Finally Discovered Why I Don't Like GT5

I'm going to make a guess here that you've never driven a decent Porsche?

Jeremy Clarkson is a very funny guy. I love his show. I love the british sense of humor. But his taste in cars? His true skill as a driver? Well, let's just say I trust those other two british blokes a lot more. Frankly, Clarkson never liked Porsches because he's just way too clumsy a driver to learn how to drive them properly. (He admits quite frequently that he's pretty ham-fisted. I'm not judging him, that's fine, but Porsche are truly designed for skilled and nimble drivers. They definitely don't suit his driving style.)

I would love to see Porsche in GT6 (assuming there is a GT6). It is a major oversight and a bit of an embarrassment to the franchise. However, I do consider the RUFs to be an excellent 'substitute' and personally feel that the Yellowbird is of more historic significance than any comparable-era Porsche 911. I really miss the great variety of Porsches though. It would be so nice to have them (even having the RUFs and premiums would go a long way to pleasing us Porsche fans.)

Well said! 👍

I have to confess, Porsche have never had any appeal to me, so I don't miss them.

I would rather have seen more of the global classics than Porsche. That and the removal of about 75% of the Japanese variations.

It's absolutely funny how everyone is calling out the OP for stating his opinion, and then being told by others that his opinion is wrong and to stop crying. It's like everyone is crying about something that doesn't matter and nobody really cares.

To the OP, for a game that calls it's self the ultimate racing simulator, I'm having trouble coping with how absolute trash it is. It's like the wait for a new GT game made everyone so desperate that they'll take whatever rubbish PD put out and call it king. Hell, PD could have released an exact copy of Forza 3 (right down to the menus and nothing changed aside from the Forza logos being replaced with GT logos) and people would still say it was better than anything on the market (which is funny, since Forza 3 is trash as well, just slightly more enjoyable trash that is still trash nonetheless.)

But what do I know? I bought GT5.

The "ultimate racing simulator"... What? :boggled:

Also, I can't believe this thread is 5 pages...

how could you not love this??

i do miss porsche in the GT series. Would be great to race the 959 against the F40!!!

I was thinking about it today, and I think I have finally figured out the one thing that really kills the enjoyment of GT5 for me.

Am I alone in this feeling? Does anyone else feel that for a game concerning cars to be the 'Ultimate' anything, it should at least have the ultimate racing manufacturer?

Your very own disappointment thread? there is one right here, with folks that feel the same way.
Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

Well, I think GT5 should have included Porsche. I don't think PD/SONY lacks the money get a sub-licence from EA, since EA didn't use the licence properly (last time I saw a LMP model in a video game was more than 10 years a ago).

About RUF, here're all the models they've manufactured: CTR 1, CTR 2, CTR 3, RGT, BTR, BTR 2, Turbo R, R Kompressor, RTurbo, Rt 12, 3400S, 3600S, RK Coupe/Spyder, Dakara and eRUF Model A (electronic). Unfortunately, they don't have any race cars.

Don't you think this one should be in GT5? RUF CTR 3 '07 (built to celebrate 30th anniversary of original CTR '87).

Yeah sure how can they have an exclusive deal with EA when PGR and Forza all have Porsche.:odd:

TRY FORZA IS HAS OVER 35 PORSCHES

I would have to buy an XBox to do that I think, so I think I will stick with Porsche with a slice of RUF.

I raced the hell outta that car for almost a year in a couple of ALMS series the guys I race with put together in FM3. Almost know that car like the back of my hand but there was still some extra it surprised me with. Of course I had my own livery but the guts were the same.

An avid console racing gamer should have both systems. If you're a fan of racing.

Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 is in Forza 3...

Don't you guys watch any of my videos ;) Check at the end...
I normally drive the GT car but twice during the season drivers have to switch up so that was my time to drive the LMP

I like GT5, but I am frustrated with it because it could have been SO MUCH MORE. (see sig for example).

Not having Porsche may be a problem for some people and I'll admit GT5 would be better with a few premium Porsches in the mix, but that is WAY DOWN on the list of things that need fixing in GT5. I'd say 87 in a list of 100 things GT5 needs fixing.

The Ruffs are fun to drive, get yourself a GOOD wheel and drive all the Ruffs offline. You will be amazed at how well the force feedback communicates to you that you are driving a rear engine PORCHE, not just a "Ruff"..

