Gran Turismo 2: Beige Edition

To be honest the UI is still firmly under construction so beyond showing off dealer menus there's not much more to show, there's per event stuff but they aren't finalised and I'd rather not show those until they are.

No can't touch the speedometer beyond I think there's something to colour change it now, indeed any in race UI is exactly the same so there's nothing that can be done there

I'm quite late on this thread as I have only just registered on GT Planet, but I have been following the development of Beige Edition as much as I could from when I first became aware of it near the time it was announced, mainly through the Youtube updates and car modelling videos. I'm excited for when it finally becomes available as it completely echoes my taste in real life cars!

I know that the car selection on the whole is basically non performance/sporty traffic cars there were current in 1999 [or thereabouts] at the time of the original games launch. I made a list recently of all the cars of this type that were in manufactures ranges in 1999 from Western Europe, North America and Japan/Korea that I haven't seen so far in any of the monthly updates or seen any mention of appearing in the finished game. I wondered, would it be possible to post this here and maybe let me know generally if any of them are planned without being too specific and giving too much away, or if you don't mind being specific and telling exactly what will be there from what I've listed thats cool too. I just thought I would ask out of courtesey first rather than post it straight away and reveal too much!

Edit: I know there are older cars to be featured too but I haven't included these, only those that were current in 1999 model ranges

Yes, edited the list now to include the HR-V, I think I saw in a previous post that the X90 is planned

Thanks, I actually have a lot of period literature from the time, including a 2000 world car guide, published in late 1999, which is the same time frame as GT2 was originally released, so I made the list from this, basically by slimming it down and eliminating all the exotic/performance stuff and keeping the mass market/non performance stuff from the time

That was the Seicento I meant, which I didn't realise, so have removed it from the list

Here's hoping with the Volvo 440, I didn't list it as in 1999 it had been replaced by the S40/V40

Goes without saying a fair chunk of that list is in the mod, there's a few exceptions such as the LHS which was really a crossbreed basically being a Concorde with a 300M engine (probably because the 300M was originally going to be the next Eagle Vision). But I'd say at a guess 75/80% of that will be included

Glad to hear that, thank you, to be honest I was hoping you wouldn't give too much away as I like the monthly updates revealing what you've done as so far there have also been a few suprises, but cool that the majority of the list is in the mod

I am assuming that either the 300M or Concorde will be included rather than the LHS. I just updated the list slightly again as I forgot all about Buick and missed one Volvo, I remember reading that both Volvo and Saab had originally been planned to feature in the original game but turned it down when asked

Completely forgot the Regal and Century were included, and happy to see the Grand Move, it looks brilliant!

GT2 just reuses a few hundred generic engine sounds across all cars and all of their exhaust upgrades, which is why there are oddities like a V6 Mercury Cougar that sounds like a Viper. They're not unique or authentic to each car.

Thanks, I did always wonder how some cars sound exactly the same as others, I saw a making of video from 1999 on Youtube which showed them recording real car engine sounds [A Neon R/T was one of them] I guess they must have only recorded so many real life cars engine sounds, but not all of the cars in the game

No, both were considered with the BX especially but it came down to a decision between the BX and ZX and given the ZX seems less well represented that's the route we went!

Not every but about 3/4 manufacturers feature at least one used model which in our case is 1970-97

Fair enough re the BX and AX, the BX has been represented once in games before, in The Getaway Black Monday! but no ZX in anything as far as I know Edit-Scratch that re the BX, what am I on about? it was an GT7 Update car last year!

Looking forward to seeing the few more BL models that are planned, I'm banking on Metro/Maestro/Montego, as I can't really think of anything else, but I could be wrong

Edit: Allegro and Maxi could be two more BL models that I forgot about, I also thought possibly Princess, but as there is an Ambassador already I'm guessing this one is unlikely

Don't you think you guys need to update the model on the Familia? It looks too rounded and fat compared to the real thing. Many of the reworks you guys have done are quite subtle and minor (except for the 206), so it could be very cool to see something a bit more extensive!

Fairly certain it's been looked at before and it's fine, it's not a GT1 model and the Pepper didn't need anything beyond removing the GT-R bits. I'll keep it in mind though, some of your images are of the GT-X which we don't have

I actually meant the Interplay, but i """""accidentally"""""" have some of the GT-X pictures sprinkled in. The Interplay is still here and it could be worthy to look for that.

Yeah I saw a few are, like I say I think it's fine and was looked at during the Pepper as they would use the same front end. The rear end based on your pictures has actually shocked me on how accurate it looks. The light bar and bumper shapes are spot on. The image of the white car in-game is stretched. Happy to do some comparisons when I'm home if you need them?

Yeah it'll be communicated in advance, it'll get completed. Go through a rigorous testing stage and launch a few weeks after the completion of that, there's no surprise off guard launch for this

Very happy to see the YT update today, looking more forward to it with each update, although I knew most of the cars that were revealed on there due to the update on here upthread from two weeks ago, it still managed to hold a few suprises, such as the Honda Crossroad, which wasn't shown in the thread update, plus the brilliant looking menus, of both the showrooms and the race events, I had to be very quick and pause at the right second to get a proper view of them! A few more car reveals from the showroom menus I noticed too, Subaru Justy, Peugeot 607, two variants of Ford Escort, Peugeot 306 GLX , I'm assuming remodel of the S16, and i'm guessing by seeing the background picture for the "Heavyweight Open Challenge" there will be a BMW X5 too, looking forward to seeing how all of those look fully modelled, keep up the good work!

Btw, hope its okay to ask, but I just wondered is there a second generation Punto planned? I wondered as this car was a new model at the launch time of the original game, I know the first generation is included, a remodel of the GT, but wondered if there was a Mk2 Punto planned also
