me personally can't race without drifting and that's a problem cos by the second or third lap my tires are down to the rim, so if any one has any trick, cheat, hint on how not to waste tires please tell me.

Brake earlier!

Seriously, drifting is dirty big fun but it's extremely hard on tyres, and unless done skillfully is generally slower than 'grip' driving.

The secrets to grip driving:
- do all braking in a straight line
- follow the correct line through a corner
- ease in power gently so as to avoid wheel spin and over/understeer

Your procedure when approaching a corner should be:
- ensure you're on the outside of the track
- brake sufficiently to reduce speed to cornering speed
- turn in
- once past the apex start to feed in the power to accelerate away (I tend to be slow in fast out, so I personally accelerate before the apex).

Yeah, I agree with vat_man, you just need to be smooth throughout the race to get good tire wear. Drifiting is great fun if you can control it, and on the races that don't have tire wear theres no reason you shouldn't do it if you can still win the race, but while your sliding your not getting all your power onto the tarmac. Slower into the corner, keep the speed constant through the corner, and once at the apex, start re-applying the power gently until the car is pointing straight again, then go for it! The tire wear is far less, and if you get it right, your lap times should improve as a result :D

In the GT series, the sounds of the tyres screeching is actually a pretty good guide to when you're hurting the tyres.

Tyre smoke is a sign you're killing the poor fellas.

Well it's definitely safer that way! (:

With the DS2 controller my approaches tend to be a bit jerky, with a couple of breaking points. The key to cornering, like vat_man pointed out, is to break while you're still in a strait line. If you can get the car down to a managable speed before you turn the wheel, it'd cruise around the corner like it was meant to - without any wheel spin.

If you brake before the corner enough, you should make the turn fine. If you don't brake enough, you will start to turn and still be on the brakes. That will cause understeer and general instability in the car, thus sending you to the unknown.

i know i should brake before the turn but i can never tell when is soon enough or maybe i just have a problem in my eyes 'cause when i notice i have to brake i'm already drifting (controled drift of course)

Well look around the track for little things that you can time your braking to. I use signs like at Laguna Seca, and the 100M signs at Rome and Toyko are just a couple of examples. I discovered I must brake real early for the RUF RGT in TT10. I already don't like that car!!

well it all depends. Drifting in f1 cars is cool. but i really dont know about lap compariosons

I tend to drift more
You can keep more speed through a turn if you do. Only problem is it wears the tires. But lap times are pretty much the same. And it make for some really cool replays.

I think that a close combination of the two is excellent for most all the races. Maybe not the f1's. I found that in the Apricot hill (Speedster enduro) braking the rear end loose at the very beginning of the hairpin gave me around an extra second in the lap.

What this amounted to was being able to exit the corner 10 MPH faster than the AI, and make up multiple car lengths if behind.

However Drifting is much like Giant Slalom skiing (been there, done that). It's a micro thin line between "In control" and "Out of control" It can make major differences in lap times, and Time trial/Test Licenses

The best thing to do is compare your speeds in every turn. Which ever method is faster stick with it. Some are faster by drifting and some are not. What ever works best.

I can see the brake disks glow on my compy of the game?
Ive watched my complex string TT enough times. Try it in a reeeeealy powerfull car on grand valley brake really hard on the first corner and they do light up a lovely orangey yellow

Also when u burn out the heat up. But only if u have a +1000hp car w/o TSC and u hit the gas, then after ur wheels start to spin hit the brake. Ur wheels will continue to spin but u wont move. And ur wheels light up like it was chritmas.
