group A, and in the rain. The Group A M3 has an easier time on this course than the Porsche GT car from last week, but the rain makes it a very different challenge. You'll want to drive it like a rally course, drifting sideways through the corners, steering with the throttle, and hopefully sliding the nose right across the apex while lined up just right for the next stretch. Don't slide sideways through the banked speedway turn, though; for that you'll want to take a nice easy line and keep that momentum up as much as possible.

Today is a Pace Setter at Monument Canyon Array Peak in the Group N Alpine A442B. A fast car for a fast course, the Alpine flies through all the high-speed corners here. Don't be afraid to push hard (after you have a decent fallback run, of course); the car can handle it.

Today is a Hot Lap at Snetterton 300 in a KTM X-Bow GT4. A deceptively tricky event; while the X-Bow isn't hard to drive, Snetterton has so many long straights that every small mistake will cost you a ton of time, so putting together a perfect lap on this long track with all its varied corners is actually pretty difficult.

Today is a Pace Setter at Bahrain GP in a Toyota GT-One, with an oddly slow 80km/h rolling start that adds a few seconds to your first lap. Pretty standard prototype on a typical Tilkedrome, so nothing too unusual here otherwise.

Today is a Pace Setter at the long Yaz Marina GP course in an Indycar. This car suits the track quite well; plenty of downforce to get you through those medium and high-speed corners, and it handles well enough on the slower turns. Just watch for that bit of understeer on some turns (if the front does start to wash out, breathing the throttle slightly will usually bring it back under control), and don't let those bumps on that first series of full-throttle sweepers catch you out. The car doesn't like the high curbs here, though, so try to stay off those if you can.

Today is a Hot Lap at Not-Suzuka International in a Diablo GTR. A well-balanced car, but the suspension is a bit tight for the bumpier parts of this layout, particularly the cut-through hairpin and chicane. If you don't take just the right angle through those, the bumps will throw you off line and cost you a fair bit of time. The esses after the Not-Spoon Curve are tricky as always, as well; you'll want to carry a fair bit of speed through those, but it's hard to judge your entry angle and braking point correctly while flying over the blind crest of the hill there.

Today is a Pace Setter at the National layout of Barcelona in a Ford Mustang GT Racing GT car. Drives like a Mustang; handles well enough in the high-speed corners, but it can be a bit of a pig in the low-speed switchbacks, as it doesn't like to change direction quickly. Try not to take too much curb in those slow corners, either, as it gets the car bouncing and makes it hard to get the right exit line and get the power down.

New month starts today!

The Daily event (whose name indicates that SMS has a very poor grasp of how Spanish works...what the **** is a "Dry of Lagoon"? :odd:) is a Hot Lap at Laguna Seca in a Porsche 911 RSR. This car is on rails, so the key here is to be really aggressive everywhere except the carousel, where you want to make sure you hit just the right line to exit smoothly and get the correct entry into the next corner.

The new Weekly event is a Hot Lap at Monument Canyon River Run in an Aston Martin Vantage AMR. This one's all about managing the understeer; you'll want a very late apex on most of the corners to get the best exit speed, as you'll just plow it wide if you're still turning under acceleration. That second 90-degree corner after the town is critical, as any speed lost through there will cost you a ton of time through the entire full-throttle section before the final corner.

The new Monthly event is a Hot Lap at Circuito de Jerez in the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO. The understeer can be tricky to deal with on all the long corners at Jerez, so hit your marks just right. Tuning is also unlocked for this event, and this car can be fully tuned, so you might be able to flex your race engineer muscles to squeeze some faster lap times out of the thing.
