Well that’s a bit of a bolt out of the blue. I have the build which has just been released as I was an early backer and tester.

Hopefully they can get some more interest and get some more steam behind the game.

Edit: reading it again, seems they're just releasing the old build, not actively developing it. Oh well, something is better than nothing.

Edit again: it's £8 on Steam. It's fair to say I'm confused by this.
It does mention transferring the game to a new programmer and setting up this release for workshop support, so I presume that's going to compensate for that work. The way it appears, to me at least, they're going to basically turn this version over to the modders to do what they will with what's there, and then move on to making a newer and better incarnation of the game.

I‘m so glad this game still has a chance. I was very excited when it was in development but disappointed by the lead dev’s unprofessionalism. Hopefully all the backers on KS have been refunded by now. Wonder what Chase Petit is up to now after he obliterated his reputation...

We didn’t get a refund.

Ok thread from the dead time.

Just had an email and here is what they say….

2026 - Drift Stage Steam Release, Current Status:

Drift Stage 0.5.0.4 – 2026: Priority Steam Release.

While this update is foundational in nature – and presents a number of bugs that are affecting the functionality of certain modes – the necessity to release this update called for a compromise in functionality, as the need to address the security vulnerability, and provide an overall test run of the new uploading pipeline established.
For current bug reporting and fixes, please see the forums – or file a direct report

NOTE: This is currently only a WINDOWS build.

As this version is a special case, and needs to be released as soon as possible – even with bugs and incomplete features. The Unity security vulnerability needed to be patched. The controller issues, related mainly “DirectInput” and “XInput – Microsoft’s primary controller interface, used on Windows 7/8/10 – which has been depreciated and replaced. This required substantial attention and is still being debugged.

- Unity Version Update: 2016 >> 2021.
  • Added “Gameplay Options” menu option to disable menu particle effects.
  • Added experimental option to toggle between physics mode (Arcade[alpha] / Physics).
  • Added alpha support for “Mobile Joypad” phone application (QR codes. Smart-phone controller plugin).

Drift Stage 0.5.0.4 Bugs:
The Unity 2021 updating process caused a lot of features to require overhaul in order to function correctly. Some features are still being sorted out and are disabled in this update. Other features, like controller support - critical to the operation of the game, needed a lot of work and troubleshooting. We believe most of the current bugs with the menus are related to the new controller implementation. This is actively being debugged and has already been fixed in some circumstances.

Drift Stage 0.5.0.4 Bug List:
  • Speedometer graphics temporarily disabled due to scaling and position bugs.
  • New audio track “Touge Run” can be selected, but no audio plays; audio may play during load screen.
  • Car engine audio persists on pause.
  • “Photo-mode” deactivated temporarily due to soft-lock.
  • Workshop may have steam-integration issues causing errors that don’t appear in the functioning part of the code.
  • Soft-locks may occur after changing physics type in “Gameplay Options” menu.
  • Decal editor loads, but will encounter soft-lock in decal editing menu. Likely controller related.
  • Mobile Joypad QR codes load before the whole scene, can’t be hidden (temporary for convention use).

Never thought this would come back ever. Great news. I don't remember it even being purchasable on Steam, do I really have to buy after backing?
Not sure, hopefully they’ll sort out backers. For now I’m just happy they’re back at it after 3 years.

Agreed, I'd probably back it again if they go for a round 2 anyways. I'm hopeful they get far enough for online multiplayer this time (and/or 4 player local).
