Really? You don't know people who are into self harm? Sure its not good to live with and something they really shouldn't do, but depressed people don't exactly mean suicidal people.
They have a knife - they are being irrational of course, but it doesn't mean that they don't know better ways to kill themselves with the same implement.....or others.

Sometimes its an uncontrollable compultion....or so I'm told.

I would think there's a psychological/emotional difference between slicing your veins and just cutting yourself.

Hence no point telling someone FAIL and that they should go down the road and not across the road if they do not know what the intended outcome is...

I know people who are into cutting themselves, and none of them slit their wrists. Most, although not all, mostly cut or scratch themselves where it can be hidden from the public so people don't raise attention to their disorder.

Most are not suicidal at all and do it for many reasons (ie. to "feel" something other than what they're feeling, to punish themselves, etc) that you and I would see as attempts to kill ones self, but really have nothing to do with that at all.

In most, if not all cases of wrist slitting, its either a way to end a life (down the street/across the road if unexperienced) or a cry for help/attention (across the road).

I don't know about you, but I don't see too many happy people going out and cutting major arteries as a way to express joy...its not like being so happy that you start crying.
