Engine Swaps

My god. There are some dastardly creations in that thar thread.

The over the top ones sure are impressive but I also like the relatively (in comparison) simple swaps, like S2K motor in a rwd Starlet.

Oh god that 106 with the WRC Maxi kit... drop dead gorgeous!

Here's a few more "odd" swaps, so to say.

I unfortunately lost all the pics of it but there was this very sweet green MK1 Rabbit with a B18C5, in the UK... All done up German style, but without the VW unreliabilty. :p

V8 Miatas are cooler'n'hell. A little noseheavy, but quick. I've seen LS1-powered E30s, too.

I'd post pics of my wife's old 2.4 DOHC-swapped Neon, but that was a hack job compared to some of these.

The funny thing is how amazing it is to do engine swaps nowadays (it seems) where maybe 20-30 years ago engine swaps were a breeze and didn't have the amzement factor, due to the fact that all the engines were practically the same design and size, and the engine bays were huge! :p

Yeah. All you might need to do is fab up some mounts, connect the fuel line and battery cables, and away you went.

I love this (from the thread Revheadnz posted), an S2000 engine in an Austin Healey Sprite:

That swap is pretty common among Mini owners if things on various Mini forums are to go by. There is even a few companies that sell kits to do it.

And per that forum posting, I want to know what the 3000GT has a 1.9L TDI in it? There has to be some sort of reason.

When his second engine blew up, dad was thinking about doing that with his (because I'm guessing you mean PT Cruiser 2.4). He decided he didn't want to lose the revability, though.

MK1.5 mr2 swap.
This is basically the exact same setup i'm building, currently.

gen 3 3sgte (from a celica st205 in this case, or a 1994+ MKII MR2 from japan) into the rear of an mk1.

stock is 245hp. 300 whp is easily attainable, in a ~2500lb car

THat'd be a scary swap...

Although...does your 4A-GE run? Do you have all the parts to make it do so?

can I have it for free?

I had a 4agze. My 88 was a supercharged model. Ran great at 14 psi with 150,xxx miles...for a month or two, then I started getting signs of a blown headgasket. I've pretty much parted the entire engine.

Perhaps, when his second engine blew up, he might have reconsidered 'revability'...
Mine came out of a '96 Strat. I did it in 2001 or so, so the PTs weren't readily available in junkyard form at the time, though the head was better than the head from the older cloud cars.

It was hooked up to the 3-speed automatic trans from the stock Neon. It was really a lot of fun as a daily driver in that form, and would run mid/upper 15s with zero tuning. As I said I kind of hacked it together and used a junkyard engine. With some finesse it would have run mid/upper 14s, with power steering and air conditioning.

EDIT: Quad turbo Merc. V12 in an R33

Any more info on this?
I've seen that car before, there's some more info in this thread though you'll have to read through it to find it all some of the posts have been quoted below.

Hi everyone,

I am the owner of the car and this is the last evolution of the project.

No the car is not an ex R34 GTR race car (I asked Nismo to sell me one but they refused)
Yes it has a MB quad turbo V12.

No the engine is not twice as heavy as the R26. The MB engine is all made of aluminium, and is just as heavy as the cast iron RB26.

Yes I had tu cut the biggest part of the firewall to fit the engine inside the car. The engine is in central front position and the weight balance is nearly perfect.

Yes you can get over 1000 horsepower out of a RB26 but with tons of boost and racing fuel. The reliability of such an engine is not so good at this level of tuning.

Yes technology can be a replacement for displacement but I call an all aluminium 48 valves quad cam quad turbo V12 with variable cam timing a decent piece of technology.

Anyway. We live in a world where everyone has the right to built what he wants and where everyone has the right to like it or not.

Best regards to everyone

Hi,

Here are a few pictures of the engine. It was not finished when I took the pictures but I hope that this will be enough for the unbelievers.

About the Nismo car on E-bay : It's a very nice car but not what I was looking for. I tried to buy an ex JGTC car which is a lot more radical than this one.

About the reliability issue. Everyone has is own idea of the problem but I can't see how a 2.6 liter 1000 hp engine could be more reliable than a 6.9 liter 1000 hp engine.

Best regards

The engine inside the car...

And outside... with the OS Giken 6 speed sequential gearbox and the Skyline transfer box...

The car is far from being finished at this time but everything works...

LMF

The turbos are ball bearing units that Garrett assembled specially for this car. The pistons are 8.5 to 1 custom made J.E. The boost level should remain under 1.5 bar. The cams will be 264° or 272°.

The engine + gearbox + transfer box is about 71 inches long.
I did not have to move the seat and steering wheel that much (probably 5 inches or so). The engine itself has a 25 mm (1 inch) offset (to the right side of the car).

And if you can read French, the guys blog.
