What could the customization refer to?

Just noticed something strange on GT5P there are a large amount of tunner and parts advertised on the boards above the start/finish lane, there are sparco, NGK and some others. I just don't understand why they are there as the track isn't real so PD have added these on their part.

Its a bid to add some more realism to an unreal track. Besides, they're all associated with polyphony in some way or another, directly or indirectly.

?

Also, totally love the purple Viper. Its not really a common sight, let alone for the ACR. Oh the luxuries of digital re-creation.

I don't think we'll get a full on Forza-esque livery editor, but it's a possibility we'll get to choose single colour custom paint jobs like on Test Drive Unlimited, or at the very least, I'd hope we'd at least get to repaint our cars in manufacturer colours after purchase...

Yeah, that should be a given these days.

Paint shop should be a given too (paint rims, brake calipers, spoilers, etc).

A livery editor isn't given, but I am sure the GT site will be updated during TGS and will reveal a lot about GT5 customization.

I know, but this is PD we are talking about after all! ;) That said, even if we are only able to change the body colour I'll still be amazed!

One thing is for certain: It is being stressed that GT5 allows for customization. We've seen it on the back cover for the game and it's been in the Sony campaign at the end of the GT5 ads when it so kindly says "It Only Does Customization."

I don't expect customization to be better than GT4, I expect it to be much better than GT4. Even if that doesn't include a livery editor, I expect to do be able to do a few things that can set my car apart. If not, negative one point.

Don't get me wrong, so do I. 👍 I'm just being careful since we haven't heard anything definite about customisation options yet.

To be frank that isn't actually very hard to do, as far as I remember the only visual customization was either a new set of wheels or a generic spoiler ( which served more as a functional downforce provider as I don't remember it actually made any car look better or suited any car ).

Yeah, add in front splitters and it's 50% better, much better, add wheel paint and another 50%. It's very simple to make some thing much better if it was almost nothing in the first place.

Out of the box I wouldn't expect too much customization. More than GT4, but not overwhelming. I'm curious to see what updates will bring though.

After seeing those Tuning Options Images that were posted weeks Ago, I Just cant expect anything good.

On the othe side, Kaz has talked about Track Editor, Physics, Graphics, Tracks, Online and Even B-Spec Mode in a detailed way, I guess its time for Customization, Ryt?

I surely hope so, at least those screens showed you could have a new bonnet in either carbon or the colour of the car, this alone extends the amount of options compared to GT4 with 50%.
Although I do believe extensive customization ( if at all ) will probably only be available on some or most Premium cars ( with them being modelled as modules instead of solid shapes ).

Call me negative, but I cannot help but feel that SCE/PD will mostly go for the "aftermarket custom body part DLC" micropayment scheme that will attract spoiled kids and impulse buyers, fueling what has become the cancer of current-generation videogaming.

I damn hope I'm wrong.

Even with solid models there is a possibility - albeit a tad slim - with various addons, such as spoilers, wings, antennas, scoops and what not. Model specific as well as universal fit ones. The visually challenged wing option in GT4 gave us a taste of that.
With better resolution, PD:s collaboration with automotive and aftermarket industry, plus some effort put into adding visual customization this time, I believe this kind of eye candy will look convincing in GT5.

Vehicle specific items do require a lot more disc space than universal fit ones - not to mention time invested to develop these. Even creating/recreating model specific parts for 200 premium cars would be a lot. Texture and color variations and dimensioning of universal parts are much easier, and seems more likely.
Now, I would welcome discreet addons, but I'll be more than satisfied with the little we know about customization in GT5 today.
Although, some sort of paint shop and reasonably selectable wheel properties would be nice.

It sure would be nice to have the after-market wheel options updated or changed for the first time in 11 years .

considering the original $1000 GT5 they had planned, I wouldn't put it past them. I hope you're wrong as well, but I think they might do bundles DLC instead. Unfamiliar people might go along with micropayments, but I think the GT community thats been following for years would have a major uproar.

Wait, what?!?!?

lookin on the bright side. if they dont add the customization for your car like rim size, bodykit, huge ugly wings....
...it will make us feel better on online racing with other people (other than racing their ugly ass car(riced) when your the only true cool looking.) [MDC 3 Dub Edition for example great mulitplayer game but full of rice].

"But we must not forget what Gran Turismo really is(the music, the style, the racing etc.).... for those memories with GT1, GT2, GT3, and GT4 which have made us very happy in the last years." Let us hope what GT5 has for us!"

Wait, what?!?!?

The original GT HD had planned for you to buy each car you wanted, with real money. So DLC would probably be infinite, just as long as your wallet was.

To be honest, I really hope they allowed me to adjust the rim size.

As I wrote elsewhere, there's not only rim size (although it's the most visible wheel modification), but also rim width, rim offset, tire size (diameter, width and aspect ratio) ... and they all have some kind of effect on car drivability

But what are you saying? It would be nice? Of course it would, but the likelihood of all the in depth details being included and to change/customize would be a little far fetched

Yes, it would not only nice, but great if it wasn't only for looks, but also for performance. This would probably an easier way to do it:

- Make different preset tire sizes available, all sharing a fixed total circumference
(for example: 205/60-R15, 225/50-R16, 245/40-R17)
- Select the appropriate rim for that size, basing on an automatically limited selection. Different rims would have different, unmodifiable characteristics (width, offset).
- [optional] Bigger rims will allow to fit bigger brakes

To be honest, I really hope they allowed me to adjust the rim size.

Yes!! This is absolutely essential!

In GT4 you had so many different and awesome wheels to choose from but they always defaulted to the size of the cars original rims so in many cases they looked stupid!

Please PD please :nervous:

Race tires in most cases made the wheels bigger in GT4, but it was a stupid, stupid system.

but not too big rims. I want low offset too.

From stock and only having it dropped...

... but a little bit smaller rims like these^.

edit: or like my signature... (from left wheel, to right wheel)

As long as it's done realistically, I'm completely in favour of people being free to put those kinds of wheels on their car, so I can chortle heartily at bottoming out suspension, smashed sumps, shredded tyres, bodywork ripped to pieces, and generally terrible lulzy handling :D

On a serious note, I'm expecting something big to be revealed about customisation at TGS.

Of course it was

Are you agreeing or being sarcastic?

If it's the latter, what's not stupid about fitting new alloys and them staying the same size, in some instances actually getting smaller?

To be honest I really hope I can make my cars look like that 240. If there was variable offsets it could get pretty bad, but on every car that I drift I lower it as much as possible, regardless of lack of suspension travel
