Well I think I ended on a good note tonight. Got pretty much everything I would ever need for solo survival except matches, a water bottle and a sidearm. No player encounters since that guy that stole my beans. Is it just me or does it seem like whenever you are about to set yourself up nicely you get killed by something? Just me? Eh, I must be cursed. So much for the "luck of the Irish" lol.

Also my 2 cents for the new platoon name; I think we should switch it up and go with Platoon of Anonymous Zombieholics. Though the acronym does not have the same...zap to it (lol I kill me)

I know how you feel! This game is out to get me, last three times I died were because of bugs or friendly fire. The blue on blue sucked so much, since I spend so much time getting all the basic gear together that I lost in the debug forrest. :p

Next time I login I may need a lot of Dutch courage. :P

Anyway, I know we have a large group and I know assaulting Stary with 6+ team is tempting, but too large groups are cumbersome and hard to coordinate. We should really practice overwatch, spacing, identifying and spotting in small towns, the zombies will keep us on our toes.

Everyone should have a compas and know how the bearing/degrees system works. That alone can be so helpfull in spotting enemies, "enemy spotted at bearing xxx".

Also, instead of yelling 'I died!', call out for com silence and state your name, location and possible location of your enemy. This should be automatic. Atm I notice that this info is not always forthcoming.

I am honestly kind of frustrated. I don't know if its because I am the only Female in the group but I have actually mentioned many things that are in that guide. I might not have said it just like that but especially lately I have been giving advice to the players who are online and no one listens. I am not at all saying oh listen to me! lol but It is frustrating when I am trying to help and people then go and do things I said we shouldn't lol. Especially when I was vote for a postition. Not saying I hold anything above anyone else but why put me there if you wont take my advice?

I am also up way to late and I have work so I will go pass out lol. Either way once Dom joined up you guys did a lot better.

I have been tempted to get the Tracker IR since I started playing this game. I am only holding out because my 360 is dieing on me and I use that for more then just games atm lol. Love the link though Jaime. :)

It's not that we don't listen Tasty and it's sure not because you're a woman! The problem is that it is hard to transmit knowledge ingame, when there are so many distractions. It's why I posted the guide, so that people can soak up the knowledge more easily.

Tasty, and this goes to all the leaders. Don't hesitate to tell us to shut up on TS and also don't feel bad about picking out one of the team members and tell them to move up to a certain spot, feel free to give us orders!
I feel that there is too much democracy and lone wolfing in firefights atm. Which is good in some instances. But yesterday that got the better of us.

I was listening on teamspeak, and at one point I heard Walker ask Michael for suppressing fire on a enemy player's location so that he could move in closer for a visual and a kill.

That is what we need more of.

^I agree. And when Dom came (you missed that Jaime) it was a lot better. We are finally not moving like ducks in a row.

Crouch walking should be the rule. Always try to get yourself in a dark background to not be as easily spotted.

DO not go on the edge of an hill (like the story n stary) where your silhoutte is sticking out of the hill.

When I was playing alone, I was moving a lot more carefully than in the last days. We got cocky with our high grade equipement.

On what happened yesterday:

Moved in to a meeting point at X. Then drove back to Y in our crap vehicule.
Then moved out and picked up some other players (I got your glitched FF death on cam Jaime).
Then we wanted to raid Stary.
Some of us went down and others and I took overwatch, which till then worked out.
THen we regrouped on top of the hill in no cover at all, our sihouettes sticking out of the hill when a sniper suddenly dispatched one after the other.

I was able to get to cover as the most of us were slayed. They eventually DC or whatever. That took some time though and we lost good men.
We waited for some to come back to get there gear, which worked out only to be ambushed again. Mr Ian, our archenemy opposing team, killed some again.

After a bit of him hiding I was able to pierce him with 2 rounds of
41366_100000742810453_5048_n.jpg

3 people left we headed out for XY in a long run. When the others spotted an other player. Shots fired I reposition to take my sniper shot and bam on the ground. He had a good position behind one of these stone walls.

So eventually we all regrouped in Cherno of the people who died (all but 2), scavanged a bit, when in a pub we were being shot down by a sniper.

We started laying covering fire while Walker started to dance in the streets to get some attention , one of us, the most heavy armed, got to the sniper postition and took them out.

That was so nice after so much frustration we had.

Then we left and met Dom and his spotter (get name later). and moved out, and as described we took down 3 other players in what was one epic moment.
3.2.1. everybody fire. Nice, then I logged off as I realized I needed to get to work, which worked but I am at my 5 coffee.

I need to meet this Dom person, I might stay alive longer now! ;)
Can you upload the glitch movie? :P

And that Mr. Ian... He's our Dr. Doom, our Lex Luthor!

