I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but there aren't ANY real cars in GT5!
They are ALL pieces of software, skins on handling models. The Minolta is no more real than the Cappuccino. Drive a Ferrari skin around, you aren't ACTUALLY driving a Ferrari! And having no Porsche doesn't deny you the opportunity to drive one, because you aren't driving one even if they DID have Porsche models.
But what grinds my gears is, while everyone goes crazy on ALL these racing games absolutely HAVING to have whatever their favorite dream car they wet themselves each night thinking about, darn few seem to care that you can take that car in the game, and drive it into a wall at 150mph, and drive away whistling! I mean, if you care SO MUCH about the visual representation of reality, why not care even MORE about the visual representation (and physics representation) of the consequences of driving it poorly..?
Personally, in a racing GAME, I could care LESS what skin I'm driving around in. It could be a generic BOX, for all I care! But I care deeply that you can bash it around, hammer the AI (or them you), smack into the Aramco and grind along it, or use chicane barriers as sudden brakes, and that isn't GAME OVER...
Selective 'suspension of disbelief' doesn't work for me. Make a model that looks so photo-realistic that you MIGHT (I guess, if you are that desperate) convince yourself that you really ARE driving the real thing around, but then hit another car at 150mph, and where is that belief now?
You want true immersion, you want to CARE about what you are driving, you have to care about what happens when it all goes wrong, IMO. But ranting about no Porsche, rather than no realistic damage just seems to indicate that looks are all you care for. In which, I suggest a big poster of a REAL Porsche for your dorm room, and a couple of die-cast models...
