Fake
FTO LM car
Yo momma's chest

how do you know FTO LM is fake... i seen a real picture of a FTO race car... dunno if its the same thing...

ROll

There are race/tuner cars that look simmilar to the LM cars (Altezza, RX-7, S2000, Impreza, FT0 and Camaro), but they are no way based on them.

Although if you get a yellow Impreza LM, you can kinda pretend it's that crazy Jun WRX.

The FTO race car IRL is probably FF and doesn't have a magical 600bhp unknown engine.

The Camaro Race Car looks a lot like the SCCA Trans-Am Camaro (black-and-white scheme).

The F1 cars are fairly true to life in design and stats; however, the paint schemes are similar, even though the color choices aren't even close. The names of the chassis and engines are hidden, for licensing purposes.

And the FTO LM is about as real as Sonic the Hedgehog. It may as well be the Official Mascot of Gran Turismo.

Yeah, but I doub't it was actually modeled from that car. Same with the Impreza LM. There was an uncanny resemblence to the HKS Altezza to the Altezza LM.

I think the mascot car has always been the Castrol supra, featuring heavily in artwork and the intros of the GT series games.

Well to me anyway, it makes sense.

The FTO LM was first created in GT1, Mitsubishi was planning a 4wd turbocharged version of the FTO and KY thought it would be nice to make a 4wd turbo race car FTO, the real 4wd FTO was cancelled before it got off the drawing board but KY's FTO has survived.

Hmm, forgot about that one. But the Castrol Supra's real, and the FTO's still fake.

But a damned good fake, at that!

The Impreza Rally Car (with rectangular headlamps) has also survived 3 versions of Gran Turismo, even though there was no rally racing in GT1.

Except... they aren't. They may appear to be the same, but they aren't, in fact, the actual cars. For a start, the names are off - the F094/S should be an FW16 (help me out here daan).

The P001 and P002 are in fact hybrid F1 cars - their bodies are the same as the F094/S and F688/M, but they borrow nosecones from elsewhere.

Driftster: The Nismo Skyline LM is the road version, so not a race car at all...

So the list ought to read:

Real:
Toyota TS020 GT-One
Nissan R390 GT1 LM
Mazda 787B
Jaguar XJ220 GT
Tickford Falcon XR8
Dodge Team Oreca Viper GTS-R
Chevrolet Corvette C5-R

Subaru Impreza 1999 WRC
Mitsubishi Lancer EvoVI WRC
Lancia Delta Integrale HF RC
Ford Escort RS Cosworth WRC
Ford Focus WRC (Bah! Humbug!)
Citroen Xsara Rally Car
Suzuki Escudo Pike's Peak (how could we forget? :D)

Fake (with possible real-life basis):
Pagani Zonda LM Race car
Mazda RX7 LM car
Honda S2000 LM car
Subaru Impreza LM car
Mitsubishi FTO LM car
Chevrolet Camaro Race car
Subaru Impreza Rally Car Prototype
Mitsubishi Lancer EvoVII Rally Car Prototype
Vauxhall Calibra Touring Car
Vauxhall Astra Touring Car
P001
P002
F094/S
F094/H
F090/S
F688/S
F687/S
F686/M

F094/S = F094/H = Williams FW16-Renault
F090/S = McLaren MP4/5B-Honda
F688/S = McLaren MP4/4-Honda
F686/M = Williams FW11-Honda
F687/S = Lotus 99T-Honda

Before you claim the Lotus F1 car should be a Lotus "Special", please note that the Lotus F1 Team had almost nothing to do with Lotus cars after founder Colin Champman died in late-1982.

If the F094/S is a Williams FW14 (which it isn't - it's an FW16), why is it not CALLED "Williams FW14", or even "FW14"?

Why does it lap - even in the hands of a numpty like me - 10+ seconds quicker than the FW16 could manage?

The cars may be based on the real-life counterparts, but are not the same car - hence their presence in the "Fake (with possible real-life basis)" column.

In that list you seem to be forgeting the 3 german touring cars: the Calibra, the Astra and the CLK.

i believe they are also based on real racing cars

I would imagine that Williams would not give the licensing to Polyphony Digital which is why the cars not named with the actual names but you are right about the 001 and 002, since I havent been around the game in a long time I forgot that the 001 had the slanted nosecone...:banghead:

Ahh, but it's not the same car.
The one in GT1 was either a 98 or 97, the one in GT2 was definitely a 99 (Looked allot like the 22b, uh I have a feeling you could win the older one in an endurance?) and the one in GT3 is either a 99 or 2000 model.

I'm sure there was a privateer car running in the WRC (at the time when the focus ran that Martini livery) that had those markings. Mind you it could have been the rally GB?

I can't remember.
