the only thing I can think of as why they didn't use matchmaking is because of how long they take and most people will take multiple sessions to finish it. Maybe they think that friends will be able to reunite to finish the raids and that people in random match making will not be able to play for 10 straight hours to beat it.

The way it sounds it doesn't seem like random matchmaking would work because of the time it takes to complete it.
You would think though that they would come up with a way around it.
We have not had any luck with restarting the strikes where we left off. If we do not finish the strike, we have to start from the beginning. Wonder if the raid is different?

Also is the raid really 10 hours or did we read your sentence wrong?

Lvl 23 won't cut it, check this out. That looks like it was damn tough to me!

After seeing that, 10 hours could be about right. 5,733 enemies. That is a LOT of enemies to kill. Sounds amazing. Wonder if they were just farming it or if that is really how many enemies there are to kill?

I never saw that, but there's this, so maybe it was a different type of banner?

I just got to Vanguard level 4 (only took 2500xp, not the 3000 you needed for level 3) and got a Dustwalker cloak (which I've already bought, but I suppose that'll happen) and two ascendant shards... Then I went to the Cryptarch, levelled up to rank 8, got a gift which contained a legendary engram and got my first exotic, a Thunderlord machine gun. That was a nice surprise!

Edit: oh yeah, it looks like the patrol VIP kills Grimoire bonus is bugged, I unlocked it earlier and I'm getting no additional drops or, well, anything at all other than the usual 10 or 25 Vanguard XP.

My bad, it was iron banners I was thinking of!

Very impressive how much ranking you done tho!

They exist solely to be sold to the Cryptarch, they don't do anything else. Same goes for the silken codex, network keys and... Another thing often dropped by Vex majors (i.e. enemies with yellow health bars).

Yeah, definitely. Until January you get the PS4 version free with the PS3 version, and in terms of gameplay it's identical; I played about 40-50 hours on PS4 then switched to PS3 and it's actually a really great port, sure the graphics and resolution are worse but the frame rate is still solid and the game is the same. It also syncs your progress across platforms.

Whoa, that sounds great! I might buy it at the end of next month. :)

I guess the way it works is that it saves for the team leader. So if you start again later and the same person is the team leader it will continue where you stopped.

I did say 10 hours. I'm not sure what the avg time is but when they let some people tryout the raid before it released there were 5 teams try it and none completed it. One team supposedly played for 17 hours and didn't beat it. Bungie has said not everyone will is going to be able to beat the raids.

Now if people go online and there starts to be strategy guides for it and walk thoughs you would think it might cut down the time some but from everything I've read it will take hours to beat a raid.

I can see it taking a long time too. Just opening the door to it is pretty crazy. 3 of us couldn't do it and it seemed like even with 6 it would be hard. We were trying to do one zone at a time with 2 of us to see what it will be like with 6 people and we couldn't hold one zone long enough Even with 2 people.

I really think people who haven't tried it are underestimating how hard this raid is. Wait until you try it to see if you think random people without being in a chat could even think about beating a level that could last hour and hours.

It would be nice to have the option of matchmaking but I can't imagine it working just because of the length of the raids unless they would let people jump into others raids that have already started or were loading up from a save point.

I purposely have avoided all videos so I don't see spoilers. So I am sure you are right about how we are underestimating the difficulty of this raid. Its great news that if the Team Leader saves, that's where the raid continues. That's very motivating news. I am going to try whatever I can to get my character to 23 over the weekend so I can at least SEE the beginning of this raid.

I'm going to try to make it to 23, but I have a long way to go from 17 haha. If I manage it, I'll hit you up as I'm interested in checking this out. My GF is going to hate me these next two days.

She is going to drawn wieners all over you while you sleep. [inside joke]

She already does that  I'll just have to do more household chores haha, if not I wont hear the end of it.

EDIT: Actually, not more. All of them. We usually split them off, but I already know how this is going to end.

Well If you see me @ImaRobot I'm down to do whatever I am only level 19 right now and still on Venus slowly working through the story. Of course If anyone else on the One wants to play I'm down unless it's the Crucible in which case 🤬 the Crucible

For sure man. I feel bad, this is the second time I missed your message :(. I'm level 17 right now, and I'm on the last mission for the Moon. I still have to do the strike mission on there.

What've you found to be the best/quickest way to get your Vanguard level up Neema?

