Oh, is there an easier way to earn Vanguard marks/points? I do bounties and the Patrol missions, but I still don't even have rank 1, or does it really take that long?

It does take ages, yeah. I mentioned briefly before that when you're patrolling, if you see a task with an icon that's a star in a circle, it's a VIP mission and it'll give you 25 Vanguard rep instead of the 10 you usually get, and if you complete 50 of them the Grimoire card under Activities > Other Activities > Patrol Introduction says "Additional resources are now granted for completing City tasks in any destination." I hope that means that area's resource, because you get decent points for converting 50 of each at the quartermaster. I've only managed to do 29 of those so far.

Oh yeah, keep an eye out while patrolling for chests and resource items, then when you have 50 spinmetal, helium filaments, soul bloom (or whatever they're called) or relic iron, go to the quartermaster and buy one of the conversion items at the bottom. You get glimmer, Vanguard rep and marks for them, you can do the same with the Crucible quartermaster too.

I need to collect two more Hadronic Essence in order to Upgrade my helmet, but man its been so long since I've come across any gear that I can break down to obtain it. its so frustrating because its restricting me from leveling up the helmet any farther then that -.-

My gauntlets want six ascendant shards per defence upgrade now, I've only had seven in the last 40+ hours... If hadronic essence is the Warlock equivalent to sapphire wire or plasteel whatever, you'll rack that up eventually. I'm sitting on 238 sapphire wires right now...

What are the public events actually? The Orange/Blue markers that pop up during Patrols?

Yep. When things get a little blue... for lack of a better expression. :p

Yeah, I'm certain its because I've not even progressed far in the game story yet. I'm picking up all kinds of items, it's just never Warlock gear and mostly weapons, so its taking forever to get those last two haha.

Okay, so...

Says I've done 8 out of 50, but are the VIP ones aren't the same as Public Events right? Those are the mission markers themselves in Patrol? I've noticed a few missions have given 50 instead of 10.

And I have 39 Spinmetal, 29 Spirit Bloom and 30 Helium Filaments. So it's definitely worth collecting those when you seem them?

I also have A Mote of Light, Ascendant Energy and Shard, and a Strange Coin. Strange coins you need quite a few of to buy anything right? And they get used by the guy who shows up on weekends? I know Mote Of Light is used for the Speaker's upgrades, but they all cost at least 25, so it is just a crap shoot as to when you get them, or do strikes reward them? As for the Ascendant Energy and Shard, I don't know what they do at all.

I seen you guys are trading in resources like spin metal and bloom. Do not do that. Save all of it you can from every planet and don't trade it in for vanguard points or whatever. You will need that stuff to upgrade your legendary gear. You will need a lot of it too. I'm stuck now grinding away on mars trying to get enough relic to upgrade.

I repeat DO NOT trade in resources

Thats good to know, I've only done it once so far and it didnt really seem worth it.

Each upgrade costs 16 of whatever resource your class uses. Warlock uses spin metal and relic stone or whatever it's called in mars. I'm not sure what other classes user.

The resources go really really fast.

Oh that is indeed very good to know. Good thing I am a hoarder when it comes to RPG games. I save and collect EVERYTHING. Glad I didn't use any of it yet.

Meh, it's easy to get spinmetal and helium filaments, the other day I had 150 or more spinmetal saved up so I could trade them after the weekly reset. It's not really a big deal, though relic iron is apparently much harder to find.

I had a ton of spin metal too. You think it's easy to come by until you need 25 of them to do one upgrade and. You'll go through it way faster than you think.

I know I was happy when I seen spin metal is what I would need and then I started to upgrade and was out all of a sudden and was back on earth rambling around looking for spin metal and I never once traded in any that I found.

The numbers I'm saying are not exactly what's needed. I know I traded in a bunch of spin metal and and none having to trade in 16 relic iron for every damage upgrade on armor. The farther along a piece of gears upgrades you go the more types of items are required to do and upgrade. Some might require 4 different things to get one upgrade

Okay, yeah.

Team Balancing is non existent. It's easy to win when your whole team is Level 20 and up, but if you have even a couple low level, even under 20, you're screwed.

Good to know, I've been trading a ton of spirit bloom but that is by far the easist to collect.

Will start to stock pile my collection .

I accidently sold some house banners too, gutted.

@bevo which gear is this? I haven't had anything exotic yet but the worst I have is 16 helium filaments and 6 ascendant shards to upgrade my legendary armour at the end of it's tree, or 16 spirit bloom and 6 ascendant energy for the last three damage levels of my legendary scout rifle. That's not much, though relic iron is a different story. Then again I hardly ever go to Mars and only have 1600 kills there. I traded in 50 helium filaments an hour ago and have 22 in my inventory again, I wasn't even looking for it either, that's just what I found while doing a 6 patrol mission bounty.

