So Alonso loses his pole. I guess that was to be expected. Justice? Yes, because the rules were broken. And reading what Digi has said I do agree totally. It just does'nt add up what Ron Dennis tried to explain. Like Digi said it was in the hope of not getting Alonso knocked back on the grid.

I'm still susprised at the tone of his statement regarding Hamilton. Dennis seemed to be laying the blame with him and I found it hard to believe that Hamilton would agree with this (though I guess Dennis could'nt say "Yeah, Alonso cheated". Maybe he wasn't even informed? Personally if I were Hamilton I'd be very pissed off. But he's certainly a bigger man than I (well, probably in this context - I personally do not like being anyones fall guy) but he's got a strong position in the race and I don't think the Ferrari's are as fast as Hamilton and the McLaren.

By the sound of it the stewerds did seem lenient to Alonso. Surely a deliberate act like that demands something more? Maybe it just meant McLaren losing theire construction points.

I'm sure Alonso will make a few places. But the BMW's look strong. And I hate to say it but after this debacle McLaren should back Hamilton and hang Alonso out to dry.

Anyway, this has been a damn eventful qualifying!:dopey:

Here's a link. It's a copy of the FIA stewerds report - www.autosport.com
The explanation given by Alonso as to why at the expiration of the 20 second period he remained in his pit stop position for a further 10 seconds is not accepted. The Stewards find that he unnecessarily impeded another driver, Hamilton, and as a result he will be penalised by a loss of 5 grid positions.

I just read this from iTV-F1 taken directly from the Stewards report:

Alonso was asked why he waited for some 10 seconds before leaving the pits after being given the signal to leave. His response was that he was enquiring as to whether the correct set of tyres had been fitted to his car.

When asked why this conversation did not take place during the 20-second period when his car sat stationary all work on it having been completed, it was stated that it was not possible to communicate by radio because of the countdown being given to him.

Reference to the circuit map shows that at the time Alonso was told he would be held for 20 seconds there were but 4 cars on the circuit, his own and those of Fisichella, Hamilton and Raikkonen.

All but Raikkonen entered the pits such that there can have been no necessity to keep Alonso in the pits for 20 seconds waiting for a convenient gap in traffic in which to leave.

The explanation given by Alonso as to why at the expiration of the 20 second period he remained in his pit stop position for a further 10 seconds is not accepted.

Talk about piling on the lies.

So McLaren and Alonso are claiming they delayed him 20 seconds for traffic... which there was none, with the only car on the track being Kimi who had pitted at the same time as Alonso!!!! - and the delay just caused him to enter the track in front of Kimi!

Now Alonso is claiming the extra 10 seconds at the end were to check if he had on the correct tires???

That may have to go down as the worst told lie in the history of F1. :yuck:

Alonso, you've just tarnished your legacy in F1 once again, what next do you plan to do for yourself?

You can really tell they threw that story together at the last minute. It the press conference, Alonso said they were trying to space him out from Kimi's Ferrari. Later, Alonso said the engieers told him to stay (which is quite probable, after seeing Dennis strangle that pit wall guy.) I didn't buy the arguement that they were holding Hamilton to "punish" him at all. You don't hold up a driver's progress for disobeying, you talk to them after. Three different stories. Each pushing the blame around.

It seems as though Alonso and his engineers were responsible for the incident. The thing I don't understand is why Alonso was only penalized 5 positions. When Micheal pulled the same stunt, he started 11th...

Well that was a bit of a farce.

On a brighter note, the GP2 race was pretty exciting as usual. Less aero grip for F1 cars please!

i suppose alonso only hindered lewis and no one else...therefore only 5 positions instead of michael were he held up everyone else...

the whole team got punished because ron lied to the fia to cover alonso's arse..he did it NOT to lose points...unfortunately it's backfired...had ron admitted alonso was at fault mclaren would still be able to win points...he took a gamble in the interest of the team but lost...

boy i'd like to be a fly on the wall in mclaren's garage...imagine how furious big nobert haug would be...

Sounds to me more and more as if Alonso's pissed that Lewis is faster and the Championship is slipping through his fingers.
His behaviour in the last few races are showing, starting with the "pit buzz" to the team a few races ago.

Let me get one thing straight. Will Alonso and Hamilton get to keep the points they earn during the race (assuming they finish in the points), but those points wont go towards the Manufacturer's championship or will they get absolutly no points all togeather?

its a really shame what has been happening in F1 lately :( .... people are not focused on the racing and are focusing more on the controversy.....

