I have a steering wheel myself but I'd like get my dad one as he is a bigger car enthusiast than myself or my brother who got us into the Gran Turismo series since it was released.

Leave the contest for those that do not have a wheel yet (surely you and your brother can buy your Dad a DFGT?) :)

Contest ends February 28, 2011 However I will be doing another giveaway if this one goes well. March 2 will be the starting date for the next contest.

Kai...

Anyword on the gift list? I'm working my way up in credits =\

I'll give this a go.

Apokalipse's GT5 review

The hype surrounding this game was unbelievable... It was only a couple of weeks ago, but it was overwhelming... but this is the present and we've all had some time now to absorb all the different aspects of the game, including me!
So lets get started with the most important aspect of racing simulation games.
The graphics? Oh yeah the standards are so ba...
NO
The premiums vs. standards thing? Yeah that decision was a bad one by...
NO
Bad AI?
well kind of, but more on that later
The physics? Yeah those are awesome...
YES

With all these threads about this being wrong and that being wrong I get the feeling that people forget what Polyphony Digital have been saying they have been concentrating on.
When I joined GTPlanet about a year or so ago there was talk about an awesome new physics engine.
And my god it wasn't all talk! The physics are so much better. When I first played GT5 I was impressed- you can imagine, since my other Gran Turismo game is GT4. That's right I went from GT4 to GT5 and it was like taking a huge leap forward. The new physics pose a daunting task but help make the game so much more fun. I was surprised, when I was enjoying the Vitz race... such a race if it were in GT4 would be incredibly boring and just a task for me. But I must say I enjoyed it because the physics feel so fresh, new and right. I'm sure anyone who played the game agrees with me.

So lets go talk about the other things I was so quick to dismiss earlier.
The graphics
First off let me tell you I have a standard definition television. So the difference between standard and premium is probably less noticeable. Still the game looks so highly polished even on my 10 year old TV. The beautiful reflections, the highly detailed cars, etc. etc.
With such a high standard set from the start you then notice the shadown... God they aren't nice... at all
But with that said you don't notice it during the race unless you're using cockpit view. The main reason I have against the shadows being the way they are is the fact, that they look so out of place. It's not enough to make me not enjoy the game, but it's the worst thing I can notice in the game every time I play... and it's not even that bad.

Premiums vs. Standards
Like I mentioned before the majority of the time spent was on the physics engine (or so I think). Making a game for a new system isn't quite the easy task and Polyphony had their work cut out for them, so it's quite understandable they only gave us 200 premiums, GT5 is special in itself, since it has more cars on a new system (PS3) than the previous game on the previous system.
700 GT4 cars vs. 1000 GT5 cars
I respect Polyphony for that. They could easily have never even mentioned standards and only given us the 200 premiums and people would be disappointed yes, but I believe it would not have such an effect as giving us standards has.

The online racing
I find it immensely fun. I could easily play it many hours straight and not get bored. It's this additional option that the online play gives us. You can play a-spec and the special events, even do a b-spec race from time to time. But what gave me the most fun and frustration-less time was going to the GTP chat and going to a private lobby.
Now that is awesome! No worries about bad AI or even winning the race. This is where the real fun is to be had. You can even just cruise around and not race at all... it's an experience not to be missed... I'm sure the people that played GT5p or Forza3 know this already, but that's my opinion of it.

The AI
It's not the best. Even though we all had our fingers crossed it's not perfect. I have heard people say that the cars firmly stick to their set path and other things like that. Well okay, but people said that for GT4? Are you saying there hasn't been any improvement? There has of course! The AI is much better at overtaking and it doesn't slam into your rear (as much). However the AI has somehow learned the PIT maneuvre. That's bad... But I only noticed it in the special events.

The music
I'll keep it brief.
I absolutely love the menu music. I don't even like jazz either...
The race music is that noise in the background that bugs you... turn it off

Overall
I love the game. It doesn't seem like an unfinished game at all (like others have been saying). The game does what it does best in that it lets you drive a car and actually make you feel like you're driving a car at the same time! All the other things graphics, standards etc. etc. That's like the extra toy you get in your cereal box. But we cannot ignore the fact, that sometimes the extra toy in other racing games is a tad better. so this is why it gets a 7/10 from me and it could even be improved with patches!
The physics get a 10/10 though! Great job from Polyphony!

And I know I probably miss-placed a whole lot of commas... Sorry about that.

I'll get started on that, what colour would you like? (please dont say matte) :nervous:

You got over 2 months lol. Shouldn't be too hard to get. With 10 people giving avg. 400k cars. She will have 4 million credits worth of cars just on this contest :D.

Really, over 40 million credits? I can't believe that. How much game percentage you have completed?

Can you control the X1 pretty good? Also you're going to be participating in the race correct?

That actually stung a little. =]

yep ur' about 75 and i was abt 76 % last time i checked.... though my lvl's a bit lower... as i hate grinding.

Ill make this reveiw quick an simple, I think gt5 did a great job AT making the game, they had alot of errors such as online play being laggy, also there damage affects are horrible, the games like extreme professional are pretty fun to play except the AI are a**holes, overall gt5 beats mosts of its competers such as F1 2010 an more other racing games, thats my opinion.

