Yes, Destiny is very good. Bungie made some fairly stupid mistakes with the game but the fun factor far outweighs the negatives, in my opinion.

Most reviews I have read are given it about 7/10 saying it is average.
I don't know how its even possible to review it yet. The raids don't start until Tuesday and that seems like what this game is going to be really geared around. The story is really short. Only takes about 8 hours or so to complete. This game is going to revolve around daily challenges raids and public events. It seems like a decent review is at least a few weeks away.

Finally got to Vanguard level 2! That took aaages.

Tell me about it. I'm still on level 1. :grumpy:

Luckily, my second legendary engram paid off - Zombie Apocalypse WF47. :D

I've been in three strikes where other people got legendary engrams, I've never even seen one... And yeah, there was a lot of grind getting that level up, I can't wait to hit level 3 so I can stop caring so much. Not that there's any great rush anyway since I want to buy the Dustwalker armour set ASAP, so far I've got the gauntlets and cape so I need 65 for the boots and torso (each) and 120 for the helmet, that's one piece of armour a week for three weeks and I'll have 85 marks left over. As far as I remember that's not enough to buy anything but the week after that I'll be able to buy a gun or sparrow. Strange coins, too; in two weeks (assuming I find no others and only get the weekly heroic ones) I'll be able to buy a piece of armour from that vendor guy. I have found seven this week, though, maybe I'll be as lucky next week.

So what is the consensus? Is destiny any good?

It's not fantastic. It's definitely not original. But it takes a lot of things from other games and brings them together into one product.

I don't think it's going to take off like a call of duty or halo phenomenon. It reminds me a lot of Left 4 Dead. You'll have fun playing it, but it's not anything spectacular.

It's alright if you have friends but if like me you don't then it's pretty average.

I wouldn't buy a console for it personally.

If anyone wants to add me for fireteam duties on story missions or strikes feel free. I'm currently level 21. I get on most evenings for a couple of hours and a bit more during the weekend. Always happy to jump in others fireteam or have them join mine.

PSN ID - dhandes

PS4?

If so cool, will add you at some point today.

I'm on most evenings too, just also got to L21 - Hunter

Ended up picking this up on Friday, but only managed level 8 so far. Didnt have much time to spend on it, but I am enjoying it. The majority of my time on it has just been spent exploring really, haven't even left Earth yet.

It isnt really hard, but it gets annoying if you let your enemies spread out, and when your playing solo its hard to avoid that. There was one mission on Earth that got me stressed though, it was the one when you go looking for that radio transmission at the ship yard. The stupid last scene was annoying with those big purple ball things, but what I found out is that they get stunned when you hit them with a Fusion rifle.. However, I didnt find that out till the last one was alive.

Whats up with the guys with the "??" in the caves and what not. Are they just so strong that my level 8 Warlock, just cant comprehend it?

Essentially yes. If they kill you, you'll notice on the top right of the kill screen it'll show their level.

I never got that far haha. First time I saw them I tried shooting them just to notice that nothing was happening, then got scared and ran off. I just run when I see them now haha.

Wise choice. Bungle stupidly made those monsters that are deemed 'too high' a level take no damage.

But face them when you're at a higher level and it's fine.

How is that good game design?

It could be to stop people with high level friends from farming experience. Or something or other.

It's to keep you from progressing too far, think of it as a softer version of a bomb-proof, bullet-proof locked door that your teammate has to open for you in Call of Duty or the instant 4-star rating you used to get in GTA when you tried to get to the next island before it wanted you to. What's wrong with that? If it were possible to kill those enemies at a low level you'd have a pretty easy time power levelling your characters if you wanted to. Not that it takes much to get to level 20, mind.

X1 version

This pic should give an idea of just how much I played with my brother and friends this week. Whew what a great epic Destiny bro week. I am guessing I put a solid 60 hours into this game.

My quick review of the game would be 8/10. While it is overall a great game, they made a few mistakes which have made some of the experience a bit frustrating. Needs some work for sure but it is only the first week.

Positives
1. The game runs fantastic in 30FPS with no frame rate drops ever. Truly feels like 60fps.
2. Drop in drop out works flawless
3. Stunning graphics and attention to detail
4. Boss battles are epic and very rewarding with a good team. Especially on the hard difficulties
5. Audio is spot on
6. Connection ran dang near perfect for the entire week. Only got dropped a few times on the X1
7. Strikes are easily the most fun part of the game. Truly enjoy those boss battles.

Negatives
1. Can only have 3 players in a squad. This is such a pain in the butt when you have multiple friends on. You cant even bring more than 3 friends into free roam unless you get lucky enough to end up in a server together. This limits friends to the multiplayer or the Citadel if more than 3 players are in a party. And honestly I don't care much for the unbalanced mp right now.
2. Can only create 3 characters
3. Really no story at all. I would guess the total cut scenes for the story are maybe 15-20 minutes? I didn't go in expecting much of a story but wow there really is nothing right now.
4. There is basically nothing in the Reef. Maybe something will come later but it is a wasted resource at this point.
5. There really is no trueskill matchmaking in the Crucible. If you are a 5 you can easily get destroyed by level 20s.
6. Getting past level 20 requires mostly luck for "Light" drops. Or you can grind with the gear from certain people in the Citadel (Tower). Basically sponsors you work for.
7. Events can be almost impossible if other players do not appear to help.
8. I don't care much for the multiplayer other than the big team battle or whatever it is called.

I heard there is a larger 6 player co-op "raid" coming Tuesday but might be restricted or limited to level 26 players. Not sure of all the details yet. 6 player co-op would be much better for sure.

This is Bungie so I know for a fact right now is only the very beginning of Destiny. I know it will improve every week with constant changes. As of right not I stay firm with 8/10 overall based on fun factor.

@CAMAROBOY69 ah great, you're probably the person to ask: do your Vanguard and Crucible rank and marks persist across characters or do they have their own? And can you move gear from one character to another? For some reason I was given some Titan gauntlets despite being a Hunter so I put them in the vault in case that's accessible by other characters on the same account. How about trading gear between players? I haven't seen an option for that yet but maybe I missed it.

1. Each character has their own marks and rank. Starting a new character really seems to restart almost everything.
2. Yes you can move gear from one character to another using the vault. But ONLY Vanguard to vanguard for example. Not vanguard to titan.
3. Cant trade gear from friends to other friends or other players. The gear you have is only for you.

Also keep in mind you ONLY get 3 characters right now. So I highly recommend making 1 of each character. Bungie needs to change this asap.

Give me 5 and I'll be there.

It doesn't run 60fps, it runs 30.
Oh wow even on the X1? I thought the X1 and PS4 were at 60fps? Sure feels like it compared to playing the 360 version. Regardless it runs insanely well on the X1 compared to how it felt on the 360.

Unless they changed it, I read that it's 30fps on all systems.

You are correct. I looked it up after your reply. Still surprises me because it truly feels like 60fps on the X1 compared to the 360 version.

Anyone find or earn any legendary gear yet? My brother and one of my friends have at least 1 legendary item each. I don't have any yet but I am working on building up one of my sponsors. The emo looking guy? Dead Orbit or something is the name of the group or sponsor?

I got a legendary level 20 drop for a Titan on my level 6 warlock. Don't ask. I scrapped it btw lol.

@Terronium-12 Sorry bud, had to go and get some food.

That strike is a ball ache, I wish there was a checkpoint after you kill each one at the end.
