Gran Turismo 6 Graphics Downgraded From Gran Turismo 5

The game feels more alive graphically than gt5 in my opinion. The only issues I've seen so far is the fact that the courses seems a bit downgraded and rain effects look bland in cockpit view.

I feel like in GT6 the environment is darker or less vivid or something. The premium cars don't look quite as good, inside and out. I think there's less color and shadows now.

I've played 5 or 6 hours of gt6and come to the conclusion that generally the graphics are a lot worse in gt6. The aliasing is dreadful and the framerate is often bad. Cars look worse too.
The framerates occasionally drop.

Small price to pay for the improvement IMO.

It is running at a higher res than GT5.

The lighting model is more complex.

The smoke is more complex.

I wouldn't say the aliasing is dreadful at all. They offloaded the AA to the cell CPU, yes, but the overall effect is much better with the res increase.
You need to play them back to back I think.

Overall it looks better. But they did cut back on shadow quality. Gt6 never kills the immersion. GT5 did with its awful shadows and pixilated smoke, while GT6 suffers from a frame dip with smoke now. All premium cockpits have way better textures too.

I played GT5 the night before I got GT6 and it looked like turd on my screen. I was playing at my computer desk through a 1080p 24" gaming monitor, so I'm sitting pretty close to it. GT5 looks really blurry and lacking in detail when up close, even though it looks fantastic when I have it on the TV downstairs sitting on the sofa a decent distance away.

GT6 though looks a lot more crisp up close, It was an instantly noticeable difference when I fired it up through my PC monitor, and I'm very thankful for the increase in resolution, GT5 may have looked great for you sitting on your sofa but up close GT6 is a lot cleaner because of the changes. The shadow quality is a small price to pay.

Not to mention the amazing sky domes, stars and the higher quality lighting aswell as the beautifully recreated new additions. The real leap will come in GT7 on the PS4 when the compromises no longer have to be made (atleast to an extent).

Hey they will get it to 60FPS. Remember GT5 at start wasnt near at all 60fps.
Dont worry they will fix it...

I have noticed this in quite a few other pics posted recently. Especially all the comparison pics of the standards from GT5 to GT6. While the standard cars themselves have been graphically improved, it seems some of the lighting, reflections, or scenery settings have been downgraded. Probably all depends on the angle of the pics.

I was disappointed to see that they gimped the quality of the rain effect. It wasn't perfect in GT5, but I liked where they were going with it. Hopefully they return to a similar method for GT7, but improve it with the more powerful hardware.

Indeed. The rain FX on the windshield were really nice, although, some tracks, you were almost snowblind ( as it were ) when the rain was pummelling the windscreen. Possibly realistic, i wouldn;t know - i've never driven that fast, but difficult to competitively race during a downpour. But, it looked NICE.

GT6 rain doesn't travel up the windscreen or run back down again during heavy breaking etc... which was a lovely little touch. Are there any videos of snow tracks, from in car view ? I can't access those races yet. Is snow any better in this game ?

-The poor anti-aliasing mixed with the HDR creating a "blurry effect" at the distance. Tracks with less populated details as Willow Springs in where you don´t need to use too much anti-aliasing and such looks beautiful though. Less objects, less post processing to add.

The game looks below 60FPS in cockpit view but still quite fluid, once outside the car it looks a little bit more fluid. Frame rates are not consistent yet nothing that disturbs me at least as happened with GT Academy...to me it was unplayable with those frame drops at Silverstone with one car.

Are you sure the distance blur isn't just the 'out of focus' filter they apply? Looks like it to me.

I think the cockpit view must be pretty close to 60fps most of the time. It isn't too far off GT5 in that regard.

I will be happy when GT moves over to the next generation hardware. Although the PS3 is amazingly powerful, they messed up a bit in that the CPU was an absolute monster whereas the GPU was relatively puney. To the point where even stuff like heat haze effects that were possible on the PS2, were not on the PS3.

PD have effectively tried to address this imbalance in GT6 in moving a lot of the GFX stuff over to the CPU.

I don't know if it is actually worse or improved? A complaint often made against GT5's photo-realistic graphics (please don't start with 'standard cars') was that it was too sterile. Now that it looks more organic nobody is happy.
I like it, don't have any real gripes.

Cockpit view looks more detailed and I think the gauges are sharper. The lighting effects I think are nicer and smoke/dust effect don't have the jagged edges anymore. Shadow in cockpit still looks weird sometimes, and some track seems to suffer from some weird issue. I see stuff popping pretty often on Brands Hatch, and in replay you can see some weird graphical glitches...

Could be, not sure though since PD does things in ways that no other developer does. I think blur should work in close distances and in motion, the "out of focus" effect (not sure if call it "blur") could be more noticeable in the whole picture, like happens while on replays (mostly on static cameras)...if they put this while playing it sure is way too low or minimized...The "blurriness" is mostly caused by the "jaggies" of the anti-aliasing.

Check Willow Springs, you can clearly see almost the entire distance...there is an out of focus effect but way too far in the distance. (mostly creating some haze atmosphere coming from the desert)

But not saying that you aren´t correct at all..it may have a little of blur, but that also affects performance. That´s why I doubt.

The ONLY thing that has consistently bothered me with GT6 is the weather stripping on the cars....especially around the top and bottom of the front and rear windows. Since GT5, my expectations of graphics are very high now and little imperfections like that drive me mad. Everything else seems to be either on par with GT5 or better. In all, 6 defiantly looks more lively. AA is 6 isn't quite as aggressive but it is still reasonable.

All this article does is make me hopeful for GT7 release.. PD can take the best learned techniques from GT5 and GT6 and make a much better game on PS4!

New Forza looks great on Xbox 1, so I hope Ps4 can deliver a similar experience with GT7.

well, its supposed to help give a sense of speed and motion when...y'know...the game is actually IN MOTION. Obviously it won't look very good in a static screenshot.

I haven't seen any blurring like that in GT6 while actually driving. IN the replays absolutely...
I know, what i meant was its pointless comparing a static screenshot from replays because motion blur only works in motion. Makes it seem like the guys who did the comparison just wanted GT6 to look seemingly worse than GT5.

Without talking technicals, GT6 looks significantly better while racing for me than GT5 did. In the end this is what matters for me. Non-expensive 1080P TV used on HDMI. Looks better than I ever thought the PS3 could.
