I do like neons so I'll look up some acr's. I also was looking online today and I saw some real nice mkIII gti's all for under 5 grand!

I would be very jealous if you could snag a MKI or MKII GTI.

You can get some very nice cars for that money. You'll just have to spend a long time looking. You might also look at getting a Scooby.

I have been thinking and I have narrowed my choices down two a mkIII gti/jetta with a vr6 or my 2nd choice is any mustang I can afford with a v8 and a stick. I figured if I am going to buy a car why not make it a cool one. I have a job now (finally) so the money should start collecting in the bank. Also my friend might get a new car for his birthday which may free up his 5 speed 1993 bmw 235 4door, its not in the best condition but I could probably get it for under 2 grand.

Mustang!! MUSTANG!!!💡💡 !!!!

There you go. Good sense is in your head

There is a 1998 Mustang gt 5speed around my block for 3500. Sounds like a good deal but there has to be something wrong with it. It has been for sale for a long time but 3500! Its really tempting, I might call and ask about it.

3500? If its in good shape thats amazing! Maybe it's got a lotta miles?

Or maybe it's a Poltergeist GT like my uncles. Which was also a '98 GT. In Black.

Well the body looks straight but the front is a little messed up the bumper and grill are in less than mint condition. It is lowered a bit and it has cobra wheels. Ill take a picture later.... or now I'm not doing anything.

Ok, I just talked to the owner on the phone and he told me a bit about the car. He said their was a minor front end hence the screwed up front end. The air bags are used and will cost some 600 to replace. He said the car runs fine but he got a new car so he needs to sell it. It only has 87,000 miles on it too. I am going to talk to my dad but he most likely want me to wait for something else.

Well the bumper and grille put together is probably about 300-350 to replace to new.

I'd get it checked out by some mechanic, if it got hit hard enough for the airbags to deploy theres bound to be something even he may not know about. Doesn't look too bad from the pics, but get it checked out anyway.

Yea, I called up my dad and he isn't as convinced as I am. I would definitely bring a mechanic who knew stuff about 'stangs with me if I were to buy it. My dad wants me to wait until August until I get a car because I will have a lot of cash from Dairy Queen (don't laugh) and my uncle's eye doctors office/store in Atlanta that I am going to work at for a month and a half in and July and August. When I'm down their I'm sure I'll be working 5-6 days a week all day for 6 weeks. I'm pretty sure I'll be making over 10 bucks an hour possibly 20 so I'll have loads of dough before I get a car.

I normally wouldn't say this, but wait! if you can make big money, do that and then you can afford a stang that hasn't been hit.

I know but I am inpatient. I have been waiting all my life for a car of my own and I can't seem to wait any longer. I am going to have to but still. I think I might let this one pass and get a mint MkIII Gti hopefully with a VR6 and fix it up. Like add a new intake, lower it about an inch, chip it get some nice bbs wheels and what not. Basically what every other dubber does lol. BTW New Jersey is a big VW place and it just so happens I am a huge VW lover. I love stangs but they come second to Veedub.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I'm tryin to save enough for a car in October. Veedubs are cool, I personally love the newest design Golf dropped 2 inches ridin' some wheels that look to big for it.

I'm a sucker for big wheels

Lol I hear ya! I have driven the MkV (newest gen) Gti Rabbit and Jetta and they are all awesome.I want to try a new R32 but the people at the dealership know who I am and are always bugging me about when I am going to buy. If I don't buy a used car I am going to lease a new Gti/Rabbit/Jetta. You get a warranty and I can pay it off every pay check over time.

About the lowering I think 2 inches is a bit to much, especially in NJ, we have killer pot holes.

Well 2 inches is a bit far. I'd need to see them more in person so I could see a safe lowering amount.

Maybe you can raise it about 8, slap some 39'' super swampers on it and some tiny BBS wheels to put on it. You won't have a problem with potholes...or other cars...

Something like this:

L. O. Freaking. L

EDIT: wow, 12 minutes without being flamed for such a stupid, blasphemus idea! It's my lucky day!

No! What a waste of a mustang! Lol why would some one do that?

I don't know. I saw an '82 T/A on a Blazer platform too...

If you live in someplace like....the arctic circle I'd let it slide, but otherwise, no.

Lol, yea true. So I was on your thread about your first car, so what is your main choices as of now.

Mostly V6 pony cars. I can more definately say whether V8 is in or out once we get a quote on a V8 Mustang/Camaro/Trans Am. If I go with the GM F-Bodies, then of course I'm goin' T-Tops all the way!

Then there's 2 big 4x4's for these ROUGH Florida winters. Ya know, it's hard to drive a straight line on a bone dry/straight/flat road when it's 65 out!

And a Miata, which is definately my most economical choice, but that comes behind pony cars.

Good, yes, pony cars come first ;) :sly: Or import a Commodore sedan.💡 Is that even possible?

It's possible, but not probable. That might be a little over my price range. Although that is something I would do. Except I'd go Ute on it. Then I could justify a 3" lift and bigger tires.

WE NEED A G8 SPORT TRUCK PONTIAC!!

 Don't ever talk about making my beloved Ute higher with crappy big wheels ever again. They are sports cars and shall be treated as such. ;) Utes are a few grand more than sedans, but you could buy a decent VL Commodore, Nissan RB30 engine, for $2-3k AUD.

Hey now, I said big tires! Small wheels, big tires.

The RB30 is a rubberband motor, pass. It's not really the cost of the car, but the cost of importing it if I went that route.

Knowing me I'd probably get a Falcon.

It would cost you way more then his price range to buy an RB here in the US.

And keep my Nissan motors out of your American cars preeez :)

@mustanggt90210
Those were some of my choices before I narrowed down my list. I really do like pony cars but they fell victim to my love of german cars. I still would get one in a heart beat if the gti and mustang gt don't work out.

@holden
I still would get a camaro/firebird t-tops if I had the opprotunity but in a v8. I just narrowed down my list so they got knocked off.

Hey, Nissan were desperate for money, Holden was desperate for a one-off engine due to new emissions laws and the Buick V6 was not going in until the VN, so the VL was born, out the factory with either an RB30E, or RB30ET, and some are worked to run 8/9sec 1/4miles in Oz. If you were Australian, and wanted a cheap RB, VL is the way to go.

Edit: And I mean real cheap, I could have gotten 3-4 VLs for the price of my Ute, which is my first car, and I only work casual at the moment.

Another breakthough! I called up this guy who lives by my house who is selling his MKII VW Gti for 1500. Being the vw nut I am, I'm estatic. Right now I have about 1250. I talked to my dad and he doesnt want any thing to do with it. So I am going to call back tommorow and get some more info and maye stop by and check it out. What I know so far from what he told me and what I see. Its a black mkII gti with a rebuilt 8v engine which I believe was swapped in. It has new front breaks. He said it has been sitting for a while but it runs and drives good. Its also a 5 speed. Any comments or suggestions?

Also I want your opinion on insurance for a 17 male in nj. I will be on my parents insurance but I will have to pay part of it. Also how is the reliablity?

:)👍 Thanks in advance!

Sounds cool! 👍

On insurance, I've gotten a few quotes.
16 yr old, 1 accident, not at fault
Mustang V6: 200/month
Nissan 300ZX: 197/month
Ford SVT Contour: 200/month

All considered sports cars. The mkII isn't, so you should be closer to at most 170/month

EDIT: WOAH! 1500? That's definately worth a look. Heck, if you had a 4,000 dollar budget I'd say buy that and then a 2500 dollar fun car

Ok now I'm syked! After some time of argueing I got my dad to say yes. Well first I have to get our mechanic to check it out but if he says its good then its mine. I got 1250 and my g-parents said they'd throw in 250. So its mine, all i got to worry about is insurance witch might make me get another job.

More info.

I called the owner (who is a mechanic) and he said its an 1992 gti 8valve with 133,000 miles which was bought used in great condition. He got new breaks and suspension. He said he replace all the nessasery parts. The headliner and door stuff has been stripped but other wise the interior is good. I'm not sure how modified this car is but I think it is because the owner said stuff about it. Also The car has sat since december but before he parked it it ran fine.

I will try to get some pictures up as soon as possible.

BTW I can't really negotiate the price because the owner put so much in and it would be a big loss. Trust me I tried.

:dopey:
