Well done George. Bottas must be fuming.

Edit: Also for the whole "It's the car" argument, yes it is interesting to see the comparison between Lewis and George. But in my mind Russell is really talented as evidenced by some performances in the Williams (and f2 champ). To say it's the car not the driver I feel is not only an insult to Lewis but also belittling to George. That's my two pence on the matter anyway.

Jesus Christ Valtteri, try to look as if you're the one that has been driving the car for 4 years.

Russel already showing good promise...let's see who's going to be the first to say it "it's the car".......also I know it's only FP1 but seriously Bottas...he's not even ahead of the red bulls on what looks like a power sensitive layout.

The car is an important part of the equation, but putting a B- driver in an A+ car doesn't automatically average out. You still need to have skills to make the most of a vehicle, even if it's light years ahead of everything else. And it's pretty obvious Russell isn't just a B- driver, cruising around out there expecting the car to make up the difference.

Bottas kept destroying his tyres and looking ragged on his first laps, therefore his pace was always compromised. He needs to get on top of the setup changes for FP2 or George is going to romp him this weekend

H8rs: hALf ThE GRiD cOuLD wiN IN ThAT MeRC!!!
44fans: No LEWIS IS GOAAAAAAAAAATTTTTT!!!!!!!!!1!z!

Meanwhile, driver in last championship place with zero career points sets record first time out in car...

I mean, Russell for a podium or win isn't the dead cert Lewis is, but c'mon... that's too funny.

Stick any above average goober in that bloody car and they’ll be world champion.

RIP Bottas then lol.

In all seriousness it's early in the weekend but it's obviously promising. It could also be Russel's natural talent shining through. I personally rate him very highly.

Lewis is a good driver, but it must be clear even to his most loyal fans, that the car is 99% of the reason he's where he is in his career. Not to take anything away from him, but he has spent the last 7 years driving the most dominant string of cars in F1 history.

Ity nice to see Russell's at the top of the timesheets, but Valtteri's been setting fastest practice times all season, so let's not get too carried away.

Valteri really likes the turn 8 exit wide every time, too greedy on the throttle before he straightens out... dont think the Russell pressure will be helping either...

Bottas doing a great job at showing that Russell is inside his head in this FP2 session.

Every single hotlap on soft tyres has seen Valtteri run wide at Turn 8 and get his lap deleted.

If the crash in F2 qualy is anything to go by, Q1 is going to be crazy.

Things I want to hear on the Radio this weekend.

"Bono my tyres are dead" - Russell
"Blue Flags!" - Russell
"Get in there Lew...I mean George" - Bono
"GEEOOOOORRRGGGGEE" - Albon

He has Pete as his engineer this weekend?

He has Pete as his engineer this weekend?
Yes. He knows the car and systems like the back of his hand, so is required there to coach and help Russell if he has any issues. There'd be no point bringing his Williams engineer along as well because he won't know the car in 2 days.

Hoping Russell pulls it off! Hes doing good so far.

He needs to prove to the world that Bottas is useless and only there as a guaranteed #2

I think George Russell is a better driver than Bottas. He may not have the experience but he definitely has the talent. Look at his performances in the Willliams - I know the results don't really do it justice but come on, it's an absolute dog of a car and he's dragged it up the grid. He's made it into Q2 on a number of occasions this year, unlike 2019 where he couldn't do it at all. That is talent. Bottas has had more experience in the Mercedes but some of his performances have been dismal. At Monza, Bottas couldn't raise his position from 5th but Hamilton went FROM THE BACK to 6th place after *THAT* penalty. Bottas just doesn't have the mentality or the speed to make mince meat of his rivals. He should be wrecking Russell but he's not - that should put up a major red flag for Mercedes.
