I agree with the run offs, shouldn't be used at all. As long as two wheels are between the white lines I think its good, as i don't wanna go any farther anyways as its slippery out beyond the rumble strips:nervous:

Ran some more testing, running low 2.14s now with my best 2.14.141. Got a few tenths i can make up in certain sectors but with such a big track it'll be tough for me to put em all together.

Hopefully gamesta's lounge will give me a half second boost like it usually does:cheers: But I'm going to try for 2.13s for sure.

Interesting, my best lap is now 2'14.158 :sly: I'll race you to 2'13. 👍

Ok, So for Spa when it comes to the huge Rumble Strips... You must adhere to the rule you must stay within the white lines and two wheels must be on the track at all times, if you use excessive amounts of the rumble strip runoff area you will be penalized this also goes for the run off area's on Nur GP and the chicanes at Monza.

On a side note if you guys are running 2:14's I can guess I will be running 2:16 to 2:17s
as I am usually 2 - 3 secs off pace in any practice I do.

2.13.958:tup: hmmm... wonder what i could run with a calsonic or 1100kg GT-R, eh I'll do it later

gotcha gamesta, looking forward to sunday. I can toss you my tune to see if you like it since your my teammate and team nismo needs to win the constructor's title muahahaha

now I'm talking too much, just hope for some good racing fellas

I can capture a single lap video of a 2'14.1 lap @ Spa if it helps anyone with their approach. If I manage to get into the 2'13 range I'm keeping things secret. :sly: Let me know if anyone is interested. Dragon has to close his eyes as I don't want him learning anything (yah, like I could teach him anything).

That might help me. I was running 2:16s on Sunday and Monday, then last night I was running 2:18s, don't know what happened:banghead:

A PM? Don't want to give any tips in the thread? The video of my lap will be up in 10 minutes. Dragon, maybe you can let me know if you see any spots where I can improve my time. :p Your series point lead is safe at this point! :p

Time: 2'14.158
Track: Spa Francorchamps
Type: Practice Lap
Car: Nissan CALSONIC IMPUL GT-R '08

well i can tell you i'm using full downforce, if i tell you the rest i'd have to.....well you know lmao. i'll watch ur lap compared to mine, might be very little difference i'm thinking.

I did ~20 laps in Dragon's lounge. I began to run 1'17s before I stopped. Way off the pace, but the good news is that I kept it between the lines. Spa is obviously a far better circuit than Daytona, I feel far more comfortable here.

Good lap wrp, only way i think i might of gained on you was maybe in the last chicane or the last 3 turns before the last long straight going to the last chicane.

Will do my best to adhere to this . 👍

Nice laptimes WRP & Dragon , you're gonna be at the top of the timesheets for quali i'm sure . 👍

SagarisGTB , 2.17's are heading in the right direction & i'm glad to hear you like this track more . When it comes to raceday it's all about consistency & taking opportunities as they arise .

In the last race for example , I qualied 4th but in the middle of lap 1 went wide on the grass losing 3 places . I fought my way back up to 4th just by being smooth & consistent . So ultimate laptime is good for qualifying , but the race is a whole different story .

I'll predict that you'll hit top 6 this weekend , and as the season goes on you'll get quicker & quicker . :)

Just a reminder that I'm holding a practice session tomorrow evening at Spa. See this post for details.

Not sure how many of you are going to show, but Hydro and I are also running our 3D3 Racing event next week at Spa so I turned the practice session into a "mixed class" practice to kill two birds with one stone and get more action on the track.

Bring your Super GT car w/RM tires and the 3D3 drivers will using a Nissan GT-R Schulze Motorsport '11 (KazGTR) with RH tires. Basically we'll treat it like a mixed class event. The KazGTR has a huge hp advantage, but harder tires so the lap times actually end up pretty close although speeds on track will differ greatly as one car will dominate corners (GT500) and the other straights (KazGTR).

We'll run a few short test races during the session in order to test the draft and help set final gear and for those we'll just have the two classes separate at the start OR just let them mingle depending on how many cars are on the grid. Most of the time we'll just be running free run practice however.

PS> My lounge will be set up the entire time, but I won't be driving myself for a good chunk of the session. Just come and go as you please and bring your mic and/or keyboard to communicate with the other drivers to coordinate test races, etc.

Thanks for the words of support, but this week the goal is to be more competitive and clean. Top 6 can wait for now, unless the grid is 6 cars. :D

Good lap wrp, only way i think i might of gained on you was maybe in the last chicane or the last 3 turns before the last long straight going to the last chicane.

The last chicane (Bus Stop) is tough at Spa. Normally I'd chop the curbing on the 2nd half quite a bit in any chicane (up to half car per regs of course), but when I try that at spa the car gets very lose going back on throttle. Seems to be better/safer for me to go a bit wide to right mid-chicane and increase the radius of the 2nd part. Can't run too wide here on exit either as the outside rumble is super slippery. I would agree that this is definitely an area for improvement.

