in real life yet most will talk about snap oversteer or how realistic you can trail brake on cars they've never driven.

LOVE this!!!
One example is the implementation of the clutch. Neither game does it exactly true to life (since neither game will actually stall the car) but what GT5 has in effect is a complete farce. FM3 feels very realistic although it could use some tweaking but GT5 feels very video gamey. Yet people talk as if its' just like real life. Making me scratch my head and wonder if any of these people actually driven a standard car in their life. I'm talking about the good kind of standard car by the way.

Anyone can race in real life. Since you're so proud of it, might as well add it to your sig of digital racing.

I myself tried to get into it but I don't have the time, money, space for a race car, nor a track close enough to where I live. I do push the **** out of my cars (and others when asked, literally I've had friends with GSR swapped Honda Civics and track modified E30 M3s (former owner was track instructor) and nose heavy overpowered VWs hand me their keys and ask me for my opinion on the car demanding I go 10/10ths.)

And someone on a board I'm on races his VW R32 for a few years now and says the R32 handles nothing like it does in GT5. Modeling every car these games have you'll have instances where it feels good and right and others where it feels bad and nothing like it does... like... GT5's Veyron. Just check pros or even the Stig's time with it on TG! Look at how fast of a time it put down and how close it is to the cars listed, then take similar cars on any track and see how much of a whale that car is even on racing softs

One of the reasons why I love these 2 franchises in particular is because I can take any of a slew of cars on tracks I've never driven on and romp the crap out of them. If it feels real tome then I'm golden but I highly doubt that 99.99999999% of GT and Forza players ever raced those cars in real life yet most will talk about snap oversteer or how realistic you can trail brake on cars they've never driven.

You can find out looking on videos of people driving it for real how a car should handle. I can spot different handling characteristics in cars just through onboard videos. An easy example, drive the Yellowbird in the game and see on YouTube one being driven, the handling is very similar in GT5.

In GT5 you can stall the engine with a handbrake if I remember correctly. Clutch implementation has been dumbed down I think for GT5 to avoid giving an advantage, like in Forza there is a huge advantage using a button for clutch. I have not driven with clutch with a wheel on both games though.

Also they probably dumbed it down because they want to sell there licensed wheel that doesn't have a clutch.

I have a question for you guys. How many of you hardcore Forza players will buy the new Forza licensed stuff from Fanatec?

Dumbed which clutch down Forza or GT?

Are you buying Forza.

Of course you forgot to mention there is also a huge penalty in Forza too if you don't shift correctly, grinding of gears, over-reving of engine and messing it up, this damage affects your car. In GT5, from the last time I played, one doesn't have to worry about any of that. At least it never effected me.

GT, and i'm considering buying Forza 4. Although i'd really like to have the new Fanatec gear that lets you switch steering wheel types for iRacing. As much of a let down as FM3 was for me. Forza 4 would have to be pretty good to get me to buy it.

I don't know about GT5 mechanical damage regarding clutch (Grinding gears) because I have never used clutch in the game or found out about it. Forza regarding leaderboards, you don't have to worry about mechanical damage and damage is an option like in GT5 for online races in Forza right?

I wish I had taken that approach with GT5. Could have saved my self some serious money. But then I wouldn't be in the forums expressing an opinion based on hearsay about GT5. I put together a setup that put GT5 and Forza on the same playing field. Something I we can say 90 percent of the critics haven't. But you better believe , that's what I'll being doing for GT6, that's if the good Lord let's me see the age of 50.

I already have a Fanatec 911 Turbo S so the only thing I would buy is the upgraded 6-speed shifter.

I found the clutch in GT a bit on, off too.

The removable rim Fanatec is not Xbox compatible.

Your better off sticking to PC and getting that wheel than compromising your wheel choice for one game. IMHO.

The CSR Elite will also have a removable rim. It just wont be a quick release.

Yeah I joked about that on the wheel forum.

Someone posted you have to power off the wheel and unscrew it and bolt on a new one.

I said my G27 and GT2 does that now.