Another podium on the cards for BMW? hope so

I don't see Hamilton leaving McMerc, simply because Alonso looks far more likely to be the leaving one. Perhaps he'll find a spot with Raikkonen, or Renault?

Lewis isn't going anywhere. He's been part of the McLaren team for 10 years or so now and they've been trying to bleed him in to the team. Too much time and money for him to leave, plus I think come the end of their careers he'll have been better than Alonso.

Alonso and Hamilton will score points, Mclaren wont.

Hmmm, what sort of race do you think it would be if the drivers knew they weren't going to score any points?

I also love the fact that ITV (the channel that shows F1 in the UK) still has 'Alonso Odds-On To Win Hungarian GP' and that he's the 'Hot Favourite' on their teletext service...

Enough said, lets just see how this goes:

Controversy=Cash=Trouble
Troublemaker+Controversy=Penalty+Tarnished Image
Ferrari+McLaren=Bad Rivalries
Ferrari+McLaren+Spy Controversy=Both team being disqualified from this season
No Ferrari or McLaren=More exciting races and less controversy (and a chance for the midfield team to show their stuff 👍 )
No controversy=More boring races
Boring races=Bad revenues
Bad revenues=Mad Bernie Eccelstone :grumpy:
Mad Bernie Eccelstone=He ask for more controversy...

and so on.....

Does this show how F1 revolves around this sort of things?

The way I see it, when MSC crashed on purpose, he was in his psort-dominating phase. Penalising him would offer other contenders the chance to even up the championship, bring in more viewers, sponsors and otherwise.
If they punished ALO in a similar manner, the straight fight between ALO and HAM would take a serious knockback, and that's what's pulling a lot of crowds this season.

Bernie demands an audience.

:D

Anyhoo, word has it Renault are being punished for blocking a Spyker, but I can't find official confirmation yet. I'll keep looking though.
How the mighty have fallen... :-/

Edit: Found it!

Fisichella also drops five grid places

Renault’s Giancarlo Fisichella has become the second driver to be docked five places on the grid for the Hungarian Grand Prix after he was judged to have unnecessarily impeded Sakon Yamamoto in qualifying.

The Italian will drop from eighth to 13th, which means that both of the world champion team’s cars will start outside the top 10 at the Hungaroring.

Fisichella was judged to have blocked Spyker’s debutant on the Japanese driver’s second flying lap in the first knock-out qualifying session.

He joins his former Renault team-mate Fernando Alonso in receiving a five-place demotion from the stewards.

Alonso was stripped of pole position on Saturday evening after stewards didn’t accept either his or McLaren’s explanations for his lengthy delay in leaving the pit lane ahead of his final run in qualifying.

Well you have a point there,it does seem to look like that at the moment. With the Ferrari vs. McLaren saga,it does pull a lot more crowd this season than the season before (with the rookie Hamilton surprising everyone) so that does bring revenue to the sport. And the controversy in it causes more people to actually watch F1 to see how the thing turn up.

But theres two side of this, there are the people who watch F1 just for the glitz and glamor of the races (not to mention the crashes) and there are the very few people who just watch F1 for their fantastic cars and the sheer speed of them driving around the circuit, with a few good battles along the race (more like the yesteryears of F1)

If things shapes up to be like this, would anyone still want to watch it after they found out that F1 is really boring?I think this is all Bernie's idea on getting rich fast and i don't like it!If FIA run F1 without Bernie,it could just be as exciting as the FIA GT Championship or even as exciting as Le Mans.

Please, if F1 made it through the dominant Schumacher era (2002 and 2004 especially), it can make it through anything.

If FIA run F1 without Bernie,it could just be as exciting as the FIA GT Championship or even as exciting as Le Mans.

Le Mans is exciting? I thought the race is usually won by a margin of 5 laps or so.

I don't see Alonso going to Ferrari... mainly because I think Ferrari have the dream team. Two great talents who can get along and not have the problems that Alonso and Hamilton have.

Renault, hmmm.... in which case I'd guess Fisi would be making way. However what if Renault were to find their form again and Heikki started performing at his best?

Tis a tough thing

Alonso won't return to Renault unless they have a good car. And with the way it's been going, they have solid chances of developing a better car next year, seeing as they just added a new CFD and windtunnel complex...

