I don't think anyone is seriously expecting Hamilton or Bottas to lose their jobs next week just because Russell puts in a good drive at a one-off track that nobody is fully familiar with. At best it'll put him on the top of the shortlist for 2022 and give him more leverage at Williams next season.

Lando Norris’s poor qualifying is now compounded with grid penalties for new parts. Although a new engine and turbo won’t hurt on a track like this.

It would certainly save Mercedes about £50 million. But is that the thing they'd want to do in this climate of diversity? They've gone all out for a black livery in support of the Black Lives Matter cause, and no matter how much replacing Lewis with George would be a financial and not-a-loss-of-performance reasons replacing Lewis with George would be, it would be a PR disaster that they could not recover from. No matter how much it wouldn't be for Lewis' colour, you know there are a lot of people on Twitter who would cancel Mercedes for that reason - especially if they keep the black livery next season without Lewis.

You don't get rid of a 7-times World Champion who's just won 4 titles back-to-back in your car. If he goes, it's on his terms. A large pay demand isn't enough to say no to - Lewis can pretty much demand what he wants because he is such a star that the team will make that money back pretty quickly from Merchandising and Sponsorship deals Hamilton can bring in.

Hamilton doesn't sound like he's done with F1. If Mercedes isn't an option, he needs to get on the phone to Horner and Marko ASAP to replace Albon at Red Bull. TBH, Red Bull need someone like Lewis to get back to the top. Max might have the speed, aggression and passion, but he seems to be the kind of driver a team bows down to and does what they want for him. Lewis is a worker and an inspirer who works with the team to improve. It's what Schumacher did and it's what Vettel did when he won all his titles at Red Bull (which is exactly what Aston Martin are hoping to get from Sebastian). Perhaps someone with Hamilton's teamwork mentality is what Red Bull are missing.

If they really did this, in order to save face they would surely drop Bottas. Damon Hill was dropped by Williams despite being champion, but that would be a drop in the ocean compared to this. Russell would love it, Bottas would probably end up back at Williams, and I doubt Hamilton would be happy about getting the Vettel treatment from a young, rookie driver. He says the races have been boring this year but I'm surely secretly he loves that he can cruise to the championship with a very passive team mate.

He probably would just be left without a drive if they did drop him, unless he was desperate enough to go to Williams. I can't see him going to Red Bull, Max would not stand for that, and it would probably create a very hostile team environment.

The race hasn't even started and this thread is almost the length of some of the more boring races' threads. :D

Looking forward to this. The F2 races were just slipstream battles and had some legendary back-and-forths. The drivers are going to have a frantic race of overtaking and defending.

Probably the most anticipated race this season!

Nail the start Russell and defend to the hilt, I'm looking forward to this.
Russell has been bottling starts all season as much as Bottas. In a new car with new systems he's going to be at risk. This is everyone else's chance to get past the Mercedes off the line.

Quite, hence the post but yeah hopefully not.

Leclerc took out Perez and Verstappen looks like he just drove on into the barrier?!
