Do people automatically reach for the G27 because Fanatec doesn't do much marketing?

I bought the G27 primarily for iRacing. Most of my friends doing both real world Spec Miata and iRacing use a G27 or G25. I figured that it would be easier to share wheel settings with each other if we were all on the same wheels. Far more wheel input settings in iRacing than in GT5.

I just signed up for iRacing simply to drive Miata's at Mid Ohio. I need to learn left foot braking looking for that last few tenths around Mid-O. I tried using practice sessions to learn this, but almost crashed the car a number of times in the process. IRacing is a cheap way for me to get the brain and muscles trained to at least do the motion and wrecking cars online is much cheaper and safer.

I've used a pad ever since GT1, but I also spent a bit of GT5rologue using a G25. I still use a pad now, but only down to cost - I had to sell the G25 to earn some money back and can't really justify the expense for a wheel these days, as I tend to only play maybe once or twice a week at most. But, when I used a G25 (for the first GT Academy event), like others it took me a day or two of practicing to get used to it - only maybe after four or five days of using it was I able to match my times on the pad. But after that, once I'd got used to it, I was faster with the G25 and like others have said, it feels significantly better too - you have much more feel for the car and overall it's much more enjoyable. You can literally feel the tyres beneath you on the road, and can feel when they're about to lose grip, so you can correct anything before the slide happens. Stuff like that is more difficult on a pad.

That's not to say you can't be quick with a pad - but I think there is no doubt that a pad user with enough experience with a wheel can be even quicker - that's what I found. When I was using a pad in the GT Academy event, I couldn't get close to the times I needed to be making. Maybe half a second to a second off the pace. A week after buying a G25 and I was only a tenth of a second away from qualifying for the UK finals. (I didn't make it, but that's besides the point )

My fastest was a 2:14.49 and Nepalli ran a 2:14.2 when he was ahead. The aliens (you know who you are) will likely run high 2:12s for pole time and I'll be looking at the replays and scratch my head, saying "How in the world can they carry more speed into corners than I can? My car doesn't grip like that!"

Tsukuba, I fully intended to do half-and half from the start. I had only just gotten the wheel 3 days before that, and had little practice on the track anyway.

Laguna Seca, I was a tad faster with the wheel, but had no consistency at all, so when I crashed twice on lap 1, I think a lot of people in my spot would have unplugged their wheel, too.

Spa was 100% done with the wheel, and save from a minor screw-up at Eau Rouge combined with a poor start off the line, I was actually much more consistent, and quite a bit faster. I mainly just suffered from lack of practice. I was actually able to (somewhat) keep up with RT until my tires started wearing down.

So I have absolutely no idea why you're calling me out here.

Do people automatically reach for the G27 because Fanatec doesn't do much marketing? Same price point, better company (smaller boutique shop dedicated to racing equipment vs massive multi-national making mice and remotes next to their wheels in a Chinese factory), and better products.
I can understand getting a DFGT because the price point is great.
But I can say my last wheel was a Logitech because there was no choice. When I weighed the G27 against the Fanatec GT3 + awesome club-sport pedals... I can't see how any sane person would go with the G27.

The only reason to get Fanatec over Logitech, imo, are the Clubsport pedals and xbox support. I don't have an xbox, and I'm not about to sped an extra 100+ dollars for Clubsports, as great as what they apparently are.

Also, I don't trust Fanatec's customer service and shipping length, based on what I've heard. Because of all of that, Fanatec wasn't even in the equation for me. It was basically G27 vs. T500.

True and the hardest part on my end by watching them is not figuring out what they are doing but trying to replicate it. I actually have a theory that it's the view I'm using that's holding me back but I need to test that out first.

On a side note, just to say it again, taking car pics at Nurburgring GP, noooooooo! Pick a different track where the headlights are down.

I guess maybe I should have went into more detail.
Right after the "tuning prohibited" option came out, me and Dr Watson were running the Kaz GTR around Nurb online, so after some random accused Dr of "cheating" because oil change and miles made his car quicker, he left for oil change and came back. (we had tuning prohibited)
When he came back, he claimed he couldn't go on track, and that it must be because he added chassis rigidity, I never bothered to actually check, because it made sense.

Either way the car under-steers, so I won't be adding it, because it compounds more under-steer, bt in any case, I wouldn't try it out with a car I can't replace without forking out real cash.

Also pretty much agreed on all the wheel vs DS3 statements, there's a transition period, and it's rough, but you'll not regret making the change, especially once your times drop.

And I suspect up to a full second somewhere like Spa from the extra 6 ponies, but it's hard to tell because when breaking a car in it's always "learning curve" time also. But a constant extra 6 HP is definitely going to make a difference on any track, imo.

For anyone looking to improve your wheel time.....record yourself racing. You will be surprised at what kinda moves you make with the wheel. Self awareness is key.

I just registered for Carracerptp car #16. I listed my car color as unknown. Is that okay? I will most likely know by tonight. Worst case scenario, it will be black wheels and tires. Thanks.

I just jumped on for half an hour and hit 2:15.5. I have never put in a serious effort to learn this track (never raced it online actually) so this will be my first time. If I can hit 2:14.5 by Sunday I will be happy. Not having to fiddle with tuning really makes practicing more enjoyable though. I sure could use a replay to check out because I'm like a lost puppy through turn two. Looking forward to getting in on a practice session.

Think of switch from a DS3 like to a wheel like removing a band aid; doing it slowly only prolongs the pain. Ditch the controller and commit to the wheel full time.

Each division has 16 spots in total. The number of spots filled does not correspond to the number of driver/car pictures posted. (Not everyone who is registered has submitted their picture yet.) The OP (or the second or third post) has a registration link. Click the registration button and fill out the form it brings you to. This is how you register. You don't have to have the DLC or the car to register.

I'm not very fast but I am reliable ...would expect to make all races. Am teamed up with Grayfox in another series ...sure he will vouch for me... in both respects! Will try & do picture shortly.
