Why would you pick the McLaren, I know they are bringing some major updates that got done early I believe but...will they help the rock that they're already driving?s

I mean your sarcasm is flawless but still.

The pricing of the British GP is why I have yet to go to a F1 event. Just can't justify it for 1 day, let alone find someone else to come along with me.

However, will be going to Hungary this year. €315 for weekend gold passes (approximately £267), and the savings over equivalent British GP tickets will pay for the rest of the holiday.

I know I am mad but I have promised myself I will buy myself entry to the Paddock Club one year. Going to cost over £3000 for just me if my maths and the web site I saw are correct but I want to do it once.
Going to have to do a lot of saving.
This year though 3 day general admission.

Even getting hold of an infield pass makes the event so much more enjoyble bearable. It won't let you into the pits or paddock areas, but having free reign to wander around the various uncrowded viewing areas on the inside of the track at will, makes a huge difference.

My wife bought me a race day Woodcote stand ticket last year and even though the weather was okay on the Sunday, it was still an unpleasant experience overall and not worth the £280 it cost. I wouldn't go again unless i could wangle an infield pass.

Since we're on the topic, what ticket package would enable me to meet and drivers and get autographs? Also why would you need to save 3000 for Silverstone? Are you calculating round-trip air fair and hotel stay?

The £3000 that haitch40 mentions is for the Paddock Club hospitality (2 day hospitality pass). Aside from being invited by one of the teams, it's the nearest a pleb will get to meeting the drivers on a race weekend. Even then, it's not guaranteed. It will grant you a pit-lane walk about at selected times, but it won't get you into the F1 paddock area where the teams and their hospitality suites are. If you can get infield, you could hang around the entrance to the paddock where at some point all the teams and drivers will come and go between the paddock and the car park where they have their team vans to get to and from the circuit etc.

At certain races you can go to the track on the Thursday. The Canadian GP held an open day for all, whilst in Hungary it is available for anyone with a weekend pass. Might be worth investigating what is happening at Silverstone tomorrow if you can go! IIRC, one of the members here posted a picture with Sebastian Vettel having met him on his track walk (PeterJB possibly?)

Thanks for the info guys, I'm planning to go to Austin possibly next year so just wanted to know and then go from their when planning my trip.

I'm predicting a similar result to last year, Ferrari vs Red Bull. I'd like it if Webber passed Vettel on the last lap as a payback for Malaysia.

I'm hoping Lewis and Kimi do well and score a great deal of points. If the weather plays havoc then I don't know.

I'm hoping for cool conditions for Mercedes sake, if it's hot then I'm expecting them to plummet in the race with all these high speed corners.

I assume the 3000 are for the paddock club.

Anyway none of the tickets will guarantee you being within 100m of a driver. I had paddock access at Bahrain's GP and most drivers are too damn rude and try to hide from people to avoid signing autographs. The only two drivers that actually come all the way out for autographs etc are Nico Rosberg and Felipe Massa. I remember Felipe had a free autograph signing session at a shopping mall here a few years ago.

Maybe it's a different story with British fans, I don't know.

Back to the race. Any bets on Vettel not winning?

I really don't think Red Bull will be favourite for this race. Yes their car suits the fast corners but the problem is still the four pieces of rubber that connects it to said corners. As long as qualifying is normal I can see this being another Alonso vs Raikkonen battle of the tyre management.

It remains to be seen where Lotus are, it's been a while since we've seen a Lotus capable of winning. They say they've made a big step but Boullier was saying last year they had found a lot of speed prior to Spa but they seemed to fade in the second half of the season if anything.

It's the tyres though, we've had two races in a row where they weren't really a problem. The last race they were, Spain, who was 1-2?

I'm thinking perhaps Donington on Sunday for £15 would probably be better value, if they put the F1 on the screens?

Anyway, my money would be Webbo - Silverstone is usually his best track.

I hope Lewis can do a great race. I think it's gonna be Alonso vs Vettel for the race tho.

A great week-end incoming, with pikes peak saturday, F1 saturday/sunday and Top Gear on sunday. Btw, is it a bbc week-end for F1 ?

Granstand seats start at £230 I believe.

Oh and if you think the weather forecasts are going to be accurate four days ahead, well, they're not.

That's pretty expensive. If I were to go to a GP it would certainly be at an overseas circuit.

Last year I got to see the F1 testing at Silverstone and it didn't cost me a penny (Well, apart from petrol money and a camp site paid for by my university for Formula Student). I was on the old pitwall watching the cars going past, so close I could almost reach out and touch them. You can't get that at the race.

The experience of watching/hearing the cars go past is good enough for me. I don't see a huge advantage of paying to attend a crowded circuit versus watching it on TV with some friends. I wouldn't say no to a paddock pass if I had the money though, that is an experience I would enjoy.

Isn't it obvious?

A lot of people simply like the atmosphere of attending things with a big crowd, it's a big part of the fun.

I'm not gonna pretend to be some sort of romantic and say that seeing the cars in their "purest" form, just running laps, is exciting. I'm just not that type of race fan. Although I do appreciate everything that goes into a car and its technology, I'd rather see it race.

Besides that, I'd love to get up close to one again. First time I got to see and touch (even though I wasn't supposed to :x) was at the Donington GP Collection museum. Being able to just marvel at them sitting there was amazing. I just wish I could sit inside one someday.

But yeah, seeing them race is what it's all about to me personally, not just running around like robots.

Thanks for the help, I've heard Webber is usually nice to fans as well. I guess my dream of getting my drawings signed will never be...:(

Also I have Vettel slated not to win most weekends

Have you ever been to Beaulieu? It's near Southampton...
I'd love to go to Goodwood one day, but it is £££

Wow, never heard of Beaulieu, just looked it up, definitely want to check it out!

Goodwood would be cool to just hear those old engines roar.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Webber retired :(

Biggest underachiever in history. At least Button snatched a championship a few years ago. Poor Mark.

He's a good driver but he was never championship winning material no matter what car he was in. Not average, not great, just in between.

I would've given either him or Alonso the title in 2010. He started going backwards in that seasno after RB began treating him like a number 2 driver.

He may not be great, but the number of times he got screwed in the last few years just make me feel so sorry for him :/

That's not true at all, he had the title in his hands with three races to go, Vettel didn't become leader until after the final race when it really mattered. Webber is championship material based on 2010 alone it just wasn't meant to be in the end.

Please keep this thread about this race, not about Webber's announcement. There is another thread for that 👍.

Noted, and ironically I think Webber should have the car, since this is an old world F1 track that he shines at like all the other old world f1 tracks. The rest of the podium not sure but hoping Merc GP do well.
