Go Ahead and try them. I've tried things and I find it easy to just stop when I want.
So says the man who clearly has ABSOLUTLEY NO IDEA about his own physiology, or of the nature of addiction, or positive and negative reinforcement.
I spent some time studying this while doing my Bachelors in Psychology, and I have to say that it was extremely interesting. The effects that certain drugs have on the human physiology is quite remarkable. And because the brain and body have such a good idea of what's inside them, they learn. Hence when you take a drug that is nice, your body learns that it is nice, and wants more. If you do not give it more, you feel bad, which negatively reinforces the act of not-taking the drug. This reduces your baseline (i.e. no drug) well-being, and makes you continually want more of the drug.
When you take the drug, you give the body the hit it was wanting, and make it feel good. This is positively reinforcing the act of taking the drug. Therefore you have a double-reinforcement of the drug taking, in removing the negative reinforcement, and adding the positive reinforcement. You move your well-being to the 'drugged' state, which is higher than your 'undrugged, pre-sample' state, and much higher than your 'undrugged, post-sample' state. This effect is known by a single word, and that word is 'addiction'.
Other effects, such as desensitisation come into play too, particularly with drugs like cocaine and alcohol. Basically, this means that if you repeatedly take the same dose, your body becomes accustomed to it, and the high (the positive reinforcement of the 'drugged' state), is lessened. However, your body remembers the enjoyment of the first move to 'drugged', and thus is disappointed that the current 'drugged' state is not matching its previous experience of 'drugged'. This motivates the person to take a larger dose, in order to re-attain that initial high. Obviously this means that larger and larger quantities are taken.
If you've read, and understood all this, then good on you. I don't want to lecture, but you're advised to have a think about this, and what you're actually doing to yourself. You should, of course, add my previous post about the chemical dangers, to your new impression of drugs.
