Very wise words, and yes you can own both games still givning them critique, i criticize gt5 and forza series all the time, so what? Does that mean i should be playing need for speed instead.

Nothing wrong with criticism or hopes.

I would quite like a Forza with weather and Nurb quality looks.

Think I'd fancy a GT with livery editor and great customisation.

Both series would gain from it and more importantly we would all benefit.

No opinion on Forza - I do not have an X-Box, I prefer the multi use of PS3 including Blue Ray and free online access for racing (no subscription required).

On PS3 I enjoy a number of different racing games including GT5, F1 2010, Ferrari Challenge, etc.

Too bad Forza is exclusive to X-Box...

As an owner of both consoles I would prefer my titles to be on PS3.
Purely because of better hardware support.

Now, I agree that some of this thread is childish and petty, but you really need to qualify that statement with a "sometimes" or "can look" because let's face it, FM3 NEVER looks as bad as that picture that was taken in GT5. Doesn't happen. Ever. And yet GT5 can look like that. All. The. Time.
Granted, GT5 can also look like this:

And FM3 never looks that good. Ever.
"Never" is a big word. These are pictures I found from FM.net

The owner of the Carrera GT photo said that the only editing done was a slight cut of the picture.

I have both games Forza 3 and GT5 and I like to play them no matter the flaws. I don't loook at negatives but I have read plenty negatives about GT5 in this thread going over and over the same thing over again. What I didn't say is that I like both games... Who is with me....?

But i do consider fm3 to be a broken game, same with gt5. They miss many features that exister in previous games, funny uh?

I don't consider either game to be broken. They may be missing features and/or content, and may suffer from some poor design choices, but that doesn't mean either title is "broken".

Both games function as intended and essentially work without game-breaking issues, bugs and glitches. Therefore not broken.

It's such an over-used word when describing games that it loses meaning.

I have more than a passing interest in both games.

Biggest disappointment for me in recent times.....Dirt3. Graphically a very nice looker. Gameplay, didn't know what it wanted to be. Certainly not rally.
The best part was gymkhana. Though not my cup of tea.

Forza 4..... Yes looking forward to it.
F1 2011 is going to interupt my Forza time massively. Big F1 fan.

Guess what I'm trying to say is that GT is far from the worst game ever.

Forza, at the moment isn't my most anticipated game. F1 is.

Just a fan of the genre.

Yes, but some of the posts would have you believe that Forza 3 has not got any problems. I am too mature to be looking up and at the negatives in the best two sims on consoles.

And yet you only called out 'forza fanboys'.. maybe you missed people like akirraacecombat who repeatedly posts false information about 1 game and toots the horn of the other?

I love both franchises. I've been playing both since their first ones (I skip on Prologue) but GT5 left a bad taste in my mouth even though under the right conditions like premiums and Nurb look absolutely stunning.

I myself try to mention both pros and cons of both latest games but Forza's issues tend to be blown out of proportion. Things like no working gauges in cockpit views or panel gap issues with livery editor don't happen on the norm. I'm not sure if there's a full list of cars with issues, I'd actually like to see one if it does exist. I think a bigger issue with FM3 was the AWD dominance online and the poorly implemented drag racing because many of us expected more. The issues in GT5 do happen more on the norm. Like no cockpit for 800+ cars means no cockpit for 800+ cars, the grind is still there, albeit much better now that the seasonals are here, same can be said for the car shuffling in the dealerships since OCD helped a bit, and the like. And the positives would be that I still believe, of all games I've tried, under the right conditions... nothing is on par when GT5 shines, cuz when it shines... it shines! Just a shame that's not the norm..

I didn't know that. I thought the view was lower to the ground.

In a premium cockpit, when switched to bumper the cockpit just disappears then. Easily checked I suppose.

I prefer cockpit too for immersion reasons.

I would interested to see this as well, because I always remember it being lower AND forward in bumper cam. Not just like cockpit w/o panels.

Can anyone show this?

I like this post. Guy doesn't own a 360 nor Forza and doesn't pretend to do so. However for you to "prefer" the things you say on the PS3 you have to have some decent experience on the other to say that. Bluray , of course ,is excluded but the online feature of Xbox Live is well worth the cash over what Sony is doing now with the PS3. I hope one day it gets there though.

Also Race Pro, only on the 360, is probably the best physics in a racing game on any console. I say that without having playing Ferrari Challenge so I acknowledge that caveat.

Sad to see that.

I might get a holiday when I create a countdown thread on the eve of release.

Just the two days please, whilst I sort out my liveries.

That is meant as a joke and not trying to offend anyone.

There are many cars with "cockpit issues" in FM3. I'd say about half of the original car count have some kind of issue, including :
  • Dashboards not working at all.
  • Badly calibrated gauges (displaying biased/erroneous information).
  • Dashboards not visible because of bad camera position.
  • Reversed mirrors.
  • Even a fuel gauge moving backwards
  • And of course a rotating driving wheel on the Citroen C4 :sly:
And I'm not making this up. There is a huge number of cars with those "cockpit issues". About half of the race cars have completely non-working digital displays. Event the career-gifted cars have those issues damnit

I mean they didn't even try to hide them.

Edit : Gotta love Luminis vegetables metaphor from last page 👍

Well, the important gauges worked, rpm and speed... well, not on the dead cockpits.. but the real question would be, would you rather not have that view in those cars then?

I loved when the turbo cars had boost gauges in cockpit view, and the race car cockpits were nice

And yes there were some very weird glitches in there, lol

I'm with you but the same could be said about the standards. I rather have my 98 ITR and drive it with no cockpit, then it not be in the game. I consider my self a hard core cockpit lover. Dosen't matter if it's during hot lapping or competition that's my view no hud. 👍 Any one who says the standards can't get wheel upgrade cockpits etc. I will be the first person to agree with you its bull crap, but I still rather have the standards in. On a driving aspect I'm very glad I get to drive them. 👍

In some instances FM doesn't look as good as GT, but for 80% of the cars GT5 doesn't even come close to looking as good as FM3.

.

And if you chose not to quote percentages but count the cars, the numbers wouldn't look that dramatic.

Feel free to correct me, but FM3 does not feature full 3d interiors _at all_.

So that's 100% vs 80% by your maths, isn't it?

Funny i've never in my two years with FM3 saw any cockpit that wasn't working properly.. Examples?

Sorry, wouldn't look that dramatic? If I said of the 1000 cars in GT5 800 of them don't look as good as any car in FM3. I think that looks just as dramatic. It's just maths after all.

And so what if it doesn't feature full 3D interiors, that is immaterial to the cars in FM3 looking better than the standard cars in GT5. So your going to have to explain the 100% vs 80% a little better.

Off the top of my head.
  • The career-gifted 908, career-gifted BMW M3 race car, HKS Evo, and all Super-GT Nissan GTR cars, among many others, have completely non-working displays.
  • Most NSX display wrong/biased tachometer speed, same with R5 Turbo and many other cars.
  • At least one of the TVR have a dashboard completely obstructed by the driving wheel due to the camera position, again, this can be seen on other cars.
  • The Twingo and FTO display MPH instead of KPH, which is, again, a fault shared by other cockpits.
  • I believe it was the Esprit or maybe one of the MX5 which has a reversed mirror (rear view mirror I think). Admittedly, this is a not a common fault, but it's a most disturbing one.
There's just too many of 'em for me to ignore. And I love FM3. I think it's one of the best game I've ever played. I just can't ignore those bugs when there's too many of them.

Just so you know, I play in cockpit view with HUD off. So obviously I'm gonna notice these faults so much more.

This video comes from a modded game, FYI.