GT5's physics engine is top notch, but I doubt it's so good that a Ruff will not give you the driving experience a Porsche would. In real life I wonder how much difference there would be.

I have a heavily used G25 I bought new when they first came out, go get a used one or an old stock new one somewhere or get a G27, a Fanatec GT2, or any other GOOD wheel. I'm not talking about a DFGT or DFpro, I had one and they aren't worth the $$- spend more fore quality. If you race a lot the $ will pay for itself by how long a good wheel and pedal set will last.

You'll think differently about GT5 after you use a good wheel, I promise.

No, but seriously. How can the lack of one manufacturer ruin a whole game?

Sure, it's a lot of stuff that I don't like with GT5, alot, but I think the the lack of Porshe is a minor problem.

Another pointless discussion that leads to nothing.

It could possibly lead to OP getting a proper wheel. It should anyway.

What a misleading thread title - blatant false advertising. I came in here expecting to find all-out war again and instead have stumbled upon the Porsche appreciation society.

I remember a mate of my Dads getting one when I was about 8 or 9 - a 911 Turbo. he put a tenner on the dash and said "If you can reach that, you can have it" (A tenner was alot in 1979) Then he put his foot down (standing start) and promptly spun-out in the puddle he obviously hadn't noticed. The tenner fell off the dash onto my knee in the process.

He didn't say much after that. I kept the tenner though and learned that adults don't cry when they embarrass themselves.

Good times :)

sucks that porsche arent in it.

copyright can be a bitch

we have ferrari and lamborghini now. Rejoice

Fair point. but missing one manufacture is hardly a reason to hate the game!

That's what I love about GT5. Make a criticism and the GT5 fanboys come out in force.

I agree that not having Porsche in the game doesn't "ruin" it, but PD should have got a sub-license. If they can team up with TM to roll out a $600+ wheel, then they could have found a way to do it. Bottom line is they didn't want to spend the cash to do so.

Meanwhile, GT5 has WAY too many Skylines in it. Seriously, WTF?

This game has some very serious problems, and the lack of one manufacturer is the least of them.

Good point, but RUF is an okay substitute (the BTR's are awesome).

Anyone find it ironic that the Fanatec Porsche wheel is one of the best for GT5?

Just for the record: I contacted Porsche Germany a while ago on the licensing thing, and they actually did answer me. The short version:

EA has the exclusive Porsche license ever since NFS Porsche Unleashed. EA also is allowed to sell sub-licenses to other game manufacturers, which is how Turn10 obtained a license for Forza. It seems there have been negotiations between EA and Polyphony Digital, but it seems the price EA put on the sub-license was so high that Sony/PD was not willing to pay it. I contacted EA as well, but I was sent from one person to the next one and never got any valuable information.

On a sidenote: NFS Porsche was released in March 2000, so if the license would be limited to 10 years, it would have run out before the release of GT5. Porsche never mentioned in their mails that the EA license is limited in time, and I don't see anything which indicates that.

So I should buy Xbox for one game, then pay for the online content?

PS3 has some excellent racing games, enough to easily look past Forza. I've never played Forza, not even a demo. Not really interested either. XBOX Live charges monthly, is full of modders and really? You think I should have to deal with that for just 1 game? Not a chance. :)

enjoy the game for what it is not moaning for what it isnt

However, in the real world, where people have things like mortgages and a need to keep food on their families table the idea of buying two consoles that do pretty much the exact same thing so that you can play two games that do pretty much the exact same thing is a little silly.

Forza isn't even compareable to GT... T10 can't get very basics right. Look what they have done to Nurburgring Nordscheleife :x

👍 Yes. GT5 has a lot of issues as a game. But that aside, its a lot of fun as a driving simulator.

I might have considered buying an Xbox for Forza 3, but Id rather burn in hell than pay the evil empire a monthly fee.

I've never really cared much about Porsche, but the gripe here is with the modern business world really. I always say this, people in suits ruin everything. Seriously, if people only wore t-shirts and jeans we would have all the premium Porsches we could handle, and EA and Activision would still be cool like they were back in the day.

If people didn't wear suits we would be dancing on a hilltop with a rainbow, holding hands with all sorts of different people and singing a song of harmony. But suits exist. So go petition Moores to stop ruining the world, it's their fault there's no Porsches in GT5.
