You gotta have the dot, otherwise the line will get lonely. :D
Anyways, a undotted "i" might just end up looking like a "l" depending on how your writing looks.

They don't look like l's, they look like undotted i's. Notice there there size difference between the l and the i. There's no way people can mistake them. Therefore, the dot is unnessacery (sp?)

I said it might end up looking like a "l" depending on how you write. With some peoples writing it can be hard to judge certain letters. :)

My writing is very neat, and I take pride in that. So yes, of course I dot my i's. Only problem is, I write very, very small. I can fit more on a page writing than typing.

Ironically you just proved yourself wrong, as you forgot to take into account that with the right font size and the right printer, you can probably far outdo your handwriting capabilities for tininess (and neatness).

I dot 'em, 'cos if you don't people will think it's either a non-capital L or a capital i. :dunce:

Wrong.

An undotted i isn't the same size as a capital I or an uncapital l. The undotted i is half the size, so there's no mistaking it

Yes - I never knew there were people who didn't.

But, as many do, my dot is sometimes formed above the subsequent letter.
