Stroll also got a 3 place penalty for impeding, to add to the 1 place penalty he already picked up in practice. He and Bearman in a race to last spot on the grid.

Looking at that, Leclerc's probably in the strongest position out of the five at the top, with Max in the weakest having to run at least one set of the super duper soft tyres for sure (unless it rains, but highly unlikely), and they might as well be made of cheese for longer runs - I think Red Bull will be praying for an early red flag by putting Max on SDS for the first stint.

I think McLaren are likely to go for a split strategy with Norris on M/H/H and Piastri backing the pack up on an H/M/H option.

Ferrari could start HAM on the last set of SD's he used in Q3 and pit him on lap 2-3, go new H, then save that set of M tires that are only 3 laps old from Q3 for the end if something happens.

That's a valid strategy, potentially something I can see the majority of teams in the top half of the grid contemplating or actually doing with one of their drivers, thinking that there is going to be a red flag on the first few laps (or corners, as someone tries to do a Perez), while those lower down the grid are more likely to start on hard to get to the lead of the field for more TV time and extra sponsorship bonuses.

Does anyone know if the rules state that there has to be two pit stops or that it's using a minimum of three sets of tyres with at least two compounds? The former would mark a change in current thinking, where the latter would count red flags as a tyre change.

What the rule says

The key points of the rule are as follows:

  • Each driver must use at least three different sets of tyres during the grand prix, instead of the usual two
  • As usual, drivers must use at least two different tyre compounds, such as soft and medium
  • Drivers do not have to comply with the requirement to use two different tyre compounds if they use either of the wet weather tyre specifications: the intermediate or the full wet
  • The penalties for drivers who fail to comply with the rule have been revised. As before, a driver who finishes the race without using the required number of tyre sets will be disqualified. However if the race is suspended and cannot be restarted, a driver who has only used two sets will receive a 30 second time penalty and a driver who has only used one will be penalised a minute

Another way to spice Monaco up is to do what Bernie suggest ages ago.
Sprinklers that will activate randomly.

They could just be on for 10minutes with a light spray or 30mintues for medium spray.

Don't say Oscar isn't a good teammate. Sacrificing his chances by backing up the pack.

50 laps on medium? Well, either Bearman will have an incredible race or do nothing.

Well, there goes Piastri.
