I got nothing but 🤔's for this post so I'm glad there actually is an archive of old tours now even if the Champions Cup is separate. I'd rather be half right than completely mistaken. :P
I think you got 🤔's because of this...:

Yeah, it's tough making guesses based on reddit predictions (which is why I said "if") but surely you'd agree that people really have been waiting for an archive of old tours for a long time whether it's part of the Challenge Cup or not.

That still doesn't make the time limited or FOMO. The reward cars have always been that way, even in FH5, though it has an AH to buy another copy if you wanted.
It sort of does, because like I said, if you accidentally sell or get rid of them, you cannot get them again. You've got your chance, but it will punish you hard if you blew it.

I feel like there's still some work left to be done. It's great that tours and their respective reward cars are permanently being added back, but they need general availability, like them being available to purchase and/or rent in Free Play.

That way, if you want the car for free, you have incentive to play the tour(s), but you can always buy them with credits.

Still, seems highly possible of coming...
Now, when we gonna have the Update 22? July?
The update details on the What's New tab hints to this update being over by July 16th.

I agree completely, people (including me) have wanted this since day 1 when it became clear they were time locked. Especially with the (most people surely agree with this?) pitiful size of the Builders Cup.

I entirely welcome everything in this update. However, it has to be said that much of this should have been in the game at release (or at least soon after), in my opinion.

The McLaren MP4/4, Ferrari 312T2, McLaren M23, Lotus 98T and Ferrari 641 now have Goodyears!

And in terms of the price changes, here’s what I observed:
  • LMP1 prices raised a bit
  • Most GT3 and GT2/GTE prices became cheaper
  • Most LMP2 prices became a bit cheaper
  • Most 1960s-1970s F1 cars became cheaper
  • Touring Cars became even more cheaper
  • Grand Prix Rivals became more expensive
  • Most GTP/C cars became more expensive
  • Most GTX Sports Cars became cheaper
  • Most Prototype Group Racing cars became cheaper
  • Ferrari 166 Inter Sport’s price drastically dropped
  • All Birth of Grand Prix cars became cheaper
  • Most Vintage Le Mans Prototypes became cheaper
  • Most Forza Proto-H cars became a bit more expensive
They need to update the thumbnails for the F1 cars that have Goodyear on their tyres now

Is this an actual announcement, or just speculation?
I think it's just speculation running on Microsoft heavily pushing the, "[This] is an Xbox" & showing a different device.

But, I mean, as soon as you Google next Xbox console, there's already a 24 hour old story about how Microsoft is apparently not abandoning a new console & that it will run "Series x, One, & X360" backwards compatibility, so I don't think anyone truly knows.

The AI is on a mission now. Whew. Really like that. Can do lap after lap following a car I can't pass. And they were passing me. This is great.
I also love these Indycars. They drive pretty good. Sound is a tad off but nothing to ruin them, however, whoever just let it slide that the AI is now going around road courses with Oval kits is something special. You guys put in these new Indycars and then dookied the bed on the bodykit choices. There's just something wrong going around Road Atlanta with AI flying the same speed as I am in Oval Kits. That's wild stuff. I'm seriously baffled by how this was produced and then OK'd to just go out like this. I'm just going to guess that there's Road Course body kits going around ovals too, which would just about be even worse. lol 🤦‍♂️

But that isn't FOMO or Time-limited, that's just limited availability. The cars are permanently available to earn and there is no way of missing out on them.

If the cars were generally available to purchase then there would be 0 incentive to do any of the career mode. This has been a thing for a while at least since FM7, possibly earlier, had limited availability cars as well. Several cars were only available by completing the championships in career mode.

Is this an actual announcement, or just speculation?

Should clarify, I meant the end of a device that just plays console games. Hybrid console/PC is the future, and it’s no longer speculation:

“We’ve established a strategic, multi-year agreement with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles. Together, we’re delivering deeper visual quality, immersive gameplay, and AI-powered experiences - grounded in a platform designed for players, not tied to a single store or device, and fully compatible with your existing Xbox game library.”

It’s funny, we were talking about Motorsport on PS5. If Sony ever release a Gran Turismo on PC you’d be able to play it on a Xbox!

For their next console I think Xbox would be better off releasing a Steam-capable console as this would offset the disparity in available games by quite a bit for the fraction of the cost of an equivalent PC. PC is probably more worth it for someone who doesn't already own a PS5 though.

Perhaps if Sony were to release Gran Turismo on PC it'd make the choice more cut 'n' dried but I think it depends upon which games you want to play and how much cash you have available.
I think they will do this eventually, but personally I don't see the point in getting one, just get a PC instead now instead of waiting for..a PC. It'll probably be expensive too. Look at the PS5 Pro, everything is getting expensive. So you might as well make the plunge now and be set for years. The improvements to windows to make the UI more console like for the "Xbox PC" will come to all windows 11 pcs anyway, it's all converging.

Also

@turk1993 any update to RTGI this update?

If you sell them accidentally, you can generally ping the support team or socials and they will likely gift you the car, others that missed tours for some reasons have been able to get reward cars this way, it's not an issue worth prioritizing IMO.

I used to game primarily on a PC, but pretty much stopped after I finished Uni and started working, I found it hard to be coding all day at work and then trying to relax in front of a PC again, with WFH, I don't even have to move to do this.

Then the 1 huge feature Xbox added this gen, Quick Resume, if MS can build me a console that is running windows, is as seamless as Xbox is for getting into and starting games, and has quick resume, I'm all in.

Maybe if the next Xbox is the price of a PC with a hot graphics card then it'd be a no brainer. As it is, when my last PC died I couldn't afford to replace it with the latest technology. Xbox Series X gave me everything I wanted at the time for half the price. Graphics cards are getting expensive as well.