Since I am a bit bored at work... How about these overwatch positions for Stary? I need to confirm them ingame but they look OK... We get overwatch on the tents and on the sniper hill (It's smack under the letters BIN in the city name) where the Line of Sights meet.

Hid the image. If anyone is interested send me a PM.

 Yeah. He's not alone, he's with his group and for me it's wierd that they have all this stuff. They are probably server hoping. I mean 5 NVG's Gps, AS50's in mass, vehicules, thats all stuff hard to come by and they seem to have plenty of it. Tough we might have heavily dented their stock

We know they are 3-4. Are good at sniping and seem to have a tent east of stary. Probably between Stary and Berezino.

For the overwatch posit. I do not want to discuss it much here as we might have ninja readers here. But Walker found also a good overawatch position last time for stary.

Yeah, they probably hop servers for Stary loot. Yet, I believe GPS/NVG's are NW Airfield or heli loot?

Hey all,

Agree with all the comments here. Good learning experience. I thought of 3 main things we definitely can work on to improve our "success" in the game: Following leadership, communications and tactics. All of which are critical when we have a larger group on! This is what I learned:

Leadership: During action/missions there was a bit of disregarding orders and self-appointed leadership going on which just causes confusion. We need to establish and follow at least in those high-stress moments. And as suggested I think everyone in the group should get their chance at leadership duties in rotation as well as sniper/backup/assault. The established leaders can make the call and make sure everyone is aware, and everyone else should follow. This can all be practiced.

Communications: Too much unnecessary communications, disorganization of multiple groups, confusion as to location, reporting location and how to call out contacts. This also relates to tactics. Practice should really help!

Tactics: If we establish key operational techniques i.e. assignments, formations and how to infiltrate, exfiltrate, transit, defend an area, multiple fire teams, etc, we can quickly establish goals and roles and leave the comms for the important stuff. Again can all be practiced.

Speaking of practice! How does everyone feel about making a weekly practice session? We can focus on something new each week, incorporating tactics i.e. from the guide link posted above and with help of those of us with tactical knowledge and experience. This can be done in Arma2 and is quite cool with the mission editor. We can create scenarios to group us up in any situation/location on the map to practice.

Anyway I had a lot of fun although it was quite frustrating at times, but mainly great experience and lots of learning. Everyone did very well considering and there were some incredibly awesome heart-pounding moments.

The weekly training session sounds awesome, sign me up! Think we can set one up today? :D

Yes!

I will come up with a multiplayer mission around the stary/novy area to similulate similar situations we experienced the past few days. Perhaps today we can work on roles, communication and movement while engaging in some mock battles if that sounds good.

Everyone who wants to join in practice: make sure you are able to run Arma2 Operation Arrowhead beta patch without the DayZ mod. There are potential problems depending on how you have yourself setup, but basically make sure you are running the beta patch, and if using steam, launch the mod without the -mod=@dayz part in the shortcut (you can instead enable/disable the @dayz expansion in game options).

I'll be on TS around 9AM PST looking for yall.

Hey, I spoke with Stig about a week ago about joining you guys. Just wanted to check in with that progress, and checking if this practice is members only.

Thanks Jaime. I just wanted to make sure. I get what you are saying but the times I do give out advice its way before any firefights but I guess people have to figure it out on their own on some cases. I am glad we are getting more training though.

Once we have two seperate teams actually set up it will be a lot easier for the leaders to actually lead lol. I saw too many people wanting to just lead and snipe and not actually work as a team. I will usually keep quiet if walker and beavis are on and let them do what they think we should do and for them to tell others to shut up basically and let them lead lol otherwise I would be telling people to knock **** off XD

I would love to join up with you guys....

But for now, me and a few friends are playing together so. ;)

-------

Yesterday, me and a friend followed 2 players from Stary to the north west airfield.
The guys where just running through the cities, and shooting the zombies when leaving the cities.
When they had run through the outer barracks, we spotted another guy (not with them obviously since he tried to sneak away from them), and we both shot him in the head.
He only had AKS-74 and a few mags, nothing big.
After that we sneaked around the airfield, coming up behind the 2 earlier players, when they had killed 3 people in the barracks near the hangars. Shortly after they came out, we were waiting in the grass in a nice ambush. Killed them both quickly.
I got a M16A2, with 4 stanag mags, and I already had 6 stanag sd mags, so I was quite happy.
My friend picked up the M4 with some mags aswell.
Heading out, we just ran straight over the airfield towards the first barracks again, having 20+ zombies (no kidding) behind us. Turned around and shot the zombies quickly, and headed towards the barracks.
Inside I found a PDW which I traded for my M1911 (which I was out of mags for).
Found 3 mags for the PDW so not a bad loot.
Headed east to Berezino now for more loot, only got the ALICE pack, and im still looking to recover my coyote pack with 24 slots.

