Hey guys have you guys seen this new sensation that is sweeping R/C cars! Yokomo has put out a line of R/C cars that only drift! I think its crazy, I just recently bouhg tone and it is my second life. Anyone have or know of this?

I've been into rc cars for 7 years, so this kind of topic is right up my ally :) What's cool is that you can do this to virtually any rc touring car. all you have to do is fit the right size pvc on the rims.

I saw a thread about how to do this on one of my rc forums.

by the way, this is my first post on this forum. 👍

well welcome to Gtplanet then qube. I have a gas powered buggy and im eventually going to try to drift with it by putting pvc over the rims

You can drift with any RC car, it's all in the car setup and technique. I drift my $20 Fast & Furious NSX regularly.

Also, I think $300 RC cars (ala Yokomo, or about all other gas powered cars) are stupid.

It all depends on your level of skill and precision. I've never seen RC cars do any linked drifts, or really long drifts, so I'm doubting it can be done in any car. Basically all you have to do to a cheap RC car is tape the rear tires (On my NSX I switched the front and rear tires since the rears were wider), and possibly add extra batteries.

I wouldn't recommend any of the F&F Wal-Mart cars for serious RC drifting, though, as they can only really drift in one direction, due to the steering controller and motor both being on the same side, making it do better when turning that way.

I should be getting an X-Mods soon, and I'm sure that it will be sufficiently badass for drifting, so I'd probably recommend one of those. Or, if you have a whole lot of money and nothing else to spend it on, go ahead and get one of the expensive ones, but I've yet to see results good enough to make me want to go spend all the extra money on one.

and their are stupid because? I was into drifting with my n4tec for awhile, but I got a Traxxas Revo and I had to put my tec on the shelf for awhile, this thing kicks ass 👍

I think RC cars that cost that much are stupid because, well, why? Why spend that much on an RC car? I bought a real car in good working order for less than that. I'll never figure out the point in it.

they really arnt that stupid after you get the engine tuned there a blast and are also very fast. I have a buggy and man I dont think its stupid. I like the looks on the little kids faces when they want to race a tyco R/C against my gas powered buggy

First off spending a lot of money on a R/C is not stupid. I got a TA-04A that I bought for about 200 plus all the performance crap add another 300 bucks. So there about 500 bucks wrapped up in a car, that I can take to the R/C track and bet stupid kids that I can beat them. Hell I can turn about a 100 bucks when I go.

But now to the drift thing. If you are going to drift your R/C car go do it in some parking lot or your driveway. The last time I was at the track, it was a our door pavement track, but so little punk was trying to drift his car and he spun out right in front of me and I smacked in to him aweful hard. Broke the front suspension to hell, conecting arms were bent and I stripped the servo.

Was I ever pissed, I had a little talk with the little punk and he ended up running off crying to god knows where. This had been the second time this had happened. Now I has to rebuild a lot of my car, which will take about 150 bucks and a whole day to get it back set up.

Yea, why exactly are you bashing the good r/c cars, it's a hobby, I don't know if I would consider driving around in a cheap 300 dollar car a hobby.

Try driving a good 300 dollar one and tell me it's not more fun than driving around in your car. By the way the revo is pretty cool, just don't have the money for one.

I'm not bashing the cars. I'm bashing the decision to pay that much for one of them. R/C cars are one of my main hobbies and I'd never even consider paying that much for one. Hell, I didn't even pay full price for my X-Mods Supra (And I've had it for a day, and I've decided X-Mods are awesome) because I think $50 is too much to pay for a car. Seriously, it's like Blazin said himself. He $150 to replace parts on an R/C car? I can replace things on a real car for that price.

Not that any of this has anything to do with the original topic, though. So let's get back to it. My Stage 2 motor kit is on the way, but I figure in order to drift an x-mods properly, I'll need to lock the rear up, get a carbon driveshaft, some super stiff springs, and tape the tires. I've found packing tape works the best, it provides the best level of slickness, and it doesn't heat up and get grippy as quickly as other tapes. I recently discovered the existance of aluminum tape, which would probably be even better than packing tape.

I always drifted my ancient Tamiya Lamborghini Cheetah. 25 years ago! It had 4 wheel independent torsion bar suspension, RWD with no diff and dynamic braking on the rear wheels. It was a ball to drive, especially after I fitted a bigger motor. It drifted best on vinyl tile floors, but dirt or gravel was wild too, and would leave great long 'skid marks'. I drove the crap outta that thing, half of it sideways. I even drove it in light snow on pavement.

One of my favorite vehicles. Here's the real thing:

I put the stage 2 motor in my Supra today, and HOLY **** that thing is fast. I took a tight turn at full speed on the vinyl kitchen floor and it went flying sideways because it couldn't handle it.

It even loses traction and sidehops on the carpet floor. Man I'm going to have some fun with this once I find my packing tape.

those drift wheels arnt that good, you should get pvd piping that you wheels will fit throught the opening and put em up, its cheaper and allows you to slid more

PVC pipe allows you to spin around in circles until you run out of batteries. Packing tape allows drifting, not spinning.

:( I wish I could afford a R/C Car. I'd go off-roading because there's public dirt track(just a dirt track no guest station no bathrooms just some dirt and place for people to get parking). I'd buy a savage 21 and tear up the track! But of course im a kid and i can't afford the maintenance for one.

Excuse me? Some 'fag'? I wasn't aware that I was gay, or that that was an acceptable name to call someone on GTPlanet.

Yea its a three speed and its worth getting but I cant get out of 2nd gear in my street. Its suprisingly strong as it didnt break when I cartwheeled it at 60mph!! :dopey:

are the tokomo cars battery or gas powered?