But now i'm sure Fanatec will make other wheels that actually have the buttons on them

I know the removable rim Fanatec is not Xbox compatible. I almost never use a steering wheel for either game because it just does not give me a real enough feel.

I prefer the CSW wheel due to it looking better and also the hot-swap will be just awesome. Shame it is not 360 compatible and the one that is does not look as good but has the same base, must be a Microsoft XID restriction. I might end up getting a G27 considering how much cheaper it is to buy, it is less than £180 for the set at play.com and easily mountable on desk.

Main racing game I will play on 360 will be Forza and I decided I will invest in a more high end wheel when I'm no longer a student so I will hold off buying a CSW for a few years yet.

Can I ask how do you find the G27 compared to the GT2 in GT5 and also how different does the GT2 feel in Forza? Have you ever owned the DFGT?

So you drive with a pad? Does the same go for iRacing if that is even possible?

I drive with an analog stick on console games now days because it's annoying to me that neither game can get the physics right. In my signature i state that I use a Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS V2 wheel with Clubsport Pedals. That's what I use for iRacing. If you try to use a controller in iRacing your just asking for trouble.

Depends on how you get on with the feedback I guess. I play PC and PS3 racing games all with a wheel unless it is pure arcade and not meant to be played with a wheel. I'm about a second slower or more with a pad and a lot less consistent and there is no feel or as much fun as with a wheel. rFactor you can play with keyboard and drive reasonably well :sly:. I like the feel GT5 gives in my DFGT compared to most other games I tried, only Ferrari Virtual Academy does as good if not better job of force feedback with that wheel I would say. That is based on netKar Pro.

Sorry shiny but I wouldn't feel confident in giving physics opinions if using a pad or listening to them.

No disrespect.

Oh ok. What was your weapon of choice on Xbox?

I had a Fanatec GT2, then it broke. Then decided that I was probably going to sell my 360 in the near future so I bought a GT3 RS V2. That was like a half year ago and haven't sold my 360 yet. It's been sitting dormant for probably 3/4's of a year though. Got annoyed paying for Live. I already pay for internet. Paying to play on internet that I pay for doesn't seem very fair to me. And I think microsoft shouldn't need to worry about money for servers.

edit:
not to mention the 2 extra 360's I had to buy because of the RLOD

Google's products are buggy as all hell.
QFT

WHAT?!?!?!? Serious??
Most FM3 cockpits are pretty much fully functional (except quite a few buggy ones). Of course rev meters and tachometers work, but fuel gauges work, digital clocks display the current time (IRL), miles/kph counters display race distance (and total distance but with a bug which randomize it every race start), gears displays work when available, boost gauges work, basically every thing that is simulated by the game is displayed (so no oil pressure/temp for example). They even have a randomized temperature display (external air temp completely random each time, but in line with typical temperatures of track location, just not synced online, yeah I even tested that :p).

Most GT5 cockpits only have rev meters, tachometers, and boost gauges working. Some have working clocks displaying the in-game time, or gears displays, but none of them have working fuel gauges. Well, none that I tested of course. And that's pretty much it, nothing really fancy I tell you. Even the GT-R's MFD is quite basic.

You know that there is the make called "Acura" in the game with the TSX-model. So there is the Accord, same car, but with a different name.

Unfortunately there arent any older Accords.

I just like it when games have my cars.

It'd just, you know, steal your information without telling you ;)

And save it for years to come with a chance of others seeing it. IF that's not the Perfect Console in today's world I'm not sure what is.

HBK
wtf are you talking about? Of course Turn10 doesn't advertise "hey, we don't have proper pit-stops!", pretty much like PD does not advertise "hey, we don't have damage!". What's the point? All games have flaws. Do you seriously imply that having some modeling errors like a slightly off Enzo nose or some slightly misplaced headlights are GLARING FLAWS? I mean, SERIOUSLY?

Not sure what your point is. Everyone with a tad bit of knowledge of how game development works and a slight interest in the franchise knew we would be getting 800 "standards". We saw it coming, there was leaks, heck even Turn10 commented on that! Doesn't change the fact that it sucks, and show how weird PD priorities are for their game.

Yeah, standards sucks, I know we're all getting tired of hearing such things, but this is still the truth. Having 800 PS2/PSP cars in a PS3 game is just plain wrong. And don't try to derail this into some "hey the S2000 is wrong from FM1 and still is", because even if there are still some modeling errors, we still get an S2000 with high detail modeling (in photomode), a fully functional cockpit, damage, and customization (both visual and mechanical).

Do I need to remind you that, to this day, no freakin' cockpit in GT5 has a functional fuel gauge?

But hey, at least you can activate the wipers! And honk!

If it helps him believe what he spouts of course he's serious. I've argued him on other threads like this. It's not worth it really cause they don't acknowledge research or facts. If they enjoy GT5 so much I don't see why they feel the need to defend it. We obviously don't see the enjoyment they do with it.

It depends on what features you like. No body can deny the smoothnes of gt5 physics. Forza 3 had horrible comparing to gt5. I would say gt5 over forza 3, just because the quality of the game feels better. But overall, i dont like any of these game, because they have absurd flaws that shouldnt be in from the first beginning, not to mention features that was removed from forza 3 comparing to forza 2, and gt4 comparing to gt5. The fact that forza 3 drag racing was a joke makes me puke, and the fact that gt5 is missing drag racing makes me even more sick.

Solution? Well, if fm4 will "have it all", i brake my gt5 and forza 3 disc in half, send it to PD and Turn 10 with a nice letter on the behalf of gtp. If fm4 is as bad as forza 3 and gt5, i return the game, and then, as i wrote before, start gaming on PC.

(you will get visual proofs of my primitive acts)

So, every game should be criticized as much as GT5? I'm sorry, I'm just not as fuzzed about by the modelling of a dozen cars being off as I was by the standard cars. What am I supposed to do? Make some stuff up to complain about, just for the hell of criticizing something? Because that'd be "fair"?
Well, let me tell you a sad tale, since discussion of facts with you seems to be so much trouble.

In 2009, a game touted to be the definitive game changer in racing was released. I was rather excited over what I heard about it because I had to many problems with the predecessor's livery editor, as had a number of other people, with layers shifting around when simply taking the car out for a photo shoot. And this was really bad with locked liveries you couldn't fix, because every race, they would shift more and more and there was nothing you could do about it... And this was just one of the problems, some of which were very serious, such as simply scrolling through your garage causing the game to crash, or flipping through the cars in the Auction House. And this was very bad, because if your game crashed in the Auction House, you could inadvertently find yourself permabanned from the online service.

But this was all different, I was told. Liveries would be awesome sauce, and you could paint over the existing liveries of race cars! Needless to say, I was stoked. So I got it, started racing... racing felt noticeably better than the predecessor, even with the cheap - not pricewise - plastic FFB wheel. Started doing liveries, liveries were incredible, a thousand layers on top and each side, and everything stayed put!

But then, things got a little less happy-joy. As I began making and buying decals and vinyl elements, the sorting began to bog. And bog. And BOG. And as I began to shoot pics and amass them, the system bogged even more. Scrolling through them was taking minutes just to get to something! And worse, you had to use their ridiculous uploading system which to my dismay was mucking up my images. And it was taking a LONG time. And this was AFTER a file system fix.

When it finally got to the point that I was up till FOUR in the MORNING struggling to get a handful of pics uploaded to their idiot site and then downloaded in some vain attempt to make them look HALFWAY like they did on my console, and I was only HALFWAY through the process after many HOURS of this nonsense, I threw in the towel. Who has forever and a day to slog through this mess when the same thing can be accomplished on the PS2 - that's Playstation TWO - in an hour or two? And not just 18 pics at a time, but as many as you care to shoot? USB stick to PC... easy peasy.

But... yeah, you know, Forza never really did have any problems, probly never will. After all, having Standards and Premium cars together in a race in GT5 will format your hard drive, I hear...
