Having read the books, I felt giddy watching Theon and Ramsey's scene, and his descent into Reek.

Also, Arya and the Hound's scene gave me a brief chuckle.[/spoiler]

And now my watch wait for S4 begins. :indiff:

Just watched episode 2 of S4 (written by Martin), and greatly enjoyed his improvements in Theon's character versus the book. Martin is privileged to "reinvent his own wheel".

In last week's episode 1 of S4, the portrayal of Arya and the Hound at the Crossroads Inn was riveting in the extreme. Some provocative questions are raised about the personality changes taking place in a such a traumatized young girl, aged only 11.

In other news, I've purchased Ramin Djawadi's musical score from S3 and enjoying it greatly. My favorite cut is #18, "Mhysa".

Inspired by the exploits of Syrio Forel and Titus Pullo ("Rome" on HBO), I have taken up the study of classical and medieval sword fighting. I'm six months into lessons in the French foil. Someday, with luck and application, the Italian rapier and English longsword.

Watched the latest televised episode last night, I know these deaths are coming because I've read the books but man are they horrific.

It's bad enough reading about it, but it's done so realistically in the television series. It's harrowing.

Well, that was great.

SPOILERS:
I have to say Joffrey's death was very well done. Although they didn't show him clutching at his throat like in the books, I have to say he truly looked feeble and scared as he was dying.

I'm going to miss Joffrey, Jack Gleeson portrayed him fantastically!

Spoilers:It's a shame he's throwing in the towel as far as acting goes, but he's certainly left his mark. Both through his portrayal of the most hated guy in Westeros, and his grim and unforgettable death.

That was a magnificent make-up and special effects job with Joffrey there.

My favorite part is how unraveled Cersei is. You see what a monster she is inside.

One day you'll be beating Lannister dogs with wooden swords!

I'm very satisfied to read about and watch the Lannisters. Fencing is really a martial art, a form of physical and mental discipline. I've (almost) never been in a real fight in my life.

Stevie Nicks has gone on record as stating that Game of Thrones is both a cure for depression and a source of artistic inspiration, and Vanity Fair magazine is agreeing.

Been about... 6 years since I've read one of these books, luckily the series hasn't caught up yet, and my memory has failed in the meantime, so I can go ahead and enjoy season 4 without really being spoiled. Both good, ending of the 1st great, the 2nd not so much. As in high anticipation freaking awesome Hound and Arya vs yeah I saw that coming, and come on really? Tyrion to blame when Geoffrey spontaneously appointed him cupbearer?

I just started watching this starting at season one. Last night I watched either episode 9 or 10. The end was incredible. I am officially hooked now.

****MASSIVE SPOILER****
Daenerys Targaryen walked into the fire and hatched 3 dragons!!!.
****END SPOILER****

Tyrion is an idiot. If I were him I'd order Pod to turn out my sister and put an end to all the incestuous drama. Something needs to be done before Jamie breaks his hand off in that lion-puss.

Arya should grow up to be queen of the north. Give Daenerys the south and Esos.

These week long waits are so difficult... Can't wait to pick it up on Blu-Ray next year.
Wish they didn't take a friggin year from airing the seasons to releasing them on DVD/Blu-Ray.

I feel so bad for Podrick. I don't know what's going to happen to him, but if he winds up dying, I hope it's by Snu-snu.

I know what happens to Pod. I will not tell you what happens to Pod.

Pod is way cooler than his cousin, Ser Ilyn Payne. If you don't know who that is, and you've seen the entire first season, this spoiler alert is for you (so don't look at this spoiler unless you've watched the entire first season):

********SEASON ONE SPOILER*****************
Ser Ilyn is "The King's Justice" and therefore, he was the one who swung the sword to behead Lord Stark.
********END SPOILER*******************

The difference between the two relatives is staggering, even in the books.

I don't see what their fates have to do with one another, I know the books from a studied spoiler junkie POV. They don't share the same fate and they don't influence one-another's fate.

Pod is cool and does cool things in the future (per the books).
The other is a tool, is used as such, and... well... :sly:

Well, that wasn't in the books!

***BIT BELOW IS WHITE AND FULL OF SPOILERS***
Firstly, I wasn't expecting Bran to get captured. I'm preparing for the worst, now that Locke is on his way to Craster's Woolie Hole.

The bit that really got me was the baby sacrificed to the White Walkers. I wonder what it will become.

As both an avid reader of the ASOIAF books and an HBO GoT fan, I was pleased by the fairly major departures from the book storyline in this episode (404). Given that the showrunners are working closely with Martin and broadly adhere to the major character arcs, I see the HBO departures as enhancements to the story, adding suspense and excitement for those who are already familiar with the written work.

Maybe we could call this episode Episode 404: Canon Not Found?

At least the writers aren't majorly rewriting the characters, Jaime and his actions in the Sept of Baelor excepted.

I'm interpreting Jaime's actions in the Sept as a (minor) collective error on the part of the director (Graves, with his troubled home life), the screenwriter and the showrunners. I do not think it should be held against Jaime's character going forward.

The fact seems to be that GoT holds such HUGE and growing place in public consciousness, that the burden on the show for PC is redoubled.

At first i was pretty saddened by all the minor changes with big implications later on, but as the show is starting to build up some of its own storyline, I am fine with them for the most part.

The white walkers are shaping up nicely, andnit seems the nights king is not just a myth told by old nan.

Not sure how i feel about brans position at the moment tho.

I have a feeling that when the show finally catches the Booksthe storylines are going to be very different, allowing HBO to go in their own direction. I think of it as a different floor of the dark tower multiverse.

If i wasnt two books ahead of the show, i would agree. But some of these minor changes will habe lasting effects down the line.

Given that 5 books in everything is still so on-the-verge-of-happening in a manner that would make Warhammer 40K a bit ashamed, that might be a good thing. The show can only run for so many seasons. Condensing the story may be a mercy.

I just finished up all of season 2 last night. Now need to get my hands on season 3. Season 2 episode 9 was by far one of the most epic episodes. That along with the very last episode of Season 1.

Finished Season 3 episode 4 last night. "And Now His Watch Is Ended".
Just 🤬 EPIC!!!!!!!! I took a bunch of pics but wont post to avoid spoilers. Just wow!!!
