well...all radio stations but eMad Pirate Radio - 3500 songs in the list and growing. I just need to reconfig my router a few more times but I'm streaming quite often anyways

99.1 WHFS used to be a great station 10 years ago. Best commercial station I ever heard, playing all manner of what they called "modern rock" which meant everything that normally wasn't played on other commercial/classic rock stations. Then came the rise in popularity of so-called "alternative" music, and Clear Channel needed to get their hands on a likely candidate as quickly as possible, so they bought up HFS and now it sounds like every other "alternative"-40 station: the same 20 songs 20 times a day. Alternative to nothing.

That's why I only listen to college radio stations.

Oh God, yes. I especially hate it when songs that I liked and knew about 3 months beforehand get bashed into the ground by the "new hit music" stations. That's why I don't listen to the radio.

they get paid to do it. the houses (warner, EMI, so on) pay the radio stations to play their artist's new singe once every two, three, four hours. at least this is a common practice here in mexico. its called payola. Im sure it is everywhere else.

Payola is standard everywhere. Congress did something about it once, but now the labels just go through third party agents to do the payola thing.

I rarely listen to it now, but yes they do repeat songs too often... I wish there were more variety like XM(don't have) or Streaming.

To answer the question, yes. Radio does repeat constantly. Espically a pop station in my area. The repeat their songs every 3 hours. I swear to you. I am not joking.


If I ever do listen to radio, It would be 105.1 WTOS which they play good classic rock. Zeppelin, ACDC etc. And some other good modern rock.

Yes, they make me dislike some songs they are played to much, thats why i dont listen to the radio to much anymore other than in a car with no cd player.

The radio stations over here in NZ do too. They especially repeat Hey Ya by Outkast.

I heard that "Get Low" song by Lil John everyitme I got behind the wheel and turned on my radio. It gets old listening to my CD's but I quickly found out that even they offer more variety than my local radio stations.

Radio is totally teh suck. They repeat loads of songs (usually the ones I hate), play loads of commercials (all of which I hate), and the DJs are generally morons.

I have to keep searching for new stations, because every time I find a new station it gets bought out and/or ****ed over and I end up not being able to stand it any more.

The BBC have some quite good digital-only channels, which I stream from time to time. Might have to buy a DAB tuner with my next overtime cheque.

Well if a radio station wants to stay popular, they don't have much of a choice other than to appeal to the masses and play nonstop Outkast, Simple Plan, Staind, 50 Cent...etc.

...which is all only popular because radio stations play those same songs all the time. Trust me, there is room to stay popular outside of an 8-times-a-day rotation for the playlist.

Zrow: 10 years ago, when the Daily Feed was still on HFS, I lived on the Eastern Shore. Then I moved to Delaware, but I still worked in Harford County. So I was a regular listener throughout the whole sale issue and the subsequent demise of all the cool airstaff (except Riggs, but even he got brought into line and turned into a clone).

I remember when they used to play stuff like Plastique Bertrand and MC 900 Foot Jesus and all manner of other cool oddball stuff.

Funny, I live in Harford County. Anyway, they basically all suck now, except for Rob Tim. I listen to mostly 98 Rock now, but only because of Mickey and Amelia at night (it was Mickey and Jen, but Jen went to HFS). Oh, and Kirk, Mark and Lopez of course.

Where do you live in Harford?

I worked for about 5 years in Havre de Grace, as an architect. I designed the Bel Air Fire Company main station in town, and I worked on the Library team. I also did the big shopping center and Mars supermarket just south of Edgewood, among other things. Then the company got bought and they closed the office and moved everybody to Towson, which I didn't want to do, so I quit. At the new job, I worked on Ripken Stadium, and no, I didn't get to meet Cal, but I did talk to him on the phone once.

I topped my Neon out at about 134-5 on that stretch of I-95 above the Susquehanna one night...
