It's rather more than 5 or 6 mate. I'd be Elite PS4 if that was the case never mind on PC. I only needed 33 or so millions to get where I currently am. It's taking a LOT longer to make further progress. It's over a billion to reach Elite in trading and that's after you get the required amount for the previous stage.

I earned 54 million trading rares to lave in the recent cg. That put me 73% of the way to the next stage. On PS4 I'm on the same level but only 6%.

Yeah there's 9 total ranks, counting your starting rank and Elite. So 7 ranks in between. More than 5 or 6. I didn't remember the exact number.

Exploration will be the worst for me to get. It's 200 million credits worth of data sold to get to Elite, it's around 85 million just to rank up Pioneer to get to Elite. Combats slow going too, unless they changed it, it was only ships you destroyed your rank or higher counted towards ranking up.

Edit:(this isn't correct either, some ships 2-3 ranks below you count, but it's very minor, like .5, .25 progression. I was almost positive it used to be only ships your rank and higher)

I'm still only Master in combat and pathfinder in exploration.

That's where I am at too, Master in combat (60%), Pathfinder in exploration, Elite in Trade. I don't know if I'll ever hit Elite in combat, I just want to get to Deadly which is a requirement to unlock one of the Engineers, and I'll be happy with that.

What genius though it was a good idea to set a system cg a very bloody long way away that's locked the 🤬 down? :banghead:

Still at least I was able to give that bloody women her sodding Meta whatever it is.

Most likely a player UA bombed the place, forcing it into lockdown, it's really a form of griefing but it's allowed and is considered a part of the game. It will be 3 days or more before it's out of lockdown (depending on how many bounties are turned in). Luckily there is a combat CG happening along side the trading CG, so it should only be 3 days not more.

As for the location, it is supposed to be an outpost that will be setup by the Federation to monitor Thargoid activity which has been occurring in and around the Maia area, that is why it needs to be set there and not somewhere else.

I wanted to participate in the trading and combat CG's, I even jumped in my Anaconda because it's equipped for both but I ended up seeing it was in lockdown so I decided to wait for a few days first. Instead, I jumped in my Fer De Lance and begin what will eventually be an Engineering tour. I've barely touched this ship since I bought it, most of the modules are still D-rated and non-engineered. It's time to get the War Bird project up and running. I'm en-route to Jameson Memorial for outfitting then it's off to Decait to see Felicity Farseer and begin the tour. I'm hoping I will like the FDL enough for it to become my main Bounty Hunting ship next to my Corvette. I'm just trying to figure out what loadouts I want, do I go with twin Plasma Accelerators and some Lasers to compliment, or do I go with Beams and Multi-cannons, or something else entirely, I do not know yet, going to have to experiment.

I was planning on getting myself either a Fer De Lance or Python on the steam version after the Lave rare event but I love my Dolphin so much that I've decided to get a Beluga instead. That's if I can get round to loading the Steam version though. I've been pretty much playing it on PS4 non stop.

I was planning on carrying cargo to this cg and then transporting my Viper IV to start on the bounty hunt cg, but I can't find a station close enough for it's FSD rated drive to reach......

After lots of flying around I finally found a planetary base in the CG system itself with a shipyard to transfer my Cobra to. It's on the planet closest to the star.

FDL is a bad ass ship, it's one of my favorite to fly while dogfighting. I have 4 gimballed pulse lasers and a large MC on mine. It's definitely a one trick pony though, not good for much else besides fighting because of the internals, or lack there of. Also it's pretty much GTFO time once the shields drop on that thing.

Those are my three favorite ships, the FDL, Federal Corvette and the Python. I like my anaconda too, but it's much better set up for exploration and a 50ly jump range. It was fun to fight with, but not nearly as OP as the Corvette.

If I had to pick just one ship to use though, it would probably be the Python. It's ability to land at small outposts is a huge deal, and it's just as deadly as the FDL, with the plus of being able to take a lot more damage.

Yes it has, I put 48 tons in and got to 75% straight away. I put another 48 tons in while my tank Viper IV arrived only to find no res sites in solo.

None of my PS4 friend list have the game. Anyone with PS4 version? Add me. (Tired_Tyres) Thinking about getting a Pro now.

After flying the Cobra mk3 bone stock for 20 hours it was time for some upgrades. Very happy with the increased jump distance and better weapons. Installed two railguns and two automated multi cannons. Was interdicted an hour ago and decided to give it a go. It was a white Eagle and got a 13k reward from the Federation after killing him. Got behind him and when he started drifting I hit him 4 times with the railgun while the cannons did their thing. Guess I can try some assassinations for the Federation now! I want to get to Sol so I need a good rank...

Now finally having the Discovery scanner makes life a bit easier too :D

5 hours of server maintenance over, Patch 1.04 available (83MB) playable again and I'm going to have a look at the black hole in HR 1185.

