Thanks for the help. I guess the poll has settled that little matter. Thailand it is!

Do you have any first world problems of your own that need help with?

I'd go with the trip to Thailand personally. Wheels come and go, but experiencing a new culture and landscape outweighs the cost of the wheel. Plus, it'll be a chance to meet the significant other's family :)

That is a very good point, although I went out there last October and met the family and the culture is something I half live with. It is a beautiful place and I'm really torn on this one.

Dude, Thailand everytime.

Get some sun!

I would give nearly anything to go somewhere like Thailand

But....but.........wheel....

This is tough. My better judgement is saying Thailand but my inner GT addict is saying wheel & seat. I'm going to let the poll decide and then remove my OP in a week for others to post their first world problems.

Go to Thailand. Hit the bars and some thai girl will volunteer to be your racing seat.

If it's other than Thailand, I'd definitely go for the trip than having the wheels and seat because... Well it can wait. But with this case, I'd say to myself I'd rather have the wheels and seat. There's nothing in Thailand that excites me. Other than the foods there... Tom Yam :D

 I'll be with the wife though so pulling for the sake of using as furniture may be out of the question.

Thing is, I'll be living there as soon as her degree is finished in a few years, so it's not like I will never see Thailand again. I'm going to be a resident!

The wheel is winning so far but I know there's still a week to go. Once again, poll decides.

This is killing me now. I feel I must contribute to it because I entered the thread. But I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO CHOOSE!!! :scared:

I'm just going to close my eyes, click one, constantly push the up and down buttons and select one!

Just vote. You don't have to comment as it maybe something you'd struggle with too. You enter, you should vote, right?

AARRGGHH!! I evened the numbers! What will you do if the poll is 50/50 when it closes?

I've been to Hong kong and China for a week each + I also have a "cockpit" so I think im qualified to give an opinion here.

Trip to Thailand will be epic, and you will have heaps of stories to tell for years and years to come + plenty of experiences to share with people.

Personally I think any chance you have to travel, you should take. The experience and adventure you gain is just priceless when converted to experience and perspective that you add to your every day life.

Having a GT cockpit is awesome but really, its far better to take the travel and build a cockpit on the cheap out of some scrap wood and a car seat from an abandoned wreck.

I voted for the trip to Thailand as I'm sure the experience will be amazing, taking in all the beautiful sites and the new atmosphere. Who knows, a G27 might even be cheaper down the line too 👍

I would have guessed let a drunk Shem decide.

I would not decide this drunk!

That really puts things into perspective.

The set up thing I was going to part build myself but the main kit I still need to purchase. The trip, as I see it now, has no certain plan and could be epic or very average.

Valid point but it's not a new experience for me, I've spent time there before but in a different context; sigh seeing not chilling with a beer by the river.

Still a tough choice for me. I really appreciate everyone's views on this.

Good point. But they will become harder to find. Like the G25.

How is this even question?

Thailand, duh.

Gaming toys are never as awesome as travel. Simply because travel generally has a lot of awesome memories connected, especially if you have a camera.

Well maybe go somewhere different in Thailand, and make sure this time to relax with some beer by a river :)

There's always Ebay :sly:

Again I agree here.

Every time I have put myself in a position that is outside my normal life / comfort zone I'm rewarded with epic memories and experiences.

It always feels hard and annoying at the time, but afterwards im always glad i did it.

The point here Shem, you can get a cockpit for almost nothing.. Find a construction site and flog the offcuts out of the skip... then just pickup a chair from the wreckers... no need to have an epic cockpit setup from an expensive site.

A great friend of mine once said.
They can take your possessions and money but they can never take your experiences, you will always be able to treasure them.

As much as I'd want a Wheel/cockpit, I wouldn't turn down a trip to Thailand. But on the other hand, you said you've been before, so maybe it wont be as exciting this time (I'm sure it will), so yeah.

My input :sly:

Am I the only fan of the cockpit option? Thailand's not going anywhere... :sly:

Buy the cockpit on a credit card that offers Airmiles and put that towards the flights next year!

Buy a wheel and seat that only you will enjoy, or a vacation that you and the missus will both enjoy and which she will be extremely thankful to you for?

No contest. You can always get a racing wheel down the line, buy a secondhand racing seat and put the two together... :D

It's beating my last trip there which will be hard. I don't know how to top that.

It's the main parts I lust after, the PVC piping here is cheap as chips and I have the skills to fashion a good rig. Even my Ikea chair could be rigged to it, it's the wheel, pedals and shifter I require.

That isn't something I'll forget in a hurry, although it makes my choice harder. 👍

Like I said up there, it'll be hard to top my last visit.

Credit card me no have. Like first AT statement.

She'll go anyway but it's whether I go or not is what's getting to me.

I was thinking wheel, like someone said Thailand's not going anywhere. Besides if you already went and are moving there eventually it's not like once in a lifetime.

Tough one Shem :(

You could go to Thailand and have a blast OR end up with Dengue Fever and laid up for months recovering wishing you had a wheel & cockpit to make it easier...

I say take the wheel. You said yourself that you're going there to live soonish anyway so grab the wheel and use it excessively whilst she's in Thailand and its a win-win; time off from the missus AND epic GT5 toy glory! Wotcher waiting for!!!

This.

If you'll be moving in long-term in a few years you might as well have the wheel to pass the time.

Well I will take an other argumentation:

I voted Thai, because:
I think beeing alone with lots of beer and just GT might render you crazy :D!
After reading some of your posts in the past, in which you explained your situation, I think it would be beneficial for your psycological health to go to thai, get sun (extremely important to be in a good mood), not be alone for a week or two, and not drink as much as you would alone, and you will gather energy for the next few months.
Otherwise you will sit all day long in a dark room, drinking beer and playing GT (does sound good though:D), ate unhealty food and will be in worse shape than before the holidays.

That's my take on it.

Arrrgghhh...it's such a hard one to call. And the missus had dengue not so many years back, so liking your opinion Heather. Apex to you, racer.

Was not an image I can see on my ISP, but I'll check it out tomorrow on my work PC.

Will be there for the long term so this is why I see going as a meh choice.

Being alone may F me up but time spent with GT, in the past, has never caused me issues, and solved more than it's caused. GT is meditation for me.

OK. Mrs Shem has just said that we'll talk in the morning. Maybe she'll go back to Thai and I'll go back to London. Neither will I get a G27 or a holiday in Thai. Really crazy situation now....and I took Fry's advise and went to the party......that didn't help, Red Label JW on tap..... dancing girls a plenty.....left before 11pm! (To tempting)
