Finally Discovered Why I Don't Like GT5

So I should buy Xbox for one game, then pay for the online content?

PS3 has some excellent racing games, enough to easily look past Forza. I've never played Forza, not even a demo. Not really interested either. XBOX Live charges monthly, is full of modders and really? You think I should have to deal with that for just 1 game? Not a chance. :)
I could have EASILY said the same thing about the PS3 minus the online subscription BUT including the horrible online interaction. As they say in the world, you get what you pay for. Sony's online is free for a reason, that's all it's worth. Forget about trying to chat with your friends from within different games, you can't even properly chat with your friend IN THE SAME GAME with the PS3. You HAVE to join their lobby to chat, LAME. If you haven't experienced or used Xbox online service it's best not to speak on it. I can speak on both because I've used both and OWN both and the xbox is well worth the YEARLY subscription when I compare it to what's out there now.

Speaking of modders, COD4 ring a bell? It's hacker's heaven on the PS3 more so than the 360. One of my nephews has COD4 as do I but on the 360, I asked him "Why don't you get in on the 360 so I can put some holes in you, lol" His reply "You can hack it easier on the PS3, we hack it to death". All I could say was WOW

However, in the real world, where people have things like mortgages and a need to keep food on their families table the idea of buying two consoles that do pretty much the exact same thing so that you can play two games that do pretty much the exact same thing is a little silly.

Uh it may be "silly" to you but to the next man there's nothing wrong with it. That's your opinion, and we all know what opinions resemble that everyone has and usual they smell about the same. Furthermore, if life was so rough and tight with keeping food on the table what irresponsible person would buy the more expensive console anyway? Hell what are you doing with ANY console if times are tight? When times were tight I had NOTHING. I only got consoles when I was flush with cash and able to get 2 or 3 and not feel it.

Forza isn't even compareable to GT... T10 can't get very basics right. Look what they have done to Nurburgring Nordscheleife :x
This is nothing but fanboy talk. "T10 can't get very basics right" Come on man, let's have an adult conversation for a change here.

Other reasons why having a 360 is a smart move. Most multiplat games just run better on the 360 since 9 outta 10 times that's going to be the lead platform. I don't hate either system but I'm a realist.

Guys you need to take the Sony kneepads off , read my sig, and stop with the Sony GT5 Defense Force act. It really does look embarrassing seeing some grown men defend games like kids used to defend whether Batman was better than Superman.

EDIT: Another thing. I like the fact that you can have up to 16 cars online at once in a race with GT5. I think it's a great thing, the more the merrier. HOWEVER the PS3's online code leaves alot to be desired. I like the THEORY of what they are doing for online play, but the implementation leaves alot to be desired. The internet ,as we know it now, is NOT ready for the PS3's network code design. You get alot of jittery car movement and jumping around. The 360 does it a bit different, while I would normally NOT like how it's done there in practice it's the best solution. If you look at the video I posted above that was an ONLINE race. Notice how smooth every car I highlighted moves on the screen. I would not be able to do that with PS3 online races. Scratch that, I still could do that (if they would let me export video) but I'd have to select certain points where other cars but my own move smoothly. That would be a chore because the majority of the time it just isn't as smooth. Is the 360's method perfect? By all means not. There are instances where things "catch up" and too much is happening at once to be worked out and bad things can happen. But it's the BEST implementation out there at the moment. The PS3 can get way too erratic at times. I just did a NASCAR race with my guys and I was closing in on the back of one member to get some draft. 50 feet....40 feet.... 30 feet... 2 INCHES!!!! BAM! Both of us damaged.

Well you're missing out then mate. Your comments are also rendered mostly uninformed twaddle.

You don't need to pay for XBox Live to enjoy playing Forza. I didn't and still don't pay for XBox Live. I don't use the online auction, don't race online and never missed any of that. Forza has an adequate payout for wins and some fantastic reward cars. Never felt a need to buy online because I could buy everything I wanted, including upgrades, etc... within the game thanks to the more than adequate credits for winning, and still have plenty of money left over.