My usual approach is:

- Accept the most general bounties first thing when you log in,
- Start the daily heroic and hopefully complete something,
- Hand in anything completed, accept something else, go to a Patrol to finish off any 'without dying' bounties, Overcharge, Cleansing Light or One For All,
- Accept the remaining bounties, at this point these will usually be strike boss targets or story mode ultras with the heroic modifier,
- Do the story mode ultra targets first,
- Start the Tiger strike playlist, play until bored,
- Do some Crucible or Patrol for a while, find some more resources to trade in (I can usually find 15-20 per Patrol session on Earth or The Moon),
- Trade in resources whenever possible - until you reach the weekly mark cap, at which point I trade them in at the Crucible quartermaster instead to maximise their usefulness,
- Play more strikes until bored, if I have a target from a strike that can be selected from the map I'll usually do that but not all of them can be chosen specifically and have to be randomly initiated in a playlist.
- Pretty much just repeat from there, really.
- Find people to do the weekly heroic with when necessary.

The problem is that strikes earn at most 25XP which is the same as a single VIP Patrol mission which can often be completed with a single bullet! The trade-off is that strikes give you a lot of XP (for motes of light), you can find engrams while playing and you get given one or two items at the end which can include legendaries, maybe even exotics, as well as strange coins and maybe also motes of light (I think I had one once but I can't remember for sure), and VIP missions are harder to find anyway, though sometimes you can find one after the other and do a string of four or five. It's rare, though.

It turns out that something like 0.2% of players have reached Vanguard rank 3 so it does take a long time, I have the highly dubious 'benefits' of being unemployed and having a girlfriend who is out of the country right now so I have a lot of spare time at the moment and nothing to do (I do study but college only started this week, no work to do yet)! I also tend to dislike PvP so I've literally been doing nothing but PvE, until the night before last that is.

I'm pretty sure I know what the answer will be, but does anyone here want to help me with my Thorn bounty? I need two level 26 players (I'm not even there yet myself) to join me on a heroic level 26 Moon strike, but instead of killing the target at the end we have to hold out against wave after wave of enemies, potentially for a long time, until Xyor, the Unwed (a wizard) shows up. Then we kill it and I get a sweet new gun, you get... Potentially nothing useful. As I said, I'm level 25 (I think I'll probably level up if I can upgrade my armour once, or if I buy an exotic piece from Xur on the weekend) so I'm not looking to do it just yet, but I need help with that.

Do you get any Vanguard level points for doing crucible?

No, Vanguard is basically shorthand for PvE, Crucible is PvP stuff only. Having said that, if you like Crucible more there's the Crucible equivalent of the Vanguards and the quartermaster which probably works the exact same way and I imagine would award you with all the same stuff I got for the Vanguard ranks, but the pool of legendaries is different.

No I don't like the crucible, it's just that you menitioned it in your previous post.

But late for me sorry, going off in a sec. Got to be in work for 4.50am.

Exotics are rarer.

I'm pretty ecstatic when I get a Rare item, even a pos Shotgun.

Hello, exotic bounty. :D

Ooh, which one? Apparently there's one where you need to get a kill/death ratio of 25 in one round of Crucible, I hope I never get that one because I know I'll actually try to do it.

So I went to try and round out my 33 helium filaments to trade them in at the Crucible quartermaster, I ended up doing three public events, I found five rare (I forget their actual name) engrams too. And I managed to find a total of 100 helium filaments, so that was nice. Also I found another player with the same shader and sparrow as me, yellow and blue. We danced for a bit and then I got disconnected.

Shattered Memory Fragment; Pocket Infinity fusion rifle. The other two would have involved me venturing into the Crucible for and I just didn't want to be bothered.

I was looking at the list for that one, it seems pretty doable and that gun sounds awesome, I want one. Not as badly as I want this Thorn, though, I don't know where to look for people who are also trying to do the same bounty but maybe they'd be of some use to me. If I could find them.

Ranked up the Cryptarch again, got two legendary engrams as a gift, one contained a level 16 rare helmet and the other an exotic piece of chest armour... For a Warlock. In the vault it goes.

So I had an excellent night in Destiny. Paired up with 4 other friends and went into the multiplayer for at least 3 hours playing only the 6 vs 6 mp matches. My very first game online last night online I unlocked boots with light that put me instantly from 21 1/2 to 22 1/4. Then about an hour later got a better helmet which put me around 22 1/2. I was also the MVP almost every single game. Just had a great time and as always, helps when you have a team of communicating friends. Also helps being a much higher level online compared to going in as a lower level. Once you are a higher level, online is much easier.

I can also confirm 100% you need to be level 23 to enter the raid. Which I plan to enter this weekend for sure. I will just grind away on the multiplayer and turn in bounties for my sponsor. Back enjoying the game again. Cant wait to check out the raid this weekend. :)
