GT is irrelevant, other sim racers are still released on PS. The question is whether Microsoft think it would sell enough to be worth the costs of porting.

I think Xbox Game Studios plan is to establish a footprint as a major and consolidated publisher everywhere: PC, mobile, cloud, PS and Xbox consoles, present and future, and not to try to upstage any particular game. In this "second wave" if you will, a once major exclusive was successfully released in the PS environment, other has just been announced (Gears of War), and others may follow, like Halo, and eventually even FM. PS gamers can only benefit from the expanded choices.

I have only one game series I wish to see re-released/remastered.

I want the 1980's Codemasters mascot 'Dizzy' to be released.

My livery skills in game aren't great but I've even made a Unimog Dizzy theme and vinyl.

I think you both would hate my FH5 garage then - just about every remotely modern Ferrari in it is blue or silver, other than the F40 and GTO. Ferrari have such a nice range of blue paints that most of their cars look great in it (including the LaF in my opinion!).

I've left the majority of my Ferrari's in Ferrari Red but I have repainted a few, including some in blue.

One of my most popular livery paint jobs is a Ferrari in red with white wheels and yellow brake calipers.

Going back onto GT7 last night with the update, the handling initially feels so inert compared to how it is on FM, but the car modding and livery creation is so much better on the Sony game.

The Guanajuato Race Track EventLab is fun this week but I had to drive with a metaphorical hand on my Scirocco's handbrake lever and one eye on the map, at least for the first lap.

Going back onto GT7 last night with the update, the handling initially feels so inert compared to how it is on FM, but the car modding and livery creation is so much better on the Sony game.

Although, the aftermarket body kits are definitely cool. Hope GT7 would do something like that for GT8.
But yeah, respect to the livery gods in Forza by doing this with the ingame editor, but yeah livery game in GT7 is amazing.

But so far having more fun with weekly stuff and complete all the events.

Ugh, the trailblazer for this week's seasonal is bad enough but having to use a frickin B-class Renault is just mean.

I did it with the Megane R.S. maxed out with rally tires and suspension. For the last stretch use the road (left) and not the sand dunes (right).

So I wanted to play an open-world driving game again. My last one of this kind was Test Drive Unlimited 2. I've dropped the hammer on Forza Horizon and after playing it for a few days, I'd like to share my first impressions here. FYI, I usually only play Gran Turismo 7.

• FH5 It is a pretty-looking game. Less realistic-looking than GT7, but very pretty to look at. I like it.
• It is clearly more arcade-focused than GT7 - no criticism, just an observation.
• At the start you get quite overwhelmed if you are used to the calm ways GT does things. In FH5 you are literally thrown into a wild ride with different cars, kind of a "forced tutorial and showcase". I personally am not a big fan of forced tutorials, but it surely was exiting and engaging (and pretty), I guess that's the idea.
• Similar to GT7 there are a lot of driving aids, e.g. a racing line with brake indicators, which you can switch off. If you go for full realism in FM5, it does really leave you alone in the cockpit, which is what I aimed for.
• I can use my Fanated DD Pro including clutch and shifter with FH5. However, the details are solved not as good as they are in GT7:
  • In FH5, if you set it to "manual shifting with clutch", it forces you to do that even with cars that have automatic gearboxes with paddle shifters. You can use the wheel's pedals to shift, but the game will make overly long pauses between shifts to indicate that you should be using the clutch, as you chose in the menu.
  • If you enter the game with the wheel as the primary controller, it won't let you use the PS5's Dual Sense controller to navigate menus. Only if you start the game with the Dual Sense as the primary controller and then add the wheel as a secondary controller, you can use both to navigate the menus.
  • Some of the buttons I configured for the wheel do not work when driving, e.g. view left/right/back. I put this on the wheel's joystick, but it does nothing in the game. Also, L2 and R2 on the wheel are set as the accelerator and brake. I went to the menu to leave these two undefined (as I have pedals for these things), but the game insists that these functions must be matched to buttons, they cannot be left undefined.
• Free-roaming the open world of Mexico is pretty good fun, I like it. The only thing I could do without are the lunatic NPC racers that want to do racing with you all the time (which I accidentally accepted more than once). Independently of whether you engage with them or not, they will often crash into you.
• I only have 8 cars so far, but I was surprised how realistically their drivetrains and overall behavior are represented in FH5. You can very clearly distinguish between the antics of a C8 Corvette, a current Mustang, a Toyota GT86 and a Honda S2000. And I'm not talking about horsepower output, rather than grip limits, cornering behavior and the like.
• Force Feedback is okay if you fiddle with the settings a bit. I am quite satisfied with it at the moment, maybe with time I will be able to dial it in more. But it is certainly not bad. Rather arcade than simcade, but not bad.
• As for free roaming, navigation is done well. You choose a destination on the map, get in the car and go. You have a little map window on screen showing the route and you also have a navigation voice. And like a real nav, it has no issues with sending you across tiny dirt paths if it is the shortest route.
• I am still overwhelmed with all the tasks and challenges the game offers. So far I see no system or laid-out path to follow, so I just discover the map and do random challenges I fancy. I guess this will get clearer with progression.
• I am not a fan of the "you have to have a character in the game and he will regularly be on stage with his car and do gang signs". This, however, is a personal gripe.

Overall I am happy with the game. I very much enjoy a free roam in a large world. My biggest gripe with the free roam are the NPC lunatics. Nonetheless, I like this game.

EDIT: Further points:

• The Wheelspin system of FH5 is much better than the roulette system of GT7. The wheelspin appears to be truly random (at least that's my impression) and has many more than just 5 prizes available per spin.
• I found that you can filter the items that are shown on the map. So in order to make the game less overwhelming for me, I removed all items that are not relevant to me (now). Unfortunately this setting is not stored, I have to re-do it every time I boot up the game. I suppose it is meant to be more of an ad-hoc filter. Still useful though.

I went with the "Waiting" Emote. Character does nothing but look left and right while tapping a foot a bit from time to time.

I am still overwhelmed with all the tasks and challenges the game offers. So far I see no system or laid-out path to follow, so I just discover the map and do random challenges I fancy. I guess this will get clearer with progression.

Once you reach the Hall of Fame and start doing regular playlists it becomes pretty easy to work out what you have to do next. The third game was even more overwhelming as it lacked these.

Are you not playing online? Because if you do, the NPC's are replaced by other gamers in the session which are transparent and can't crash into you, and you can choose to engage with them or not.

Thank you gentlemen! I learned that the emote can be changed, I chose the waiting emote yesterday. The chair guy definitely sounds interesting, too, but I haven't unlocked him yet.

Well did I feel under dressed going to work yesterday. I was travelling down the A34 just north of Oxford in our lovely Renault Grand Scenic. Somehow or other I ended up in a three car convoy and boy did I feel out of place.

In front of me was a Ginetta in ice white and immediately behind me was a Lamborghini in spice green (I think that's what they call Lamborghini vibrant green).

Our Renault people carrier really didn't fit the theme of that convoy. Luckily once we came out of the 50 mph zone both cars instantly disappeared over the horizon lol.