That is sorely lacking from GT5. Sure Sony doesn't charge for the PSN but I personally wouldn't need it if there were adequate credits for winning, decent reward cars, etc...

But this isn't the "Praise Forza" thread... and there are things in Forza that are somewhat annoying as well. This is not the time or the place to get into that though.

Even with it's shortcomings, I do like GT5 and have been playing since the release date. I just think they could have done so much more to improve upon what we have now. But like I said previously, it's just a video game and it's supposed to be fun (and is fun for the most part).

One of the byproducts of the "lack of credits for wins" is the sense of community that I get from trading in GT5. So I guess that can be looked at as a positive. If the credits were higher per win then I wouldn't have met so many nice folks in the marketplace! That may have been the intent of PD.

Hello, brother!

That's a fantastic avatar you got, tell ya' what.

Yup! :) Thanks bro!

But if I remember correctly you can't save a photo or replay without paying for XBL Gold Membership?

I don't think that's true. I think you can save but just can't upload with the XBL Gold Membership. Sorta like with replays and GT5, you can save it, but you can't do anything else with it but replay it on your console.

You can't upload unless you have the gold membership. Mine's the silver membership because I won't pay for it. But I've saved many replays in Forza. It's confined to my local game but that's ok by me. Just like in GT5 (i think?). I don't know of any way to upload my replays in GT5. Maybe there's a way but I'm missing it. I don't need to anyway so I'm fine with that.

Fair enough ... provided you stop being a MicroSoft a** kisser:

👍

stop with the Sony GT5 Defense Force act

Get off your high horse and start paying attention. Many of the comments on this thread come from members that think GT5 has a lot of flaws.

Sorry but you're letting your predjudice over-rule basic sense.

PS3 has a below average Racing Game in GT5 then an excellent Racing Game in F1 2010 which is also available on XBox

XBox has a slightly above average Racing game in FM3 an excellent racing game with F1 and a brilliant Racing Simulator with RACE Pro.

I've never played Forza, not even a demo. Not really interested either.

Then how can you pass judgment?

XBOX Live charges monthly,

No it doesn't, you can pay annually and I never buy my subscription from Microsoft, there are always sites that'll sell 12 months XBL for £28.99 which equates to 55pence a week, considering the service you get from M$ compared to PSN it's an absolute bargain.

is full of modders

WHAT? Who have you been listening to?...that's utter bull there are no modders on XBL

You think I should have to deal with that for just 1 game? Not a chance. :)

I would say no, because I was also disappointed with Forza3. Not as much as I am with GT5 and FM3 is definately a better game but to buy a whole new console for an old game would be silly.

I'd suggest just waiting a month and getting Shift2 Unleashed....it's looking like a much better game and will be avilable on PS3

I like how you just cut and paste what you want to make it seem that way. See because that's EXACTLY what you'd have to do to try to validate your weak reply. Now those with functioning grey matter will read my WHOLE post and see that there is no M$ kissing NOR any Sony kissing. I'm RACING kissing but in your mind and others it's either "You wave the Sony flag or your a traitor". Like I said, you can marry the game if you want. I wont, your "wife" is just "one of my babes" and I treat them as they treat me. But I wont be "marrying" any of them. NONE of them is wife material.

Well you're missing out then mate. Your comments are also rendered mostly uninformed twaddle.

yeah, you cant play ANY racing game without a wheel. Gran Turismo, Race-07, forza; alex zanardi is the only person exempt from this.

I'm gonna have to whole-heartedly agree with you guys. I mean if you don't have the loot then you don't have the loot and you get by with a controller. At least you're in the game. But if you can swing it having a wheel will add so much to the game. And this is a great time with Fanatec wheels being able to work with PS3, 360 and PCs. ONE WHEEL TO RULE THEM ALL.