Yeah a bit of training sounds good. (open for every one i think, wait for confirmation)

I can take over also an assault class, no problem with that (I hate snipers except in Arma)

Also about the team roles. As we have 3 ex-military in here, even though they are new, they should get a leading role sooner or later.

I played a lot of paintballs with soldiers, but they are civilians compared to Us specs

I think we should also take over the command structure from Arma2,

Platoon Leaders

Alpha Squad :Squad leader(s) + 3 fireteams (1. Overwatch (snipers, spotter, cover) / 2. Support (HMG, 2 assaults) / 3. Assault squad (2 Assaults (maybe 1 HMG) +1 medic supplied one)

etc for further squads.

Maybe our Army guys can enlighten us more with how our structure would be at best.

HAs anybody seen Mr. Ian on the DayZ forums yet, I tried to find him, but no luck, we need to get the names of the others too. Do ninja reading of their posts if there are any

Yeah and our comms need to be better, like precise and short. Like at Stary we took like 5 min to get the location (bushes) the badies were. That is fatal.

make sure you are able to run Arma2 Operation Arrowhead beta patch

Yeah otherwise you spawn as a bird  (the bird is the word)

Training is not a bad idea. Even some terminology could come in handy. I noticed last night, but began keeping my mouth shut later on, that we lack an exfil location or even a path of egress out of a potentially hostile zone.

Escape and evasion can help save plenty of us, even if we're on the losing end of a battle. That's the other thing. There is no such thing as retreat, only advancing in a different direction.

It is not, even a little bit, a bad thing to recognize the odds are not in our favor, and when we realize this, to make our way out of the hot zone. You will split up at this point, it happens. Hence the need for an exfil point with a path of egress that hopefully also happens to be the path of least resistance.

It's also a good idea to hit up the wiki and read up on the different weapons and know their effective firing range. Once you know that, and what the different weapons sound like, or if we can get eyes on the guns, you know the approximate range at which you need to remove yourself.

There's probably more, but I'm at work and should probably get to checking these controls systems I'm designing, that is unless someone WANTS to hear about a plant blowing up =x

Oh, one more thng. I called movement a few times, once it turned out to be nothing (dern cows), the other time I knew I saw a player. If you see even a bush that you think is suspect, it is better to take the two minutes to get down, cover the area and get a visual confirmation on the object before moving out. One day that cow or bush could be opfor looking down an M107 at your dome.

@ Ibo -I am pretty sure they will especially when they show more to the rest of the team as Dom has....and now I have that sound stuck in my head...thank you very much. -_-

I saw that too Nite. By the time I made my way there and most of the team had been killed again by the same group I just told everyone to move out now. My game decided to minimize and I have to close it when that happens.. Right after all but newt where sniped. I think my game hating me saved my life.

I am all for farming survivors at stary but I don't like how the group has handled that area. It looks like most of you see where we need to work on and thats awesome. Makes it a lot easier to fix. Hopefully some of you can make the training today.

Btw there is no one online on the server atm if anyone wants to make runs anywhere. It is raining in game atm and dark but give it a little and you will be able to see decently enough with your settings turned up.

The moment I climbed up that huge industry building, had a few zombies after me, killed 2 guys sniping the entire cherno, saved knudi and our Bodyguard, and I think Ibo aswell!
That feeling, was amazing! I want more of it!

Hey guys, so I just wanted to give a rundown of what happened today. I got on around the middle of the day and the teamspeak was basically empty. I played solo for around 4 hours, and finally found the new teamspeak info on the forums.

It was at this time Newt needed some drinks so I circled around novy, where I had been posted with a DMR for a while, and headed for a tree line. Once in, I spotted someone up in front of me and I took him out as he turned to aim at me.
I had killed michael, sorry michael :(.

After that mishap, we checked out some tents, im not sure how they were found, and then I believe the hacker incident came next. Basically he was just teleporting around and blowing people up.

Edit* Before the hacker, we were able to unleash our firing squad on a couple of survivors running towards novy.

As I respawned in cherno, I ran into a building and looted a little bit only to fall off the top and break my legs. I had to respawn and then I looted electro. I packed in some stuff at electro then headed north to where we all had died earlier.

On my way North, I found a body of someone who must have been killed by the hacker. I got a bizon, 7 mags, a m107, and basically filled up the rest of my bags.

I then headed to all of our bodies, where blazing had set up some tents and moved our weapons into. Here I traded the m107 for the L85 and watched over the tents as they transferred everything to our camp.

Unfortunately, I got some really high ping and was kicked out before the final trip back, so I called it a night.

I think you found the guy who killed me and got my loot. I had a bizon with 7 mags on me. lol

That was very brave of you. Kudos!

I honestly would love a bit of sleep after work, but I look if I can make it into training. I will then not play as long tonight:nervous:
