Bastion is probably the worst map ever created in a multiplayer shooter.

The maps on these crucible games are TERRIBLE! Hunters are OP as hell on big maps like Bastion. Titans are OP as hell on small maps. Warlocks and crowd control are absolutely useless.

Vehicles? Forget it. You shouldn't be able to drive a pike up the stairs and into every little facet of the map. Whoever is on the pike is God. It's absolutely ridiculous.
I'm guessing you don't have any decent armor or weapons for the crucible yet. You can pretty easily destroy people on vehicles to the point that they are of not much of a threat to you and the titans and hunters really aren't OP on anything. At least not the way I play. I'm a warlock and am by no means great at online fps gashes but I do alright being the warlock in the crucible.

Once you get some decent guns you can take our the vehicles really quickly. They kind of become easy targets.

So, uh, now that I'm level 20 there's a lv.24 and 28 "Impossible" difficulty for this last mission on Venus.

How about... no.

I have the solution to your problem.
You just have to do like me: DO NOT play PvP. It's just rubbish, like any other PvP game (CoD, Battlefield, etc.).

I reached level 20 a little while ago, tried a heroic strike - thought 'hm, these guys are still just level 8, what's so heroic about this?' then encountered the level 22 guys hanging around the first objective. Also the matchmaking couldn't or didn't match me with anyone, so I don't know what that was about. In any case, it's pretty tough.

Hell no! "Just don't play" is not a solution to the problem. Bastion is freaking terrible. The other maps are fine even if you suck, but Bastion is awful no matter what.

How? Heavy weapons?

Maybe it's the matchmaking. Level 20 blade-dancers should not be able to run train on everyone single handedly. My team was getting raped by a single dude. How is a hunter going to survive a full magazine of scout rifle ammo to the face, and still be able to juggernaut his way into my face and stab me to death in one shot? That's lunch meat.

Also, nobody is playing co-op anything on PS3. I'm doing all these missions alone. It sucks. Maybe it's because I'm the only one playing on hard mode? I don't know what it is.

You either just unload on the vehicle with any gun or shoot the driver off. Shooting the driver off is fastest way to do it. The bigger tank like vehicles just use a heavy weapon or avoid them.

Headshots are a must too.
The easiest way to get kills before you get a good gun is to use a shotgun, stay inside smaller areas where you can shoot one then Melee. Or just don't jump in the crucible until you get some decent gear. Its like other MMOs. The PvP seems more geared to the end game and not to just jump right into it. The PvP on destiny isn't like online multiplayer in cod or battlefield. Its an extension of the story and coop mode. If you want the goods guns and stuff you have to earn them either in single player or through taking your beating in the crucible until you level up.

I like it like this. It makes the stuff you unlock Even more valuable to you. It's great when you get a really decent gun in story mode and can't wait to take it into the crucible to try out and all of a sudden your new gun you unlocked in the story is helping you get kills in the crucible.

What do you guys do with spinmetal? I have like 50 of them and no idea what purpose they serve.

You can take it to the Vanguard or Crucible Quartermaster and exchange them for reputation.

Not marks, I made that mistake earlier when I was lv. 15 or something - vanguard or crucible reputation levels up the quartermaster, allowing you to purchase better gear.

In addition to what T-12 said, some weapons have upgrades that require spinmetal.

You do get vanguard marks, just barely any. I think I got five when I did it (took 50 spinmetal to the quartermaster) and I somehow have 14 vanguard marks.

I took a pretty big risk earlier and spent all my glimmer on a Polar Oak shader, fortunately it turned out quite well (unlike the jester one I was given when I hit 20), I also bought the Honor of Blades emblem since I'm a hunter bladedancer-in-training - the super is like the bit from the end of The Sword of Crota, so that was a nice surprise. Definitely more fun than the golden gun!

And yeah, I just took some helium whatevers to the quartermaster and got 5 vanguard marks, some glimmer and some rank, but really not very much. It took me ages to find the 26 or so I needed to round out the 50... I did find a gold chest on the way, though, and a silver chest with ascendent energy in it.

They should just rename Venus "Death Trap"

It gets easier when you have better gear, believe me. Venus isn't even a problem for me anymore.

Now apparently, Heroic Strikes can't be done with matchmaking and have to be done with friends. Or by yourself. Where you'll die. Repeatedly.

I'm nowhere near doing the Venus missions. Still at Lvl 8. To be fare I've only put about 6 hours on it.

Anyone able to complete a match? Every single time I get kicked out for some reason...

Anyone able to complete a match? Every single time I get kicked out for some reason...

I've not tried the Crucible yet, but I was so close to completing a strike without dying (lv20 Nexus strike) and was then 'removed from this game whatever'. We had the boss down to about a quarter of his health and that was that. I had absolutely no ammo, though, except for my shotgun, but when you can't even think about getting near the guy (using the term loosely when you consider what the Nexus boss is) you're shooting, that's not much good. Towards the end I was just using my grenades and throwing knife so my DPS was... Minimal. Still, I hadn't died, so there's that.

Is it bad that I kind of just want to search for chests and helium filaments on the Moon rather than do any combat? Actually, maybe I should do spinmetal first. But yeah, can't be bothered to keep shooting stuff, I just want to peacefully scavenge so I can get pitiful amounts of Vanguard rank and, like, 2-3 marks. I've somehow managed to accrue about 49, maybe actually 51 Vanguard marks so far, I don't even know how but I'm pretty sure I can't be bothered to do 25 more strikes to reach my weekly 100. Also I get the feeling my brother will take his PS4 back with him on Friday. Does anyone know if PS4 progress syncs with the PS3 version?

If anybody is up for doing the strike missions (where you can only do it with friends) feel free to add me - priesty_lfc

I'm on quite often but not had chance to do any of them yet, I've only just hit rank 20

So it turns out PS4 progress probably does sync with PS3 so I might be downgrading soon. In other news, I turned in a bounty just now and got a choice of three exotic gear bounties, I picked the one to do the Moon strike and got a Depleted Hand Cannon, now I have to go and 'harvest the energies of the Hive on the Moon to activate the weapon'. I have no idea what that means, hopefully it just means killing 500 Hive?

Edit: Yep, I just had to kill 500 Hive. Now I have to kill 500 players with void damage in the Crucible, but apparently 'death will slow (my) progress'. So I guess for every death it subtracts from my kill count? Arse. I really want this gun already!

They certainly make you jump through hoops. As if the game isn't a big grind anyway.

I thought Hideo Kojima was a hack at making games. Bungie proved he's small time.

So many gameplay choices that work against the player.

Just hit 11 but having fun. Stumbled across a Wizard and Hive Hoard that my weapons were useless against, plus two hits from the Wizard and it was a death for me!

I also found out I suck big time in the Crucible and just got my hairy backside handed to me on a platter. I suppose that's to be expected when I'm Lvl 11 and they're Lvl 24.

Edit

I also need to hit the Raids too, I'll be able to play Thursday & Friday. PSN me if your up for it.

Well I just finished the story and I must say the last mission was an anti climax.

@Sprite in crucible the weapons all do the same damage (like all shotguns do the same as each other) so the level difference shouldn't effect you that much.

If anyone wants to add me for fireteam duties on story missions or strikes feel free. I'm currently level 21. I get on most evenings for a couple of hours and a bit more during the weekend. Always happy to jump in others fireteam or have them join mine.

PSN ID - dhandes

Ha! I must suck bad then :D

Does the Armour rating etc help or is it balanced like the weapons? I really need to play more and I won't let my lack of skill stop me, however if any of you end up on my team, quit because I'm next to useless.

Even with what I said above, I'll add you if that's ok and you can laugh at my ineptitude.

You have to be a level 26 or higher to do the raids and they don't start until Tuesday.

I don't think all the weapons are the same in the crucible either. There are some game modes that make them equal but none are open right now that do that. If they were all equal why would there be crucible handlers seeking really hard to speed crucible gear. I know that different auto guns I use do different damage.

I could be wrong but it seemed like a huge difference depending on what armor and weapons levels you take in. I think even the modes that make them equal only do away with the weapon and armor upgrades. The attack and armor levels still effect the characters. I don't think there's any mode that nerfs everything to being equal.

yes all players have 100 shield and 100 health. Currently i have 600 armour so if it wasn't balanced crucible would be way worse than it is now. Don't worry to much about it I have friends who are great in BF4 but suck at this as well.

@bevo ok didn't know that i do know they do less damage than in PvE though

Finally got to Vanguard level 2! That took aaages. Now I can go buy some legendary gauntlets. Also, strike playlists, I wish they wouldn't let it make you play the same one twice in a row and I also wish they just had more strikes to do.

Can someone tell me how the Crucible works, exactly? Like, to get a void type weapon would I have to find one in PvE mode, or do they give you stuff? Can I use heavy weapons whenever I want? I have a void machine gun and void rocket launcher but no elements on any of my primaries and no void specials.

Aaaand is there any way I can choose to do the Cerberus Vae III strike (it's a Mars one)? It's my last bounty - except for the exotic one - and even after doing about five strikes in a playlist I haven't gotten this one to come up yet.

Edit: A tip for anyone who hasn't worked it out yet, when doing patrol missions you get +10 Vanguard (or faction, if you wear one of their marks) rep for them all except for the ones whose icons are a star in a circle, you get +25 for those and they're just a small boss fight - that's the same as you get from a Tiger strike.

I'm off to try a Tiger strike actually, I can only collect 6 more Vanguard marks this week so I might as well see if I can get it from a single strike.

Ohh! I've got some work to do then. Unless I'm thinking of Strike missions? Ahh I can't remember now. I'll have a ganders next Thursday or Friday.
