What could the customization refer to?

I'm curious as to who's releasing these screenshots of the customization...surely the same person can show us pics of cars that have been customized? Or are these press shots released by PD themselves?

Looks like there are going to be less tuning options this time, several tyres are missing, iam hoping snow and gravel tyres are in another menu and there doesnt look to be any intermediate race tyres which doesnt bode well for weather.

Also engine tuning has been simplified, it looks like they have taken all the different areas engine balance etc. and just lumbered them in 3 different stages. Pretty disappointing to be honest I was really hoping for more in depth tuning features not less.

Surprised to see that the exhaust side has been fleshed out though, but that's probably because 'zorst' mods are easier for NFS idiots to recognize.

Im hoping that by choosing the next stage you get more options... if not then yea thats really annoying..

Wet/rain tyres may be bundled with with racing tyres of your choice. I don't see buying it separately. Probably why racing tyres are more expensive.

I said it in another thread, I will say it here.

These few selected screenshots we have seen CLEARLY do NOT show ALL of the parts purchasing options we will have. So just calm down a bit.

I love how it says "Tune your exhaust sound". That leads me to think we're actually getting realistic V8 sounds. That way I can enjoy the pant wetting sound of a GM LS motor with a nice stainless steel system, high flow cats and headers and a big cam. :)

All looks wonderful! Also as another person said surely they can now show us a pic of a modified car.

TBH with the photos we've got, it seems it's just showing a more in depth GT Auto. Why would PD lose all of them tuning companies in GT4, when the majority of cars are coming from there eh ? ( think about it ).I really really really want in depth tuning, that goes further than all previous GT games, with a choice of drive train swaps from real tuning companies.Plus most of the other mechanical parts too, like prop' shafts, half shafts etc.Coil over shocks too, leaf springs ( plus other bits n bobs with this ), fibreglass/carbon fibre/GRP wings, doors, bonnet, boot lid, wheel arches, front/side/rear skirts etc.
Ford Racing blocks and the like, that could be fitted into a base model Mustang etc.

Imagine driving a rally car round the desert with a track that you've made, whilst the AI are taking corners slowly. PS1 Nostalgia anyone? It was a bike game with the track maker feature

Considering that sizeable list... I think you're in for a heaping helping of disappointment, S&S. Well, judging by what we've seen so far, anyways.

Are you guys presuming it won't even match forza's options?
I'm not too clues up on past GT customisation options.
Jay once told me engine swaps are in.

Even if all of what i said there is in, you don't need to visibly show all the details of these components ( most likely the underside though ).Just have as menu options & include faithful sound tracks of engines & other moving components, seems pretty simple that way.

What they been doing.
Don't tell me weather, day night and all that crap.
Get the fundamentals done PD.

There are things you can do in GT4 that you still can't do in Forza, such as weight balancing your car. I'm not worried about the tuning and upgrade options. Everything in GT5 is being enhanced.

In some respects it matches.

In others it surpasses.

Others, it doesn't even come close, simply because PD haven't attempted it yet. Credit to the Turn10 team that they've brought new ideas to the genre (Engine and Drivetrain swaps). Or taking ideas from other competitors and made them so much better (Livery Editor and Customisation for example).

I Guess that When you Choose another Weight Reduction Kit It will let you choose instead of hoods, if you want the body in CF or something..

If thats all the tuning it has, I now can say Im completely Dissapointed at GT5.

While I'd agree that Turn 10 has introduced or fleshed out customization features not seen in other games, they do go past the realm of reality sometimes. The ability to fit large, high powered engines into cars that barely have the space to accommodate them is a good example.

Actually, they did nothing of the sort. Everything they did has been available in the tokyo extreme racer for years. Engine swaps, body kits, visible exhaust changes....

Other than parts for the car, I wonder if there will be a paint shop in GT5.

I hope we can finally paint our cars after they're purchased. Maybe paint some rims to match the car. Maybe paint the spoiler. Etc.

I think customization is one of the last 3 remaining things we need to see in detail.

1. Customization

2. Weather

3. Standard car gameplay

I was only referencing the engine (which I didn't know were in TXR), drivetrain swaps and the livery editor. Yes, console racers beforehand have had a livery editor but none of them have been as user friendly or produced such a large amount of user content as Forza's.

I'm not saying these features are perfectly executed or that Turn 10 necessarily implemented them first. As I said before, there are still glitches that need to be ironed out, but regardless T10 has made customization features like these the standard. Livery editors weren't commonplace before FM1, but they are now.

To me, there is nothing friendly about the FM3 livery editor. You have to make everything from scratch. Besides a few shapes and sponsor decals, there was no content. Making everything certainly wasn't easy for me.

What's friendly about the FM3 livery editor? You have to make everything from scratch. Shapes, lines, letter, numbers. It wasn't easy either.

Most games are exactly the same way. Some old games (although I haven't seen this implemented recently) allow you to design your own vinyls with crude Photoshop tools like paintbrushes, paint buckets, etc. TXR had this. It let you paint pixel by pixel, but it was incredibly difficult and time consuming given that you had to use the control stick as a makeshift drawing utensil. That wasn't easy.

Yes, nothing will ever be as easy as using a pen and tablet and some design software. But FM3 makes it as easy as it can be on a console using a controller. It gives you:

- A flat surface on which you can design vinyls. Most games force you to do all your work on the surface of the car. FM3 lets you design in a separate area with an optional grid, and then apply it to the car afterwards.

- A wide assortment of shapes and pre-made numbers and letters that, when used correctly and placed on top of each other, can form practically anything.

- Most importantly, a consistent framerate and a simple interface when you are doing all of this. If you've ever tried to use livery editors in Ferrari Challenge, NFS or Midnight Club you'll know what I'm talking about. These games make positioning vinyls a slow and clunky process, bury simple options and adjustments under confusing menus, and limit you to a far lower amount of layers on every side.

Is FM3's editor perfect? No. There's the issue that locked vinyls can't be duplicated on other parts of the car, that certain areas between sections of the cars are unpaintable, and the two-tone paint glitch. But it's the standard as of now.

you would think with all the "Customization" and "tuning" threads PD would listen...

i love how the "Exhaust" upgrade is broke down into sever categories... they they let u pick separate Cat and Muffler...

Racing Cat with a Semi-Racing or street Muffler...

so seems like the tuning categories have been broken down into smaller detail for more options... thats a start... :dopey:
