@Mr. Latte: i think your doing great job and that you give much yourself into that, but i dont like that you didnt open your topic and putted all that in one theme.

Like this is hard to connect all that things.

@Fanatec:

When taking Darin to work for Fanatec from my opinion that was a brilliant marketing move. He is already a well known person in sim racing world, his word means something, at least in that time ( we will see in future) etc.

One question: Did you think that this could happend? As your are German, i have very high opinion for that nation(very good in planning, great business people etc.) so i cant belive that you didnt take that in your consideration!

This is just one of the possible conclusions of that cooperation.

Fanatec will continue to work without the ISR just like the ISR without Fanatec.

Yeh I can imagine he is very busy..

DG said he'd do it on what I guess was his last day as he told me he was stepping down from pr.. although he didn't mention he was leaving.

Then he ignored my final email about who to contact then you Logiforce gave me one of Thomas's emails!

I remember how it all went down. Just thought i'd ask it as a side question really and as a hint for if he totally forgot about it. I mean we're humans and forget things and make mistakes, so he could have as well through all the troubles and normal work. Also I was asking for the others here who wanted to know the answers to certain questions, who also might have forgotten about the thing. ;)
If Thomas answers that he isn't capable of answering yet due to other stuff that take priority first, I am absolutely fine with that. It's not something of importance.

Also I hope Thomas was cool with me giving you his mail though for this purpose. :guilty:

@Fanatec...
Oh... on a personal request from me to Thomas. Well... request... i'd just like to see this as a wheel add-on for the CSW personally.
My dad used to own a Volkswagen Polo coupe mk2 special edition from 1983 (it had a certain name, but I forgot). It was blue with sport stripes, BBS rims with extra low profile tires and lowered, the double round headlights from the Golf GTI. It also had this very nice steeringwheel with VW logo in the middle and had a diameter of 30cm. It was of light brushed aluminium and wrapped with leather. It looked something like this (and looks something like the G25 wheel, but with better leather).
My question is... will you be making such a simple rim with maybe a Fanatec logo as the horn and quality leather that feels awesome in your hands?

I like that Logi, but this is what I have been proposing as 1 for quite some time now. Similar to yours, just a bit bigger and fully round with no 10-2 hand positioning.

This is obviously more for Nascar Fanatics. I would also be using it for all road racing as well. This is the rim baby. 350mm Suede Momo Round.

" Also I hope Thomas was cool with me giving you his mail though for this purpose."

He is although we use a different one now..

Fits perfectly also to rally and drifting. For me the upcoming BMW race wheel do the same job with CSW.

I personally would like to do away with the 10-2 hand positioning though. That is why I want a true round rim. I race some sprints and late models and have THIS rim for my cars. I tried a sparco with the 10-2, did not feel right at all racing on dirt or a really short paved track.

The BMW GT rim, for now, will work for me. But I would prefer a true round rim in the future.

I will try to explain this as best as I can.

Wouldn't it be cool if you could attach any real life wheel to the CSRE/CSW? Yes, obviously!

But how would this work? An adapter for the CSRE and CSW that attaches to the steering rod (QR system for CSW).

But now the wheel has no buttons, this will not work? Simple solution, a Fanatec button box. Sure you will miss the paddle shifters, but that is what the CSS will be for.

So lets get this straight. Any wheel (with standard screw arrangement)+adapter+button box+CSS=awesome.

Hey guys: while people (ahem, Latte) are experimenting with getting into the guts of the Elite, I wonder if someone could take a look at the wheel rim top section?

I wrote Thomas with a suggestion that where the seams are at about a 45 degree angle as the hand grips section joins the top piece, if the top section of the rim could be removed that might be ideal for me. I play with a large screen mounted low in my rig so the physical wheel matches up height-wise with most cockpits' on-screen wheel. This is very immersive, but in some sims the top of the real wheel rim often blocks part of the cockpit rendering on-screen. So if the top of the rim was removed, it would not only be lighter (more FFB/speed) but have better visibility. Just like a LeMans or ALMS car style steering wheel.

Also it would be even better if it could be removed and later replaced without damage. Or replaced with an optional different top? One like a Ferrari w/ built-in rev lights? Sure this would work PC only, and may have to be aftermarket (since it wouldn't pass Microsoft scrutiny), but wouldn't that be a cool add-on?

Anyway, Thomas responded (as long as my question was clear) that there are no electronics in that part of the rim, so cutting it away would be possible (I was concerned this was where the vibe motors or their cables might be in there.) But I wonder if cutting is the right word? Looks like w/ the seam there I was hoping it could be taken apart pretty easily. Ideally with a way to put it back easily would be even better- something like a hidden bolt or strong enough magnets on either side maybe?

Anyway, if anyone can tell how that section is connected or wants to experiment feel free to report back!
Guys, I know it's lame to bump my own post, but just after I posted this last night all the drama over As The ISR/Fanatec Turns soap opera hit this thread. Not that this isn't interesting, but I just wanted to re-post my question/idea and ask if anyone either A) has been able to look at the wheel rim construction where top section joins the grips area to see if it would be easily removable, and B) if anyone else things this would be a cool option for the reasons I highlighted?

Well you could always get the fixed shifter pedal accessory if Thomas still plans on releasing it.

But I like the idea. ;)

@Mikemav: send Latte a message, he might be able to give you the answers since he took the wheel apart. Although I don't know how far. I'm sure he'll get back to you ASAP with a reply, posi- or negative.

Can't see you putting a real life car steering wheel on it to be honest.

Unless they recomend a weight restriction.
The flywheel effect would damage bearings etc.

The wheels would be Fanatec issued.
I'm pretty sure warrantys would be void if they found out your throwing anything on it.

Anybody has all the drilling templates for all Fanatec pedals that can be hard mounted? Can't seem to be able google those.. thanks a lot.

edit,

found the elite pedals drilling template.. is it the same measures for CSP's? (341,7mm x 271,4mm)

edit3,

sorry got confused.. still looking for the csp drilling template though :D

edit4,

My best guess is that the closer (if there are more than 2) holes on on the CSP's are 272,5mm apart (width). Anybody can confirm?

All the reviews are one sided (similar to ISR) as everyone is trying to "deserve" they were worth sending a beta testing wheel.

Since I noticed you've received your CSRE/CSP/CTK combo today, I am looking forward hearing your opinion as well :)

Me and Latte here - we were privileged to get the beta-versions among GTP members - were pretty vocal about things we didn't like and we both spend a hefty amount of time judging CSRE from every perspective imaginable. Also, great work done by other guys - Crispy and Sonac - speaks from itself.

I really like to think our reviews were objective, thoughtful and made in order to inform potential readers about what CSRE really is. I hope you'll also find it out soon for yourself.

We would't go far if we was writing only praises and compliments without having a strong foundation to do so. I stand behind every single word I wrote in my overview because I invested damn lot of time in my life in various wheels and games - and now in CSRE testing - to be able to recognize possible pros and cons. And I think all other guys did the same.

Just imagine if someone was "biased" for a second or writing something just trying to "deserve" anything. Community would soon eat him alive, I assure you I would be among the first :)

I am really looking forward to your opinion - as for opinion of all other people that are starting to receive their wheels. It is the only way how us - people who tested and reviewed it sooner - can get real feedback and get either confirmation or neglecting of our personal thoughts about some product 👍

Please post up discussion Adam.
You have posted up one side of a rant I would be interested to see what caused the rant.

Might be worth you starting a Gangi losses it thread while your at it.

I'll get my pitchfork.............

I have a question regarding the CSR-E. I notice in photographs of the plugs on the wheel for connecting the power, peddles and shifter but there is also one that is labeled "audio". What signal does that connector carry?

I'm think this is sort of on topic as this thread is all things fanatec...

Does anyone remember Darin here:

http://www.xgn.com.au/forums/showthread.php?4858-Darin-Gangi-loses-the-plot-over-at-VirtualR

3rd paragraph... 5th paragraph

Both go against what happened on iracing imo...

Personally I won't be watching ISR again. The rest is for you guys to decide. I would post the discussion but I don't know if I would be flamed for it so I'll leave it to someone else.

Does this really need to be rehashed, again?

does it not come up as a popup for you guys?

If your talking about the article, yes the link works.

Seems perverse but slightly compelling to read. Think I'm finding out new things about myself and I don't like it.

Nope...

I hope Thomas does it before Christmas although thats unlikely so lets wait till mid january..

he sees these so he does know were all still interested :)

Amar, I received the wheel and didn't spend much time with it yet, but... I'm very impressed :) we all might be wrong so this time is my turn ;) Check your box, I have PMed you.

Funny how he after all that's happened with Thomas, still has to use Thomas in his defense. lmao

Man, Darin seems seriously hurt, well, whos fault is it?

I liked the "take your mask off" stuff... he uses his name to earn money and promote stuff, people here do not use their real names as they are here for fun and enjoying their hobby.

ISR was good but as most of the famous crowd they got a bit corrupted with this fame, well this is human nature and this is how it works.

I won't stop watching ISR but I sure will doubt their credibility.