Lewis isn't going anywhere. He's been part of the McLaren team for 10 years or so now and they've been trying to bleed him in to the team. Too much time and money for him to leave, plus I think come the end of their careers he'll have been better than Alonso.

I said, that Hamilton is the one unlikely to leave - that was said as an answer to some who said they wouldn't be surprised if Hamilton left after this abuse.

Le Mans is exciting? I thought the race is usually won by a margin of 5 laps or so.

In the 24 hours, yes.

In a normal race of 2 hours or something, lower class cars even beat the well known Audi R10's. In the last couple of races in the American Le Mans Series, the Porsche Spiders, LMP2 class, smashed Audi, who are a class higher...I find both the European and American Le Mans Series much more entertaining to watch.

On that, my favourit sport at the moment to watch would be the World Champcar Series. Every driver uses the same chassis, tyres and engines. Though some look different, all cars perform the same. It's a joy to watch how some drivers show of how much "balls" they've got. Especially Robert Doornbos turns the Champcar world upside down by being a rookie, and yet he has already won 2 races and he's 2nd in the drivers championship.

It's good to see that both Alonso and Mclaren have been penalised, though Alonso should've been further away to the back, according to rule 116, b of the FIA rules...One thing I am confused about however:

If, if both Mclaren's finish, a 1-2, the drivers will be awarded with the usual 10-8 points, right? However, they don't earn any constructors points...So, would this mean that if BMW happens to finish 3rd, BMW gets the full jackpot? This would be an excellent opportunity for the midfielders to concentrate on being in the top 10 rather then the usual top 8, Toyota and Red Bull could come out as the biggest winners qua usual point scoring...

Also, it was a pleasure reading everybody's opinions on the Alonso-Dennis case, +Rep for those people

*EDIT* Must spread :indiff:

On the issue of Alonso possibly going to Ferrari: it ain't gonna happen any time soon. Both Maranello seats are full until the end of 2009.
:D

Anyhoo, word has it Renault are being punished for blocking a Spyker, but I can't find official confirmation yet.
Question! Whay would Renault want to block a Spyker? I can see it happening the other way around, but really, why?

i'm surprised only niki lauda and damon hill have publicly criticised alonso...usually flav's pretty quick to jump on things like this...

Its not a question of whay, its a fact that he did. The Spyker wasn't going to get any further up the grid, but the block was there and Fisi should be punished.

Hamilton did a fantastic job today, congrats to him! However, it wasn't so easy I reckon since Raikkonen was driving as if his arse was on fire, magnificent laptimes by Kimi! Biggest surprise of the day? Toyota in my opinion, I never expected Ralf to keep up and to keep Fernando behind him for so long, he did a really good job and Toyota deserved every little bit of those 3 points

Good race. The Ferrari of Raikonnen was better in the race than expected and kept Hamilton on his toes. But Hamilton was faultless. I didn't see any mistakes from him but I did with Kimi and Alonso.
It was a good win for Lewis and I'm pleased that after all the controversy he got the win.
Don't know what happened to Massa, just couldnt get anywhere and Alonso only really made 2 places by staying out longer on his first pitstop. But he did pass Webber and Kubica nicely.
Heidfeld secured a rightful 3rd. Definitely one of the top 5 drivers this year.
Here's hoping for more good races (without the controversy). I rather have the excitement on the track, not off!

Congrats to Lewis Hamilton for his amazing win at Budapest.Although the qualifying controversy plague his chances of having pole but god was on his side and the FIA gave a good penalty to Alonso and also a good effort to keep Kimi at bay.Really shows you how much a talent Lewis is.Alonso failed to overtake a much slower Sauber, booooooooo!!!!!! 👎 but a good effort by Heidfeld taking 3rd place 👍 Massa had a poor qualifying and only finish in 13th place.

Even though the race was quite boring (as i can tell watch the last 25 laps of the race :grumpy: ) and has very few retirements.Wish it had rain at some point....but a good race none the less.

As for the championship, will Lewis be able to keep his lead through 6 more races?will Alonso show who is boss at McLaren and surprise Lewis at the end of the season? Will Ferrari still catch up with McLaren and hope that McLaren will be penalized over the spy controversy? Will anything happen during the break? Will Istanbul be the same race as last year?Stay tuned to find out! (stay tuned to what?my replies?)