"Now those with functioning grey matter"

Deal with your inferiority complex, look up the definition of ad hominem, and stick to discussions of the topic at hand.

LMAO! You almost said that like you knew what you were talking about and like it was funny.

If you're not going to stick with the topic at hand then don't bother replying. You're derailing this. What you just typed has NOTHING to do with the topic at hand. NOTHING. NEXT!

Seems to me you are equally as guilty of derailment... certainly of over enthusiastic brow-beating. Calm down and go back to the premise that you are not the only person with an opinion worth listening to.

Glad my little anecdote earlier went down well, particularly as that had more to do with the topic at hand than the pointless debate that is currently raging. :)

Actually not but it seems that way since it isn't 100 percent super ultra SONY positive. Read these posts and you'll see I've been posting nothing but common sense.

Oh and I did read your story. Very funny.

I was thinking about it today, and I think I have finally figured out the one thing that really kills the enjoyment of GT5 for me.

I was thinking about all the things about it that I don't like, such as the half hearted implementation of most of the features (looking at you weather and day/night) and the fact that there's really only about 200 cars in the game with a huge supporting cast of cars that look like they're from a PS2 game. Couple that with the less than spectacular car feel through the controller (I'm not going to spend money on a wheel for a game that should be playable with stock equipment) and the absolutely terrible AI, and you would think that I'd found the cause of my dislike.

But no, none of those things, even put together, really kill the game for me. I can get past cars that look bad, limp controller feedback and spotty implementation of weather and time change. I can even get over the AI being so slow it's laughable. But there is something which I can not overlook.

This game claims to be the Ultimate Driving Simulator. It is sold as a racing game, and fancies itself to be quite the king of the console racing mountain. And yet, it lacks the most definitive name in sports car racing of all time.

Porsche.

Who has the most Le Mans 24 hour victories? Porsche. Who has the most Daytona 24 hour victories? Porsche. Who dominated Can-Am so much that it killed the series? Porsche. Who has the most GT wins in ALMS? Porsche. What manufacturer numerically dominates almost all track day lapping events? Porsche. Who has been a household name in sports car racing for 60 years? Porsche. There truly is no substitute.

Who is NOT in GT5? Porsche.

Even those who profess to be 'Porsche haters' have to admit, there is no other manufacturer that can equal the accomplishments of Porsche. No one has been as good for as long, and no one has a more pedigreed racing heritage than them. Sure, Ferrari has been racing for just as long, and they've dominated F1 for the past decade, but when it comes to sports cars, they've played second fiddle to the men from Stuttgart for half a century.

The lack of this incredible manufacturer in GT5 is a tragedy. What is PD's excuse? Other games have managed to secure licensing to have Porsche in them (Every Forza game, Need for Speed, TDU, PGR, etc.) so why couldn't PD manage? And don't try to say that Ruf counts, because they don't. There's no Ruf race cars, no Ruf premiums, and there's only 4, the newest of which is like 10 years old.

PD developed this game for years. They put untold millions into creating this experience, and they included a staggering variety of cars. How did they manage to miss one so glaringly obvious? The fact that they did, to me, screams that this game is unfinished as much as all the other problems put together. It's a shame, and it kills my desire to play the game knowing that there's such a gaping hole.

Am I alone in this feeling? Does anyone else feel that for a game concerning cars to be the 'Ultimate' anything, it should at least have the ultimate racing manufacturer?

I finally discovered why I don't like this post. Too many words to say "lack of Porsche".

Just for the record: I contacted Porsche Germany a while ago on the licensing thing, and they actually did answer me. The short version:

EA has the exclusive Porsche license ever since NFS Porsche Unleashed. EA also is allowed to sell sub-licenses to other game manufacturers, which is how Turn10 obtained a license for Forza. It seems there have been negotiations between EA and Polyphony Digital, but it seems the price EA put on the sub-license was so high that Sony/PD was not willing to pay it. I contacted EA as well, but I was sent from one person to the next one and never got any valuable information.

