I played Fallout 3 a little, I'm not really into these types of games because they demand so much time and I know next month when Black Ops comes out I won't be playing anything else right now. I'm not really familiar with everything in the game, but doing that mission over and over taught me a lesson on save slots in this game for sure....

Thats the one great thing about the Fallout games is that you can save ANY time you want in the game. At the exact point you save is exactly where the game will load. Thats a feature I wish all games had.
I have hated autosaves since the issue that happened to me in COD2.

thankfully haven't had lag issues yet (ps3, though I had plenty of fo3 bugs). I do save very often though, if only for being flexible on where I want to go back to if I screw something up.

The reason autosave should be turned off immediately is because it creates problems in that constantly saving game data over and over causes it to be corrupted - a good example is when you emerge through a door and it autosaves, then you immediately fast travel to somewhere. The game starts a new autosave halfway through your first autosave. Result - corrupted data, causing freezes and crashes.
What I do is just save manually save every 10-15mins and whenever I venture into a new area or complete something.
This has led to an almost bug-free Fallout 3 experience, and that includes the DLC.
Although saying that, I'm pretty sure Fallout: NV will have less problems in this regard because it's a different developer.

So far in New Vegas the experience has been fun, i'm pretty sure it's been said on one of the reviews but it feels like a huge expansion of Fallout 3. To me at least that is in no way a bad thing. I am enjoying every second, buttttttt.........Some of the same nasty issues from the past iteration have somehow passed over to new vegas. ex; freezing up, loading screen takes forever, some dead enemies rocker up into the air for no reason. It's a great game, but i only wish these issued would have been ironed out already geez.

Just got home with it. A little disappointed in the lack of goodies (maps and stuff).

The first thing I did was raid the doctors place for everything I could find which included a laser rifle, then when I got outside for the first time, within 30 seconds my first action was to punch one of those radioactive cows

I love the freedom of Fallout but I'm ready bad at RPG style games.

Also, did anyone choose the trait that enables "the quirky and random side of the wasteland"? I picked it out of curiosity.

Just picked up my copy for EB as well. A map would have been nice in the collector’s edition. Unfortunately I have to go back to work for a few more hours and then take my wife out for some shopping & dinner so I doubt I’ll get to do much more than install it onto my pc tonight. :(

I've noticed with this trait, which i got as well,is that in some conversations you have with people you ask yourself "did they really just say that?"

I was also out in the middle of nowhere and there was a refrigerator just sitting there.I was like what the heck lol

I was also out in the middle of nowhere and there was a refrigerator just sitting therel

Haha I love random stuff like that

Ok I have a few questions if anyone's keen on answering?

A house. I'm raiding every gecko, ammo box etc I can find and I need a place to stash all the stuff (hammers, pilot lights) I know I'll need later on. Do I get a house soon or should I stash it at that deserted school?

After I killed the gecko's with that frighteningly attractive bar wench I kept walking a bit south I think and came across some dudes in a blue suit. They came across as hostiles on my hud and I got XP for killing them but when I raided their camp I got bad karma for taking their dynamite and stuff? What's the go with that?

A shovel. I finished bar wench's flower picking and that's as far as I've gone with the game so far but while I was at the cemetery I noticed I could dig up graves  but I needed a shovel. Anyone found a shovel? I'm really curious to see what's in there!

Running. Can I run any faster? I tried mashing buttons but I feel like I'm competing in the special Olympics :grumpy: It's taking so long to get around..

i may give this game a try (on the PS3) once the patch has been released to resolve most if not all of the most glaring bugs.

Running is moving without crouching in this game, yes that sucks. My character moves faster with the gun not out in view, so I don't run around with it out. You can also fast travel to places you have already been through the Pipboy, comes in handy. I don't know about the getting a house part, and I found a shovel on one of the prisoners in the second town you go to and then went back to dig up the graves.

Hrmm that's weird. I just went to the second town and didn't find a shovel on any of the convicts. I only got clothes and tyre irons and stuff :( I did get a nice new weapon though.

"the quirky and random side of the wasteland"

That is for the funny stuff in the fallout universe. Obsidian isn't a fan of random hillorious stuff, so they give you the choice if you want a laugh take it.

I got a shovel in the first town at the shop.
But didn't know about the graves, Need to dig that.

I simply love roaming again in the Fallout universe.

I'm now at the prision.

I chose the funny stuff 👍

I'm finding this a lot easier than Fallout 3. I used to get ... scared wandering the wasteland because I'd always find a super mutant or something. NV I'm just wandering around killing random animals and raiders/convicts with ease.

Also, it seems the NV wasteland is about 1/5th the size of Fallout 3's...

I bought a shovel at the general store, just keep checking back and you should be able to find one. As far as the map size goes, it looks small on the pip boy but when I realized how long it was taking to get between areas that looked close together and I believe it is just a matter of scale. I'm also really loving the new crafting and ammo system.

Turn off auto save. It will help the lag.
I turned the auto saves off yesterday and it really didnt help much. I still have the strange "clipping" hesitation in the game while moving around. Its like the game cant keep up with the backround loading. Oh well I was used to it in Fallout 3 so its not a big deal. I have about 7 hours total into the game and I am soo hooked. I have about 550 caps and at least 1,000 items in my Dumpster. I just keep bringing things back to the first city. I have always been a major hoarder in games.

which dumpster are you using and how safe do you feel it is? I've been looking for a place to stash my items for crafting etc.

It won't help with that but it will help with the game slowing down and freezing. This game isn't as bad as FO3 so far but it can't hurt.

There are plenty of places to keep your stuff. I just picked a random house in goodsprings. I've got several hotel rooms also.

Just found my first plasma rifle :D

There's also a gun called "That-Gun" It's 950ish caps. I suspect it's a con...

I use the dumpster in Goodsprings. It is to the left of the supply store and it is next to the mail drop box. So as soon as you fast travel to Goodsprings, look a little to the left and its there beside the building. Its really convenient because on the other side of the building you will see the workbench.
The dumpster is very safe. Everything is safe as long as you dont just throw your stuff on the ground. If you put your stuff into an object like mailbox, dumpster, locker, it will stay there forever.

what is that mail/post items to a location??

What is its purpose??

Yeah....I was wandering around like that and not sticking to the highway when while I was walking I got a huge hit from the back and turned around to see 3 Giant poison type scorpions. Those things refused to die from a lvl 2, even throwing dynamite like crazy it barely did anything to them. I had to run and run and run until I made it to a quarry and then jumped from the ledge to the top of a house and waited for a while and they finally left me alone

I wish I would have done the strange deal now! I didn't know if it meant the game would be harder or something so I didn't pick it because I'm not the best at this game:scared:
