Smoking is stupid and potentially deadly. It smells bad, and stains teeth and fingers and burns things.
I smoke.
I smoke outside and am fully aware of my status as a second class citizen because of it. I never, ever, offend with my smoking.
But one thing I read in this thread that is stupid is how some guy was criticizing smokers for doing anything healthy like it won't matter solely because they smoke. It's like saying every smoker ought to just commit suicide now.
Different people paricipate in different risky acts. Some end up dead, some beat the odds.
Point of fact: As a smoker I can out-hike and out-climb many nonsmokers.
I guess the thing that gets me is the witch-hunt attitude toward smokers. They are portrayed as somehow subhuman which is wrong. America is a free country (or at least calls itself that while it slowly becomes a dictatorship under King Bush II) and that simply means you are allowed to mind your own business.
I love when I am outside on a windy day and some nitwit does some big, dramatic, fake cough because I am smoking when the smoke is a mile away from them. This is an example of people needing to mind their own business. Ever see pounds of soot come out of an exhaust pipe? Ever see your city from a distance and witness the cloud of pollution hanging over it? Ever sray an aerosol can? Ever been made sick by somebody's perfume? Every time you turn the key on your car you hurt more lungs than any smoker ever did.
I can't believe how mindlessly brainwashed people are when it comes to so-called "heath." It boils down to an aesthetic issue. If people were truly concerned with anyone's health they would be tackling different issues, not smoking. Smoking is more of a personal decision than a public heath issue.
I'd love to see what would happen if all the revenue from tobacco sales was gone. Then they'd comming after you for something. The picture is bigger than what smells bother you.
If you don't like smoking don't smoke. And mind your own business.
A tall order for a "nation of finks."