Oh yeah, for some reason I was given two sets of bounties today, is that a thing? I thought it was just six Vanguard and six Crucible a day. Maybe it's because I switched from PS4 to PS3 when my brother wanted to play. Also, the PS3 version is remarkably similar to PS4, just a lower resolution, blurrier textures and simpler terrain models. It controls identically, the frame rate is solid (and more importantly the same 30fps as on PS4) and yeah, it's better than I was expecting.

You must be something besides warlock. With warlock you use allot of spin metal and relic iron.

I just fine think it's worth trading that stood for vanguard. You can get 100 vanguard in less than 10 minutes through a bounty. It takes hours to get 50 of any material by just looking for it. I would just advise anyone wanting to exchange material for vanguard to go online and see what their character will need one it's time to upgrade legendary weapons.

@bevo Yeah, I'm not suggesting people should go looking for resource items, but grab them whenever you see them when you're out on patrol and remember where you find them so you can make small detours here and there to have a look. And if you're a hunter there's no real reason to not trade them in as far as I can tell, all the items that require resource items to upgrade also require something else that's much harder to find as well so that'll be what's stopping you, not spinmetal or whatever.

Just started a Titan class, have my Warlock to 25. So far I dig the superpower, crazy strong! I will hoard the resources for future gear I upgrade. One thing is for sure, I absolutely hate PvP, yes its because I suck but I can't even grasp what is going on, and I thought COD was fast paced, pffffft! Oh well not a big deal yet.

We are still looking for some high ranked players to raid with. We are willing to do it almost any night after 9 pm est.

Hey everyone, I have a question:

Is it worth it to buy the PS3 version? Because I can't buy a PS4 yet.

;)

If you buy PS3 you can upgrade to the PS4 version when you finally get a PS4 (providing you get the digital version)

So yes. :)

They exist solely to be sold to the Cryptarch, they don't do anything else. Same goes for the silken codex, network keys and... Another thing often dropped by Vex majors (i.e. enemies with yellow health bars).

Yeah, definitely. Until January you get the PS4 version free with the PS3 version, and in terms of gameplay it's identical; I played about 40-50 hours on PS4 then switched to PS3 and it's actually a really great port, sure the graphics and resolution are worse but the frame rate is still solid and the game is the same. It also syncs your progress across platforms.

Really?

I remember in the beta when they opened the war cult section (to the right of the bounty guy) and you needed house banners?

I assumed the room will be reopened at some point but when, I have no idea?

This is exactly why this raid needs to be open to the public.

I plan to put some more time into Destiny over the weekend since I have 2 more new friends joining the game. Luckily I have one lower level 6 character I can use to play with them. Otherwise I would have to use my level 20 or 21 to play with them. At that point I would just have to lower my gear and guns so I could actually play on an even field with them. Bungie really need to allow us to make more than 3 characters. The entire obsession with 3 in Destiny boggles my mind. :dunce:

I'm up for playing this weekend. I got to level 17 from 13 last night pretty quickly, and I figure by saturday I should be above 20 depending on if I play today and tomorrow. If we play with your lower level friends I'll just start a new Guardian, good thing too, because I've been wanting to try out the Hunter.

My lowest level character is actually the hunter so we can learn together. My favorite character is still the Warlock.

Mine is as well, but to be honest, its the only one I've tried so far  I've always liked "magic" based characters in any game more then others though.

Same here. Oh the friend I mentioned that will be playing this weekend is actually a member of this site. His name is @DDastardly00 I just found out in another thread that he picked Destiny up last night. :)

Good, Maybe I can get @Frizbe. hes been inviting me but I'm either away or in a battle, and with no pause they could last forever. That said, by the time I finish off the enemies, I had forgotten haha :(

Yesterday was a good session for me. I managed to pick up alot of uncommon armor so I finally got all the Hadronic Essence I needed. Decided not to waste it on the armor though, as it was already outdated. Atleast I have more then enough now though.

Nice. I knew that once you got past level 14 you should start getting much better rare items. I just wanted it to be a surprise for you.

The other great news about @DDastardly00 is he is in the EXACT same time zone that you are in. (PST) So you two would probably be able to play together more often than I will be able to play with you. Especially during the week. :)

the only thing I can think of as why they didn't use matchmaking is because of how long they take and most people will take multiple sessions to finish it. Maybe they think that friends will be able to reunite to finish the raids and that people in random match making will not be able to play for 10 straight hours to beat it.

The way it sounds it doesn't seem like random matchmaking would work because of the time it takes to complete it.
You would think though that they would come up with a way around it.

10 hours? On average, thats about how long it'll take? Jesus haha.

Side note, where do you even access it?
