FT-1 = LFA in Toyota clothing?

Nissan used to be Datsun up until the early 70'. I have driven a few. Toyota created the Lexus name for the high end models sold overseas (USA) as did Honda with Acura and Nissan with Infinity.

And yes, it's a perceived change to market the cars to a broader clientele. What snobbish individual would want to be seen in a lowly Toyota ;). Enter the luxury brand Lexus :)

I owned a 77 280z that was Datsun branded so it was later than the early 70's. Although when you lifted that backwards hood and looked at the engine it said Nissan on the valve cover. I think 83 was the full cross over to Nissan and the end of the 280z/zx line.

To us dumb Americans Toyota is a good little truck or a family car and Lexus is a luxury car brand.

How about this "Ford DB7 Vantage"

Agree with @ITCC_Andrew. Based on 544 PP and the size of the car, the FT-1 looks like a 1400 kg, 540 hp car, very similar to the LFA. Also similar to Ferrari 599 but a Toyota shouldn't be so high, should be a ~ 500 PP , midrange between the GT86 and LFA.

ahem, check it yourself if you're skeptical.
It has 485hp and weight 1320kgs.

From the last video I saw, the ft-1 will not see the light of day or spawn any cars. It's just a representation of the body language Toyota will be heading toward in the future.
As for it being priced low and being accessible, I'm not sure where you're getting that from.

You're right, that's probably the case. But considering how the FT-86 was born in a similiar way and came to life, who knows...?

And about the price, i really don't know, actually, but my logic is based on the fact that Toyota wouldn't enter the supercar price range by rebadging the LFA. I mean, who would buy a TOYOTA with Ferrari/Lambo money? So if this type of car sees the light of day, as you put it, it would definetly not be built/sold as a supercar.

Hmmm, I'd have to look into that. I was pretty sure the 86 was a planned production car from the very start.

Guys, am I the only one thinking that it really is going to be another GT86-type thing, just a really lightweight car with a bit more power than the 86GT?

@eSZee says it has 485 hp (might be exaggerated) and weighs 1320 kg. With a smaller engine, the car would be less expensive, lighter, and would have better weight distribution.

So, then, obviously it should just be a turbocharged 86GT. The guys at a local Subaru performance shop have been talking about a turbo BRZ as if it's a certainty.

If you sort your garage by power/weight and adjust the cars around teh FT-1, you can conclude the car is 485/486hp and 1319/1320kgs.
Again though, I DOUBT these are real. Just ballpark numbers PD were given or maybe something they came up with themselves.

Well a little math kind of shoots my theory in the foot.

Wheel base: LFA - 102.6 / FT-1 - 107.8
Length LFA - 177.4 / FT-1 - 184.5
Width LFA - 74.6 / FT-1 - 77.5
Height LFA - 48.2 / FT-1 - 48.0

In inches as per the game data.

They at least sound the same in the game... :boggled:
No they don't.

Precisely - I really believe that either PD or Toyota are embellishing the HP figures. Someone is. Another LFA doesn't make sense.

FTFY

We need moar LFAs, not baboon nosed sexy supra-ish thing, Toyota needs to make atleast 500 more LFAs with their Camry, Prius and World Domination funds.

Pretty much, yeah; the show car has no real drivetrain, just a small battery to move around on stage. This also isn't related to the BMW/Toyota collaboration project, which is the most likely source of a new-age Supra.

The LFA already costs Lexus/Toyota way too much. They lose money on every one they make. The LFA's design and styling etc. Is probably a majority of the costs... Research and development.

Redesigning a car that they're probably still losing money on - doesn't make sense. If you like it so much, you should certainly understand why the problem is as it is...

PFFFT Leave the LFA the way it is, it's perfect. I'm not asking for a redesign.

Just make a few hundred more with your world domination funds and money you get from Prii and the world will be a better place, instead of dumping cash into silly beigemobiles. They have to put those skills and facilities to use again. I will pay them 1.000.000$ worth of Goofy Goober Fun Dollars if they hand one over to me.