Now that we're doing a much better job at staying on topic, I have a new request - less double, and on occasion triple, posting, please. If you'd like to comment on multiple posts, don't use the Quote button, go for the

What car would you like me to gift you, Kai?

Your gift car is a Yellow Enzo. Good luck Crimson!

Gran Turismo 5, in many ways, is a flawed game. For some, it will be a major disappointment considering the 6 year wait (since GT5-P was considered to be a "demo" of sorts). A typical review would then go on to talk about the flawed AI or the weak spots in terms of graphics, but truth be told, none of that really matters to me because despite the conclusion I started this review off with, I LOVE THIS GAME.

I'm no computer programmer or hardcore gamer (I own a grand total of 7 games on PS3) but I love cars. I love cars so much that starting when I was 3 or 4, I started calling out names of cars, even before I could speak English well. When I was a teenager, I would skip school, work, tennis practice etc. and spend hours learning about cars which I will never own or even drive. Drag strips, autocrosses, car meets, dyno days and admittedly a few impromptu street races were all part of my life in those days ...along with GT1 of course. :)

... and because of that love of cars, I don't want a game which sacrifices realism for "easy" or "fun to play" or "exciting" or any other description which may be seen in a positive light by many hardcore gamers. No, I want realism. I want to be slower if I miss the correct line or brake too late. I want to experience oversteer if I apply too much throttle in a high horsepower, rear wheel drive car and understeer if I try to go through a turn at full throttle in a front wheel drive car. If I lift throttle in a high speed turn, I want to lose control. I want the game to require and deliver precise steering and throttle inputs, which result in noticeable changes on the screen. To sum it up, GT5's physics and driving dynamics are done just the way I would have done it myself (if I had the capability to, of course).

Its also the little things. The painstaking detail of the Premium cars, beauty of some of the tracks, how the engine note changes depending on the view, etc. Again, just how I would have done it too.

Did GT5 get all the details right? No, but then again, was it realistic to expect that a video game would be perfectly real? Not really. So for me at least, it all boils down to this. What makes GT5 (and the Gran Turismo series in general) special is not some delusional claim of perfection but rather the passion and the obsession over all things automotive. GT5 is a celebration of the automobile from a group of people who clearly love them as much as I do.

Your gift car is the FTA Twin Turbo Audi TT. Can be found in the HPA dealership. Good luck!

I've played all games in the GT series and they're all memorable, this one has it's issues for sure but it's the best because it's the first full GT game I can play with my son while teaching him and hopefully inspiring my love of cars.

The boy now thinks I'm the master of all things auto, even though I'm intermediate at best I get to show him all the cool stuff; the corkscrew at Laguna Seca, Spoon curve at Suzuka circuit, teach him about braking and weight shift and hitting the apex and he loves it even though I don't know what I'm talking about half the time he doesn't know that.

After purchasing a used car he ran to tell mom that I just spent 20,000 on a car, after I explained to him that it wasn't real money he wanted to buy a car too. Specifically, he wanted a McLaren F1 because that's what he knows but I told him it was too expensive at this point in the game and we need to save our money. He picked out a used 80's RX-7, he wanted it blue with a spoiler and he promptly took it for a 50 minute jaunt around the Nurburgring never making it to the Carousel.

Now he wants an upgraded turbo because he says he wants to race people even though he can't make it around an oval without hitting the wall or stopping at least ten times because he wants to know if he can "drive through there" or "where does that side road go", followed by "I can't turn around". I think I created a GT monster.

Kai did you ever get a response on the nest contest? Im still motivated to get a wheel!

I would like to do a second giveaway. Do you think it would be ok to use this same thread?
Start a new thread. Both going on in the same thread is just going to cause mass confusion.

I just found this thread and I would like to post my review.

I have been playing Gran Turismo since it came out on the PS1. To date I have enjoyed them all even the the much maligned GT5. It has plenty of problems which are complicated by the fact that it took six years to come out. Despite it's long lead time the game still feels rushed in some areas. The standards cars being ported over should have allowed to concentrate on other areas but it seems to be lacking when compared to GT4.
That's really baffling usually with sequels it may be more of the same but features utilized in its predecessor usually get carried over. In B-Spec there is no option to speed up the race and it seems like you cannot save mid race. The paint option only works for the premium cars which I feel is a big mistake. The prices for the cars seem to be out of whack and the fact that you can't race and constantly sell prize cars make it difficult to get all the cars that you want. This seems odd to me because more so than anything else GT has always been about the cars so why make it so hard to obtain them?
Okay now let's get on to the things I love about the game. The feel of the cars seems very good to me and I like most of the tracks. A thing that I have found to be really fun is the trade market. Trading for cars and trying to come with good offers is fun especially when you can get a car you want to get. I also enjoy the track creator. t s not quite Mod Nationesque but it does allow you to create some challenging tracks. I think online is great as well I have only done a few races (and come in last) but I enjoyed it. I think the addition of damage will only help to improve the experience. To put a bow on this review this an enjoyable but incredibly flawed game that I am nonetheless addicted to.
Final score 8.5/10

Kai did you ever get a response on the nest contest? Im still motivated to get a wheel!

Hopefully this isnt too off subject I put a link up from inside sim racing about the pros and cons of all the wheels The DFGT gets good marks. also a reveiw