Some interesting AI behavior trying the Ginetta Junior events in the champions cup. In theory all the cars are the same and stock E300 PI, so great way to test. I set the AI on 8 for practice and by the end all the cars were within a second of each other, and though it took a lot of work I was able to find speed and get a fastest time by a couple tenths, which usually I cant do on AI 8. So I decide to keep it at 8 for the race, it estimated I'd place 2-4 which is usually a good level of challenge for me. However at the start of the race I was able to easily get to the front on lap 1 and at one point had nearly 5 seconds gap to the rest of the field, they were bafflingly slow. Then by the end of the race I noticed 3rd place was nearly 30 seconds behind, second had fallen back to probably 10 seconds then seemed to start to reel me in but not enough to catch me. Pretty strange since I also did a forza 4 event in the anniversary tour with the 458 and the AI was much more competitive. Maybe it comes down to tuning or just the fact that the Ginetta is much more of a momentum car, though requires a lot of shifting. Another idea I had is maybe since the cars are all evenly matched they were constantly battling and slowing down. Did anyone else try this?

I did level 6 AI starting from 7th place for a predicted 3rd to 5th finishing position. Once I left the cars behind shortly after the first turn, P2 didn't come within 10 seconds of me. E class cars are easy to nail the corners in though and the Ginetta Jr is a capable car. Even on Road Atlanta where 7th place was supposed to net me an 8th place finish I still came first pretty easily. Maybe once the class level goes up it'll be harder. At least I have plenty of time to retry at harder AI levels.

This - I game on Series X because the experience is largely a known quantity at a fixed price point. Besides which, I don't have to worry about constant patches/updates/OS settings/drivers etc. I just fire it up and play the latest version of whatever games I've bought, safe in the knowledge that they'll run well.

On another note - regarding the latest update, this may be a stupid question but, erm, is there an Indycar "Tour"?

Yes, but I think you'll have to progress a bit as it's not on the left side of the tours list.

I went straight to the American Endurance tour with the Mustang GT3. Usually I run career at 5 and free play at 6 for GT3 but in free play I always win by a pretty good margin. But I cap the AI to match whatever I'm driving. For this tour I decided to go with 6. In all 3 races I won but it was tight. But at the end I had one of the slowest fastest lap times. I think for Daytona there was only one car slower than my fast time and it was down in 17th or something. But most of the AI cars had higher PI than the Mustang. It was certainly different than what I was used to.

I didn't notice at first that there was a pitstop requirement until the car in front of me pulled in at Daytona. I'm guessing that's going to be a requirement for the other races?

So are they going to keep adding events to this Champion's Cup or are all the current ones all were going to get?

For me, having a speedway kit on a road course is worse. At least in real life you'll regularly see the road course wings on shorter ovals like Gateway, Iowa & Milwaukee. However, you'd never see speedway wings on a road or street course.

The incentive to do the career mode should be that you want to play career mode.

Shouldn't people should be able to play the game the way they find fun rather than be forced to do a very specific mode to unlock cars? Whether that means free play, career, public multiplayer, painting cars, whatever.

Outdated viewpoint. Patches are downloaded and installed automatically by steam, like a console. GPU drivers are downloaded and applied automatically by your nvidia/amd/intel app. It's not 2005 anymore. There are plenty of games that don't run well on console, and they're stuck that way. On PC you can either brute force or tweak around what the devs shortcomings.

I completely understand the convenience and benefits of a walled garden, but a lot of console players haven't dipped their toes in PC land for a long time and it shows.

Still better looking than Forza Motorsport's trees

Does anyone know which version of FM he's comparing GT7 to? I don't remember the latest one looking like this. I hope he's not doing the old "run it on a potato PC" thing that console warriors like Emula got banned for.
Many of the accounts doing "gotcha" comparisons of FM/GT7 are on PC and setting detail to low, it's normally extremely obvious because they set "Dynamic Render Quality" to low, which makes the grass flat. I've even seen someone do the whole "look at the terrible quality tree's in the distance", like yeah mate that's what happens when you want to run the game on a potato, even Series S looks better.

I'm pretty sure that's FM8.

I'm on a Series X, and my trees occasionally do that "look like fingerpaint" thing in certain situations, but never during an actual race. I've seen it during replays, and it happens pretty much 100% of the time at Lime Rock when I finish a race, when the camera changes for the finish thing and looks backwards up the main straight, the trees before the final corner look like that.

Don't really see it myself. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? Either way it seems pretty harsh to judge a base level XSX against a PS5 Pro for something that seems to happen only rarely. ¯\(ツ)

I don't think people making these comparisons are really interested in whether or not it's fair, just getting little virtual high fives for "owning" the other side.

Personally, I never got whining about trees in racing games. I guess they can ruin photomode stuff, but generally if you are looking that closely at the trees you are probably doing it pretty wrong... but then the graphics are basically the least important part of these games for me, hell I still think regular AC on console looks more than good enough.

You are looking at the right set of trees. I just took this clip to show what I'm talking about:

You can see they look fine when I go past and look back at them, but on the little cinematic finish thing they get all weird looking.

At Lime Rock it does that 100% of the time (that I pay attention), but most of the time I experience it's either during the cinematic finish screen, or the cinematic angles before the start of the race. Sometimes I get it briefly when changing the focus car during a replay, or when changing from photo mode back to replay mode. I'm on Series X in performance mode, which might be why as it's dialing back tree detail to maintain framerate?

Doesn't bother me since it's pretty harmless, my point was more that I'm pretty sure that is actually FM8 they are using since I've seen the same thing, just not quite that bad.