I ragged on Daytona endlessly (and Indy), but actually both produces pretty entertaining races. At least from my point of view. I had very low expectations for both of them so I guess I was pleasantly surprised.

For those new to spa, one key to the lap is Pouhon, which starts at 1:10 in the video. That double apex high speed left turn you absolutely have to get on the power early with the long straight following. Brake late and short for the first apex and full throttle right at or before first apex. Let the car run wide on exit of the first apex for a good approach to the second apex which should be taken at full throttle. You can lose upwards of 1 second in the straight following if you take this corner wrong and can't go full throttle through 2nd half of the turn.

If you are struggling with your lap time focus first on any turn that's prior to a long straight. A lot of the turns at Spa can be taken at full throttle with our regs so you have to back up one turn further to find the time. e.g. Stavelot and Blanchimont are taken full throttle easily with these cars so the real time is gained/lost on exit from the right before Stavelot.

No worries . 👍

Depends on how many appear then lol . We've had a few drivers busy with real life commitments recently , so the grid has been emptier than usual .
That's a good goal to set . 👍

Don't think I can make your event WRP , but i'll hit you up with a FR anyway if that's cool ? :)

New time of 2.14.394 for me too . :)

Couldn't have said it any better:tup: Malmedy seems like it could be possible to take full throttle or barely letting off throttle but that also depends how you come out of les combes. also for me it seems like getting into les fagnes in 3rd for the first part and going thru the 2nd part in 4th is possible with throttle control. Both right now both are very risky for me as I'm having too much understeer to do this, but i think its possible.

I'll be in your lobby tonight Tim 👍
Should be a great time with 2 different series running practice laps.

Oddly, this pic has the final chicane backwards.
Of course this track has several layouts...

just noticed that lol. good catch hydro. well been mostly working on my gearing and have improved it somewhat, not much more time till later to work on it, managed a 2.13.848, but was about a tenth in a half slower in the first sector for some reason on that lap, hence I've made it up every other lap I run then fall short the rest, did about 15 laps so to say of prac, restarting after 4 laps. Looks like I will be doing 2 stops.

wrp001 im sending u a fr so i can get in on the practice tonight

👍 Your added as well as TJ. The only two drivers in the series not on my PSN FR list are NEPALII and ekke, both of whom I've sent FR requests to so they can join if they want.

Between this series and 3D3 should be a pretty active practice room which will be fun. 👍

If you see me in the room, but I don't respond to voice or text it's because I'm away. I'll stay in the room so I remain the host, but I've got a few things to do and will be on/off until about 7:45 PM Pacific after which I'll be on pretty steady. I expect to be driving between 5:00 and 5:30 and then 7:45+

Hopefully Hydro will be on while I'm away so he can manage the room / start test races if there is interest.

If anyone starts a race while I'm gone keep lap count <= 5 laps so that anyone who joins the lounge mid-race doesn't have to wait more than 10-12 mins to enter the course. Towards the end of the session we can run a longer test race. You can test tire wear in free run mode so really only need race mode to test the draft and grid starts which can be done in a short race. I'll pre-configure the lounge for 5 lap races.

I am going to try my best to be there tonight hopefully around 8:30 EST time.

That's an old map from before the 2006 renovations. The Bus stop is completely different now, it used to be a flat (as in little elevation change) chicane that went the other way.

That right is Stavelot 1, then Stavelot 2 is flat. Sort of like the Lesmos in Monza, both corners have the same name. :)

I may not have much experience racing here, but i know the layout from watching F1 for 10 years. Watching the track on TV doesn't help at all though. There is no substitute for being on the track and learning the real nature of each corner and how much grip there is.

But yeah, I agree. Stavelot 1 is probably the most important corner on the track. Poor exit speed can cost you tenths on the straight and through Blanchimont. Unfortunately, it's a fairly difficult corner that's easy to get horribly wrong. :indiff:

My lounge is open. I'll be away, but back shortly at the top of the hour (5:00 PM Pacific).

Stuck away from ps3... Be on later. Lounge is still open.

I'll be there shortly

Good Practicing with you guys tonight only did about 14 laps and my fastes was a 2:17.015. I think I just need to find a line.

During my 50 lap run tonight, I think I only did Stavelot correctly once or twice. That corner is the mecca of understeer. :ouch:

I think a two stop strategy might be more appropriate for me more than a 1 stopper. I tried to do 15 laps on one set of tires, but I carelessly ran out of fuel right before bus stop on the 14th lap and had to pull into the pits. Lap 11 was a 1'20 but the lap times slid a bit from there, lap 13 was a 1'23, lap 14 would have been around the same. I'm not sure if that sort of pace is worth one less pit stop.

thx for the prac room wrp!! was able to run a personal best tonite 2.13.759. definitely hooked on doing 2 stop race.

we all change our clocks back an hour here sunday morning. race time will still be the same correct? practice starts at 10est