On a sidenote: NFS Porsche was released in March 2000, so if the license would be limited to 10 years, it would have run out before the release of GT5. Porsche never mentioned in their mails that the EA license is limited in time, and I don't see anything which indicates that.

What PD should have done is swap their Ferrari license for a Porsche license from EA. But I guess PD wanted the exclusivity, too... (at least on the PS3).

One obvious Problem With Porsche
The engine is in the back
Good for styling, but bad for:
  1. Driving Dynamics
  2. Engine cooling
  3. Weight Distribution
  4. Stability at speed

Basically, RR setup is hard to utilise for sports driving, unless you are a drifter:sly:

Ooh here comes the expert on Porsches who
claims Porsches don't handle properly. Let me ask you this?

You are missing out except it. Porsche is awesome
and there's about 34 of em in you know what game.

I guess that could apply to Forza defenders too.

No leaderboards.

The point is, does a game need Porsche to be any good?
There is no Super Mario Porsche.
There is no Call of Duty: Porsche Ops.
There is no World of Porschecraft.
And the Rubik's Cube is shaped like a Cube not a 911.

I like Porsche but will not ignore or rubbish a game because it's not there.

I also like the 1000 odd cars that I will choose to or never get the chance to drive in real life.

The game needs more competitive racing.
I would like more races that I wouldn't need to pick my lesser cars to have a challenge.

But 1 make does not make a game.

Might help if you found why porsche wasn't in the game instead of whining about it. And if that is the main reason for why this games doesn't work for you I feel sad for you(It's just a game).

I guess GT4 and the other GTs past are also ruined for you then.

^this. I don't like the point that there is no Porsche either, but why can't anyone accept the fact that PD is not going to add new cars to GT5. I'm sorry to say this, but everyone needs to stop posting wishlists.

EDIT: I'd also like to say that there is a whole Forza forum within GTPlanet, how about you all take a look at that.

Damn I can't believe people are eating this guy up for his opinions. GT5 didn't get ruined for me becuase the lack of Porsche, but alot of the things we all complained about. The first update made it alot better, but the next one might ruin it for me. Porsche has such a huge history in racing, and for it not to be in the "real driving simulator" it makes you wonder... How did Turn 10 get them if they had a deal with Ea. I'll tell ya it comes out of the back ends of bulls.

You're complaining about something that Polyphony can do absolutely nothing about. I understand your other complaints about the game and I'd understand if there weren't any licensing issues, but using something that Polyphony can't do anything about as your biggest complaint makes you sound like a Porsche fanboy (Regardless of whenever or not you are), which are usually looked down upon.

I wasn't sugesting that people make the choice between buying a console or putting food on the table. Just making the point that there are lots of things in life that people spend money on and to me the idea of buying two consoles that do pretty much the exact same thing and two games that do pretty much the exact same thing is just silly. Your spending hundreds of extra dollars to do the same thing just with a different name on the box.

Hey if you have so much disposable income that it's not an issue to you then great.

But the suggestion was that if your a fan of racing games then you should have every game on every platform. Yeah that's great if you have the money for it. But in the real world with mortgages and other bills that's not an option for lots of us.

There is nothing wrong with sticking with one favoured fanchise on one platform. It doesn't make anybody less of a racing fan.

As to the OP's point about Porsche.

As others have said you need to look at why PD cant get them into the game. They have said many times that they would love to have them in the game so I seriously doubt it's PD making the choice not to include them. I hardly think people are sitting around the office at PD saying "Hey, we have these hundreds of manufacturors but to Hell with Porsche there is no way we are putting them into our game!"

It's obviously not PD's decission to leave them out so why criticise them for something that they cannot control?

I dont like Porsche, plus there are RUF's which are Porsches but tuned to be better

I suggest that, when you get your driver's license, you somehow arrange to drive someone's 911. Then come back and edit your post... (Keeping the engine in the back of their flagship car is the single best decision Porsche ever made.)