Edit. Bit of a none event really. :ouch:

Is that your first black hole you've seen? They are kind of underwhelming. There's one in Maia as well.

I wish it didn't take so long to go way out and explore. I want to go to Sag A, and lots of other places way out there. I just get so bored exploring, and it takes forever to come back in.

Yes it's the first. I was expecting system domination and a big event horizon at the very least... Maybe even sucking the life out of a nearby Star...

Maia? I thought it was in Merope. No wonder I couldn't find it.... :dunce:

Additionally, I'd prefer it if the Advanced Discovery Scanner and Detailed Surface Scanner and such like went in the Utility mounts rather than the internal module section. Since they scan externally they should have external access.

I've just tried spec'ing up a DBX for exploration duties but but it has a lack of internal module space and no less than four utility slots.

OKay, thinking of getting this for PS4. Is Horizons worth it in the Commander edition?
I would get it with out a doubt. It lets you land on planets and deploy a rover. Fun as heck (well if you read back through this thread, you'll see me complaining heavily about using the rover. But that's when we had to get a lot more materials for the engineers, and I spent hours blowing up rocks on some planets, just to upgrade my stuff) and very beautiful.

Guys, now I've started to get the hang of things a little more, I'm looking at a career path. One that suits my sensibilities is Passenger Transport / Sightseeing.

I know quite a bit of money can be earned doing this. However to make a bit of extra money, is it worth scanning the sights I pass and cashing this in at the Cartographers? Is there money in this type of work?

No idea how high the prices can go but just sold a cartographic for 70k, my highest yet. At the moment I do a lot of cargo so sometimes the Discovery scanner finds a lot of unexplored things.

You can just use the advanced discovery scanner and detailed surface scanner. Just used the advanced discovery scanner when you first arrive in a system, then manually scan the star you arrive at, then jump. This should only take 30 seconds at the most. If you travel a lot, the money from doing this will add up over time. Of course also scan any rare things you may see.

I used to scan everything in a system, after a while you learn (or can google), what's worth scanning and what's not as far as making money goes.

Advanced Discovery Scanner and Detailed Surface Scanner cost about 2 million together but will pay for themselves in no time at all.

I can sell pages of discoveries for a few million or some systems for as much as 300,000 credits. It is time intensive though. White Dwarfs, Black Holes, Earth likes and water worlds are best but any star at all will give you nearly 3,000 credits and there is one right in front of you when you jump in system. A normal honk will get you about 400, the ADS will give you about 1,200 plus everything else in the system and the DSS will give you just under 3,000. It will add up quickly.

Progress is slow for me as I'm avoiding any combat or anything illegal.

My sydwinder is loaded out now apart from weapons. I'm now jumping around the local systems delivering Data. Quick easy and basic pay. Saving now for the next ship big enough for passengers and a decent Jump distance.

I'm thinking Maybe a Diamondback modded for passengers and exploration.

Can't you do some boom the time missions? Payout from those are a lot higher and help you save up a bit quicker..

The Explorer version? Check out the Dolphin instead. Less money and more slots for everything else. I use it for exploration and rare trading.

The DBX has more weapons possibilities though. Either way try to buy ships at Li Yong-Rui controlled systems. You get 15% off ship and parts costs.

Not sure what those are. I'll look into them though. Thanks for the heads up.

@Tired Tyres thanks for the tip on the ships too.

Look for systems where the status says "Boom". Several contacts will offer missions like "Boom time delivery" or "Boom data delivery".

Python is probably the best all-around ship in the game, the only area it's lacking is the jump range department. I probably wouldn't take it exploring but it's good for everything else.

The current setup I'm testing for the FDL is one Huge Pulse Laser, two medium burst lasers and twin plasma accelerators in the last two slots. The first results are very promising. I'm not that great with fixed weapons but the maneuverability and speed of the FDL helps me get in range quickly and when I hit ships with both accelerators, I destroy them in just a few shots, it's almost too easy. I'm loving the FDL so far, very fun ship.

I equipped my Explore-Conda with more Pulse Lasers and engineered them with grade 3 rapid fire mods, it's a tough ship now. I mainly did this for the last few community goals which had combat goals and trading goals out of the same station. My conda can haul 304t of cargo and that's with a fighter hangar and SRV. I made over 60 million in just the last two weeks doing them. My jump range is still 29ly with this setup. Eventually I will stripped it mostly back down, but it was fun while it lasted.

Thanks for the heads up on Boom jobs guys.

I've recently upgraded from the Sidwinder to a Type 6.

Allows me to shift a bit more about for bigger paydays.

I'm still waiting for a Federation mission to pop up. I've been sat waiting to move up the ranks for some time.

Once I get a little more cash I'll do some more outfitting of the type 6 and try and get the jump range up a tad.

However I'm really enjoying the game. It's my type of grind.
