DiRT Rally 2.0 Hands-On Preview: Magical Stage Design, Tarmac Physics Need Work

Wow, a thread full of bickering and personal insults back and forth over a ****ing game. The sim community really turns grown men into children.

:banghead:

There are legitimate criticisms of Codemasters, as a developer and as a publisher, being levied in this thread. @Pfei and his posts are proof of that.

Everything else, however, is true. It goes to show just how easily the sim racing community wants to alienate others in an air of hostility.

If we're doing this then this sim guy is 29 going on 30 very soon.

You know what, I just took the Escort Cosworth Grp A and the MK2 Golf for a spin in Spain and both these cars felt really good. The Escort wasn't slidey at all and you could be really neat and precise with it. You could absolutely provoke it with the throttle in slower corners, and when I start to lose grip it's when I come in too fast.

I was pleasantly surprised how it felt on tarmac tonight. It's def a step up from both DR and D4.

I can't comment on the Porsche we've seen in the video as that car is not in our build.

Despite all the bickering and positive and negative comments about 2.0 I am genuinely excited about it, not enough to pull the trigger on a preorder just yet, but really looking forward to release day and reviews.
Personally, even a marginal improvement over the original will make me very happy because DR is so good.

Amazing to see we're all about the same age. 47 for me, grown up on dirt roads in NZ with local car clubs in the blood. Took my chances on pre ordering the deluxe DR2, even after still recovering from the Dakar 18 burn. Here's hoping the physics are primo.

Don't think I will get DR2. Just so frustrating. In DR I can't finish this stage in Greece without falling of the edge. So annoying :mad:

@bogani Did you join the DiRTY Gossip Discord channel? There are reports on Race Department and Reddit that DLC 1 contains only rally locations. Any truth in that?

Would be great news if true.

I can't seem to find the Discord chat when I'm on my phone which is strange.

Would def be great if we got 3 rally locations. It would make sense as they say 6 locations split between rally and RX but previous sources said they would complete the RX calendar which would mean the 4 RX circuits that are left out. If there are 3 rally locations that would mean that we will end up missing one single RX circuit in the end and that would be... weird?

Did some more tarmac this morning and it seems to be quite car dependant how it feels. Some feels really good but there are some strange ones.

I've not come across a single bad pace note so far btw! I thought I did a couple of times but in the end it turned out Phil was just way ahead of me and I didn't listen enough :D

It appears to have come from Christina, the social media person, who is currently at the Galway rally in Ireland with their rally consultant Jon Armstrong. So there's a high probability it's true. With the second dlc potentially completing the RX with 2 tracks and 1 more rally.

First DLC will be unveiled next week.

So the DLC is not going to be in the pre-order Delux version?

It’s not a discussion about DiRT if no personal attacks are thrown around! /s

Jokes aside, really excited to see the DLC announcement next Tuesday. It is a bit of a shame that we will only be getting 2 long rally stages per country, but the additional locations should (hopefully) make up for this.

As much as I want to drive that gorgeous DS 21, I went through multiple posts and social media and decided the postphone the purchase. The more I thought of it the more I went back to my initial impressions and opinion. The car just messed way to much with my head :banghead::lol: to see things straight. Have landed with both feet on earth again :odd: What I do instead is follow its progress over the coming weeks/months. I want to see how it will be supported and I would like to know all the content before actually buying the seasonpass (what was I thinking:rolleyes:). It is €70 for a game which a) still makes me doubt and b) for which I don't know its DLC content. I also will wait to see how you guys here are going to recieve the title and reading your first impressions. Meanwhile I'll finish up Dakar '18 , WRC 7 and will go back to Dirt4 to simply give it another go.

Maybe another dance with my daughter in the château as well :D

This Clio will not be in DR2, but to up the spirits here I just leave this:

It was featured in one of the WRC games by Evolution on the ps2.

Racedepartment
................. There is much to be excited about, but something to be worried of too.

Looking at the trailers and bits of gameplay released so far, I could not help but notice some pretty evident compromises still made in the physics department in order to make the game at least lenient towards the casual driver, but taking away realism from the hard-core player...........
:ouch:

Do I need to be worried?

Impossible to say realistically. He says from trailers and bits of gameplay but doesn't give any examples of where the compromises are?

The people who have played it so far have been impressed and that includes some die hard sim nuts. It's very difficult to tell until we get it in our hands and compare it to our own expectations.

Also, harder doesn't mean more realistic :D