I like the silly beige mobiles. Grassroots Motorsports did a beige Camry build...

Anyways, that's exactly the point I'm making... Minus the domination money. I'm keeping it. :trouble:

''In preparation for pitching the concept to Toyota management, Calty worked with Polyphony Digital, creators of the popular Gran Turismo driving simulator, to bring FT-1 to life in a virtual world that captured the excitement, passion and performance conveyed by the concept model. Toyota executives were offered the opportunity to take FT-1 for a timed lap around a computer-generated Fuji Speedway. Behind the wheel of the concept, Toyota president Akio Toyoda, an accomplished race car driver, completed the virtual circuit faster than his best real-world lap time at Fuji in his LFA. From that moment, he was convinced and the concept was approved to be built in model-form for the international auto show circuit.''

Say whatever you want, its not an LFA, wether or not it goes into production!

Lol, the developers made up performance figures. If Daihatsu gets a VGT out, they'd just tell PD, it weighs 1100kg and has 1200 hp. 0-60 in 1.7 Seconds.

And if it still looks like a Daihatsu I'll be a fery happy man ^^

Hey guys, just on the subject of sports car from toyota, has anyone seen the new Lexus RC-F? It will have 5.0L V8 engine and I'm guess it's made to compete with the new M4 and C63

Yup seen it, it looks to me like the GT-86's big brother.
The Japanese car makers are showing some really nice stuff lately.
Toyota(Lexus): Concept FCV, FT-1, RC F
Nissan: new Sports Sedan, IDx (tiny little boxy "sports" cars)
Subaru: The new Lancer EVO... oh wait no, the WRX STI...

I'm hoping for Mazda to reïncarnate the RX-7 soon (or at least a concept of it)

Ft1 was designed with a 60k price in mind, and engine bay that will fit a i6

Likely they will slap a more production ready body on the chassis developed with BMW and call it a Supra.

Other choice is FRS platform, may be to small and Lex RC but that's to heavy.

Not happening unless they can sale 100k of them. Which is not gonna happen. They could stuff every Mazda with a rotary and call it its high spec version and it would not be enough sales to warrent it.

They should just build a sports car call it the X7 and offer a crate rotary for the few crazies that actually want it.

Actually, I wouldn't put the Abarth 500 anywhere near a GT86. I'd say the GT86 main competitors are the Mazda MX5 and the terrible Porsche Cayman/Alfa 4C duo. Most European magazines reviewed it as such a car.

And the Supra's traditional competition's not been the RX7 and Impreza/Evo, but rather the Nissan GT-R and Honda NSX. Since both cars now went all international and supercar and the NSX may end up rivaling (in performance, not in prize) the 458 Italia I'd be very surprised if Toyota didn't step up their game and built a 500hp beast to rival those cars.

Don't think so. I'm not very good in the LFA but I can drive the wheels off the FT1.

By the way is it a race car? I just got told in an online lobby to change car 'road cars only'. Probably because I beat them all by 20 seconds at the ring. It was a 500pp sports soft tyre race. Glad the TF1 is able to be restricted.

Don't think the FT-1 is a race car, but it's not a road car either.
Not entirely sure if concept cars are considered a different breed or just included in the other classes...

The lobby I'm usually in we accept concept cars along with road cars. I don't understand the problem but some people seem to think they have an advantage which they don't. Sure some of them are brilliant cars but for every great concept car there are double the amount of great 'normal' cars.

I think the guy was wrong and he made the mistake of making me change into my RS200!

No, you don't work with them, I'm the one negotiating a few hundred more LFAs, as long as one is secured for me, everything will be fine.

The Toyota FT-1 understeers too much. LFA understeers too much.

I see almost no difference between them. I really think people are overthinking the whole thing. PD probably did use wrong HP figures. With a smaller engine, the weight distribution will be improved and so will handling. That would make it less terrible.

LFA, understeer? I thought it was quite tailhappy and slightly twitchy actually.

One of the Fastest Sports A class machines.
